Good Friday, Everyone,

First of all I want to thank all of you for your help and support yesterday. Special thanks to Linda, Lisa and Gayle for their input regarding interpretation of the T4 test.
Stu had a pretty good night. He ate all his food in his automat and this morning had a good breakfast (with Fortiflora sprinkled on), took his Methimazole 2.5mg in a Pill Pocket (it was too big for the butter and after licking the butter he left the pill). Lots of pee in the litterbox, but that's all so far. Mr. Cat is a bit subdued today--not surprising after yesterday! His bg had a big drop after the AMPS bounce (300 to 161), so I gave him a little 12% along with his 3rd breakfast installment to slow him down. He also took the hated Clavamox with Breakfast #3. Right now he's outside with DH, who is getting our trash and recyclables ready to take to the landfill. But he's mainly lounging around outside, not doing his normal chipmunk patrol. I sure hope he has a better day today (and I hope I do too!). I passed up a bike ride with friends this morning because I wouldn't have been able to get ready in time. So as compensation I get to go to the dump!!! Plattsburgh this afternoon, Mr. Cat willing!

Have a good day, everyone,

Ella & Stu

p.s. all Ps now in place, including playing in the garden.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

Stu sure likes those massive drops.
Hope the two of you have a wonderful day today

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

I don't know - I heard rumors that Stu was trying to find his mask and snorkel (or was that rumors that you really didn't want to go to the dump?) Have a great day no matter what you do.
Hey, If Stu catches a chippie - do you let him eat it or take it away?? Just curious cause with my semiferals that come inside - I like to try to remove the body if they leave it - worries me about the worms etc.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

Good Morning Ella and Stu! WOW- and quite the drop at +2. Stu - you got plans today, huh? What fun on your agenda! the dump - oh goodie. Sorry you had to pass on the bike ride - seems I've had to pass on alot this week too. Disappointing - but we've always got tomorrow, and next week and and and. Have a good day - no matter what you end up doing.

Hey Stu! you pink this morning? I was too, but more pink than you. My bean sighed alot today - why are they always doing that, huh? Hey - Moonie is all alone today - her bean is off somewhere. maybe we could go visit or somethin'... You in? ~~ Mannie

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

Morning Ella....I just wanted to mention that the fortiflora or yogurt should be given at a different time..hours after the ABs...I used to do the ABs at breffis and then the noon time snack would have the probiotics....and for good measure, i would ontinue with the Fortiflora days after the ABs were finished....

Carolyn & Latte told me to use the food syringe with baby food mixed with water. As long as you have the syringe, the feeding will be better if you ever need it....I have to used the syringe with Shadow when he goes very low. He doesn't' like to eat at those times and I just squirt gravy into his mouth with the syringe. What a relief to know that this is possible at those times...as Ele said yesterday, it is so great to have that syringe handy! If he doesn't eat a meal, or vomits and doesn't want to eat after, then using the syringe with baby food or even some gravy will keep him nourished with something in his stomach.

Wonder if you will get to Plattsburgh today...Stu is doing his famous range finding act...he loves the lower range that is... His drops are infamous! But it's good that he doesn't like to linger in the ugly pinks for too long...that's the good news...the bad news is that you are constantly on your toes checking him!
I hope you have a good day today Ella....you are doing such a great job with all these new things on your plate...
Sending hugs to you... :YMHUG:

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

stu, you need to take it easy on these drops ok?? Now you are in a good number range, a little lower would be ok, but you don't have to be in a rush to get there!

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

G' Morning, Ella. Hope you get to Plattsburgh today. Sending hugs and good thoughts , for a lovely day.
Stu, look what you did, sent your mama to the dump, instead of bike riding with pals. Now you take it nice and slow today. Well, slowER. :-D

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

hi Ella. just catching up, and i have some questions.

Stu was put under anesthesia and had a dental without fasting?? Did the vet know he had breakfast that morning? Do you know what anesthesia they used during the dental cleaning? How long was he under for? Did the vet give him any IV fluids before, during and after the procedure?

His blood pressure in the front legs was high (185/130), but fine in the back legs (70/50).
i've never seen this before. are you sure these aren't BP readings before, and during or after anesthesia?

USG (fixed range) = 1.011 (had been 1.020; reference range is ??)
was the USG taken before or after SQ fluids? did Dr Peterson mention if he has a cut-off for USG for I-131 treatment? what was his USG at the prior visit?

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

Good Morning, Ella. I'm glad that Stu is feeling better and playing now. He sure does like to dive, but I'm hoping he'll surf a little today and give you a break. I hope you have a good day, even if you have to go to the dump.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161

Glad to hear Stu is out supervising loading up for the dump. It's a big job - next to protecting his turf from chippers.

Have a grand time on your outing and hope Stu levels off.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161, +4.25 74

Glad to hear that Stu is perking up this morning. Back in green, far enough mister. Give mom a break.

Stu, you're back in green too! Let's surf and see if Moonie wants to go , she's alone today. We can pick up Mannie and have a rainbow board day. -- Tess

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238

Hi Everyone,
I'm back from the dump and back from Plattsburgh. Stu has chosen to have a rebound day. But that may be my fault since I fed the 161 at +2.25 with a little 12% and also fed the 74 at +4 with a little 12%. After that it was up the ladder all afternoon. At +10 Stu was 238 and I expect PMPS to be back in pink.
Stu really enjoyed being outdoors this afternoon (it was a beautiful day here). He' chased the moths and looked for the chipmunk. He has never caught one (they are too fast and he isn't a very good hunter: he rushes at them meowing the whole time!). I hope he joined Mannie, Moonie and Tess in the surf this afternoon. DH didn't know! This evening I want to visit condos and study the websites that describe how to give SQ fluids. Tomorrow morning we go to the vet for our fluids "lesson". I hope to hear that the vet got all the test results back and has faxed them to Hypurrcat. Stay tuned!
Everyone have a good start to the weekend.

Ella & Stu

Hey there Stu. I hope my bean takes me outside when she gets home. I want to chew some grass and look at bugs too. I think I will sing to her until I get my way. It works!

Thinking about you today Ella and hope Stu results from Antech come back soon they should be turnaround time for what you had done on him is usually no more then 72 hours. We use antech as well if the Dr is questioning my machines we use Idexx machines in my lab at work. I could on go and on about labwork but I try to stay without a opinion most of time since I am not a Dr but after running labwork for almost 16 yrs you do get a bit of experience under the belt. I have seen many T4 values in his range come down in time the problem being you are watching kidney values at the time but starting squids should really help that and Ella its really easy to do have a tech show you or the vet it takes a bit of practice honestly I do not like doing it myself and I am trained( just because I do not do it all the time) but once you learn there is nothing to it you may need a extra pair of hands though depending on the cat. Lets us know the next update Do Lou sends his regards to Stu ((((((HUGS))))))

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +2.25 161, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238

((((((((((Ella)))))))))), after the first time or two it will be just like giving insulin. Piece of cake! ;-) I found getting Cleo into a routine helped, just like w/ bg testing, always reward and praise afterward of course. Warming the bag helps too, it always gets cold here at night. Dh helped when we started, but soon that wasn't necessary. If you can opt for the smaller needles, takes a little longer, but less discomfort. Don't worry, he will feel so much better when you start, they know when things are good for them.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

No advice on fluids here, but I know you will get a ton of great advice on how to give them ...

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

thanks, guys! We had a good early evening even though Stu is back in pink (I predicted it!). He was eager to eat his Wellness chicken for dinner. I don't think he'll be so eager to take the Clavamox in a half hour, however! At the Petsmart in Plattsburgh I found the allergy Pill Pockets (thanks for the tip, Laurie). We'll try one out tomorrow morning.
I appreciate the thumbs-up about the fluid giving, Lisa and Ann. Tomorrow morning, 9:30 A.M. Eastern time. Of course, Stu has already had the experience; it's just his beans who have to learn! Off now to read about it. Everyone have a good evening.

Ella & Stu

p.s. No word yet about the rest of the test results. I expect I'll get them tomorrow, and if they came back today, they may have been faxed to Hypurrcat. I'll be sure to find out.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

Ella, it makes my heart happy when you say that Stu eats so well.
I have every faith that you will ace the sub q test, and it'll be just another one of your daily routines, that make your baby feel good.

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

Thinking of you guys tonight...Raja wants Stu to know that she had Wellness chicken too....
Hope you have a good night Ella!

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

Ella...I just read about the neat stuff you got on your shopping trip...
You found the allergy pill pockets at your Petsmart? You are SO lucky...mine didn't have them!! grr_red
And that metal littler scoop that is so efficient? You are SO lucky AGAIN!
You know Ella...you must be a barrel of laughs at a cocktail party...

I have recently been thinking about how my conversational topics are severely limited....
If it is not a friend like yourself on the forum, I have nothing to talk about. I mean, if they don't care about the lack of good quality canned cat food on the market, or the unbelievable time I had syringing gravy into Shadow's mouth at 1 am the other night....or the neat kitty cubes I bought...well, I guess it will be a very short conversation!
My DH has at least accepted the fact that I am totally absorbed. He even laughs when I tell him it's a full moon cause he knows we are having a party here. Oh, and he thinks that "Stu" is a great name for a kitty BTW. But, not to worry Ella...I am jealous of your metal littler scoop...I really AM!
:o Oh, wait a minute, I use the Tidy Breeze system...no more litter to scoop...
Neverkind!
Well, I still think it's neat...and if you like it...then it must be good. Enjoy it Ella...
(I was going to say that you deserve nice things...but that sounded so silly....but true) :YMHUG:

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

WCF, thanks for the videos!! They make it look simple!
Pat, you're a stitch! And it's true: our friends know they are going to hear about Stu when we see them! By the way, we didn't name Stu. He came from the ASPCA with that name and we kept it so as not to confuse him (we adopted him at age 4, right after 911 so as to make room at the shelter). He is now almost 13. He had been "returned" to the shelter twice; as we left with him one of the shelter volunteers said: "you will give him a chance, won't you?" He is such a terrific cat!!!

See you tomorrow, everyone

Ella & Stu

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

What a great story Ella! I'm glad he was returned twice...because that way, he got YOU!
Isn't it strange how things work out? It must be Fate cause I can't imagine anyone returning him, can you?
He is so lucky to have found you Ella!

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

Shelter cats - I love great endings. Mannie was a shelter cat too. I can't imagine him being unwanted - he too is a great cat.

And I so agree on the repertoire of my conversational topics... It's always Mannie, and sometimes my hikes - HAHA - most people don't care   I always lose them when I start talking SS's and curves and dives and bounces. And cat food? HAHA again - it's always: "dry is good enough". silly misguided folks...

And I agree: Pat you are the best!

have a great night Ella - Mannie has taken off looking for Stu - something about surfin and grillin again. What a life!

Re: 8/27 Stu AMPS 300, +4.25 74, +5.75 112, +10 238, PMPS 306

You'll be a pro at giving fluids in no time Ella. It's really not hard at all. Even my crazy girl Emma lets me do it, and I use the larger needles so it gets over quicker. She doesn't flinch at all anymore when I stick it in.

All of my girls are shelter babies. Emma was just a kitten, so that doesn't really count, but the other two were older. Charlotte was a couple of days away from being pts, because she wasn't little and cute anymore. And poor Dory was just dumped on the side of the road somewhere and someone brought her in to the shelter. I'm grateful someone else gave them up so they could come live with me!

My drooler, Rumpy, was also returned twice to the shelter before I took him. He's was a very shy Chihuahua, and I can only assume people were disappointed he wasn't sitting on their laps immediately. No one gave him a chance. I've had him for a year now, and he's a totally different dog than when I got him. I'm so glad we found each other!
