? 8/27 need advice on a low reading

I just tested my ex-husband's cat who is quite overweight. I used my human meter which is a ReliOn confirm, and got a reading of 46. Now this cat has not been diagnosed as diabetic, he's an overweight civvie. On my advice because I have a diabetic cat, he has stopped all dry for 3 days now after weaning them down for the past week or so. My question is is this a pretty low reading is it normal or what?

That is a good reading.

Edit: Very rarely can a non-diabetic cat go hypo, and then there are underlying illness. You do not need to carb the cat.

I have a civvie that routinely tests in the 30's

As long as there's no added insulin, there's no danger of a hypo (unless there's another underlying condition)

Absolutely!! It's always better to feed a species appropriate diet, and in cats, that's low carb, high protein with plenty of water!!

Since obesity is a risk factor for diabetes, getting the cat on a good low carb diet now may prevent him from ever developing it
