Yay...Mr Greenie is back in da house  !

Boy, Trix gave me quite a scare this morning...her first BG reading was 245!!! Long story short...it turned out to be a meter issue, but until I figured that out, this bean just about had a heart attack! Last night, I had dropped the meter, and when I did that, the date and time info blanked out. I reset it it, and went about my business. When I went to test Trix this morning, I didn't notice that the first strip had an error on it until after I sucked up the blood. Ugh. Go get another strip, suck up more blood but it doesn't quite fill all the way...maybe 85%. But, I get a number instead of an error: 245  . I was crushed - but, at this point, I noticed that the date and time were wiped out again. Since everyone was very antsy I gave them breakfast. While they were eating, I changed the battery in the meter, set the date and time, and as soon as Trix was done - too soon for fuds to have an affect on her numbers - I tested again: 176. Phew. Just for good measure, I tested one more time: 162. Bigger phew. So I averaged those to for today's official AMBG. As much as I would like THOSE numbers to be lower, they are far, far better than the 245 I initially got. I thought for sure we were heading back to Juiceville. Instead, she's just going to keep me guessing and scratching my head by sometimes implying maybe we need juice...but no, wait, Ms P says "No juice needed here!!!"

Post-breffis computer time snuggles have commenced. What a sweet girl.

And fortunately the gelcap went down this morning on the second try. Last evening, she was prepped for another battle....she had that tension, but it also went down quickly then, too. Fortunately the difficult events like yesterday morning are few and far betwee.

@Ella - I have thought about using a pill popper, but I'm nervous about it...I feel like I won't have control over the pill, and I'm kind of afraid I'll hurt Trix somehow since my hands won't be at her face...by pilling with my hand, I can "feel" what's happening. I don't know if that makes sense, but that's why I've been iffy about using a popper. I'm lucky...she IS pretty good about it in general, but sometimes there are just "those kind of days" ....

My Dad seemed to be feeling perfectly fine last night, with yesterday being his first full day after his initial chemo treatment. So far, no sign of side effects, but I also know it is very, very early in the game. He still has the "chemo to go" pump; that gets disconnected this afternoon and then he is free for a couple weeks. I was also thrilled that my Mom had made him one of the high-caloried protein-packed smoothie recipes I printed out for her. He hadn't tried yet as one of his potential side effects is an extreme sensitivity to cold (including food), so they were waiting for it to get closer to room temperature (the doc said to not even test the cold sensitivity...if/when one has that side effect, it is extremely painful to consume cold food, so it's not worth testing the waters), but hopefully he liked it...smoothies would be a good source of healthy calories for him. Since you all know what a helicopter I am, it is extremely difficult for me to not be in the same house as him right now! But, fortunately they do live just around the corner so I can pop in, and with modern technology I can call them any time I feel a need to hover "wireless-ly" !

Another long workday ahead....sending prayers out to my amazing LL family. Have a great day, everyone!

Wow. I bet that got your blood pumping this morning. Much better numbers after the meter was fixed. Phew. Look at that +3! Woohoo! Mrs. P is in the house and in charge.

Glad the gelcap was a little easier today. I hate it when they don't. I just pill by hand as well. I think it would scare Tarragon more if I had a pill popper.

Great news on your dad. It is still early, but sounds like it went ok. Good for your mom on the smoothing. Those are such a good way to get really good nutrients down.

have a great day Amy!!

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

wow on the meter issue. One has to love it when that happens. I can remember a few times.... so so glad that you can ignore that 245. ;-) I LOVE that +3. Mr P is hard a work. Well done Miss Trixie.

I am glad that your dad is feeling well, and so far tolerating treatments. That is awesome. I hope that the smoothie went well, sounds like an awesome idea.

I've always pilled by hand too. I had a pill popper once, and not too sure if it was my technique (most likely) or the cat, in this case Mannie, but it did not go to well. I used to hide meds in food too, until he figured that one out. He was so good at cheeking his meds and then spitting them out.  The gelcaps seem like the way to go, and I am glad that it in all accounts is going fairly well.

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well.

Gads, what a heart stopper with the mid yellow this AM. I've had a couple of those "gasp" numbers, but they were legit. Just Polly's way of saying, "don't take nuttin' for granted."

Pill popper? Finger? Depends on the cat and the the person pilling. I have cats at work that get the poppers; I have cats at work that get the fingers. Whatever works best.

Ohhhhh. The pump. I hated the pump. Just the nuisance of it. (and one of my cats thought the tube was a great toy!) Cold sensitivity. Ah yes. I'd warm my juice in the microwave! First bite pain. Ah yes. But I learned if I took a second, third bite quickly the jaw stab went away. I even wore knit gloves to work because touching metal sent shivers. I had some face freeze moments and a problem with my eyes (like looking through a fun house mirror). Doctor reduced the oxy to 80% and all went well from there. I also lost feeling in the ends of my fingers. Can't even count the times I dropped my keys!

But it was all very doable. Well, I had a lot of help from Prilosec! Heartburn was the most unpleasant side effect.

Continued light to your dad.

Woohoo, Ms. P! Are we glad to see you!!!   Mega vines for your parents and you. (((Amy)))

All's well that ends well!! thanks for showing up.

I'm sending vines to your dad that he doesn't have any side effects and his juice does its job.

Have a great day, Amy.

and yet, trixie almost always reliably comes down with the +3, usually into green. what a relief.

glad to hear your dad's managing ok for the moment. gotta take things one day at a time. btw, i sent you an email - not sure if you'll get it at work.

Oh wow on the wacky numbers from dropping the meter. I got a pink number out of the blue with Furball one day after I had dropped the meter. I think the battery was loose. I took the battery out and put it back in and the next number was more in line with where she had been. It can definitely freak you out.

I'm glad your dad is doing okay right now. I hope he liked the smoothie. Sending more prayers.

Glad to hear that it was a meter malfunction and not a crazy cat! Well...she's still a little crazy, but in a good way! ;-) Sending prayers and keeping my fingers crossed for no-side-effects for your dad and lots of well-wishes for both of your parents and a lot of anxiety-free days for the helicopter daughter! :-D Hope you survived another busy day, Amy!!! Sleep well. TGIF! (almost :-D )

I'm glad to hear that your dad is doing well after his first chemo. I hope the side effect are minimal.

Oi! on the meterGood girl Trixie, coming down so nicely for mamabean. Maybe she was trying to take your mind off your dad. ;-)

Very nice recovery this morning, Trix! I bet that did freak you out...245!

Sending many prayers for you dad as he receives his treatment. He has such a wonderful, supportive family.

I'm guessing you were wide awake after you saw that number! I'm glad it was just a malfunction. It's so cool the way Trixie's pancreas just picks up the ball and runs with it! Love seeing Mr. Greenie on her condos!

I'm glad your dad is tolerating the chemo well so far. I have no personal experience with it, but from what I've read, it often takes a while for the side effects to appear, so sending vines to hold them at bay!

Continued prayers for your DF and family, and hugs to my fellow helicopter!
