Re: 8/26 Tiberious PMPS 425

I'm having some serious issues/concerns. Any and all advice would be welcomed-

So, Tiberious hasn't been getting up at all to eat/drink since before his vet visit on Wens. If I bring his food/water and put it right under him, then he will eat/drink- but he is not getting up now barely at all. (this was prior to the Butorphanol -pain med- that was started on Wens night). The last time he got up was late last night, to wonder away-- which seemed odd- so I put him in the LB and he pooped. Today, a new development-- he has not gotten up to pee, (which he was getting up to do as of yesterday) instead he has peed twice in his kitty bed. This is completely out of character as he NEVER/EVER gone outside the litter box. I don't know if this peeing issue (which just started today) is the pain med making him to weak to get to the LB or if it has something to do with him being so sick. I have since moved the LB closer to his location making it as easy as I can for him, outside of me placing him in it myself. The issue of him not getting up to eat or drink was happening before the new pain med was given. I don't really know what else to do. I don't want to stop the pain med (Butorphanol) as I know it's helping his pain substantially. I'm watching him as much as possible, but as we all know I cannot watch him 24/7. Help?? Any ideas/suggestions/Advice... Thanks for listening

Susan: he is eating and drinking plenty, right? Have you tested him for ketones just to be sure?

I'm sorry but I have no clue......I would think it could possibly be the meds except you said he started it before the meds. Did you tell the vet?

I really don't know what could be wrong, but there definitely IS something wrong. Cats are very fastidious animals. They won't willingly pee where they sleep, and then stay in it. I'm concerned, but I just don't know what it could be. I would definitely call your vet and ask his opinion. Good luck. You've already had so much to deal with. I will certainly keep you, your family, and sweet Tiberious in my prayers!!!

Please call your vet. The bupe is an opiate. He may be getting too much and is so drugged that he's peeing in his sleep. However, that he is not getting up to eat or drink on his own is of concern. Checking for ketones is important -- especially with numbers this high. The numbers may reflect new dose wonkiness but I'm concerned.

I checked Ketones on Wens. It was negative. I haven't been able to get his pee to check again. I will be calling the vet in the morning, I was just seeing what the MB thought.

I think it's a good idea to contact the vet. I would also check his ketones every day if you can....I know this is difficult if he is peeing in his bed.

One thought I just had.....I thought I read somewhere that some of the folks said when their kitties are high, they pee in their sleep or in their beds. I wonder if the dosecrease will help bring his numbers down and help that? I'd keep your advice needed" up in case someone else has some experience.

Yes, he's eating 1-1/2 to 2 cans of FF maybe a little more a day (AM and Pm total). His appetite seems ok. As far as water, I have it right next to his bed and he normally will get up to drink-( until recently). I've been putting it directly in front of him on and off throughout the day/night to see if we wants to drink. I also put extra water in his food.

Thanks so very much Patty

susan, is it possible to call your vet tonight? some vets don't seem to mind calls after hours. mine doesn't. i'm concerned something is really wrong here. besides the symptoms he's been experiencing and the behaviors you've described, his number are very high and unexplainable (new dose wonkiness usually shows up on the second or third day of a dose increase). something is wrong. i'm not sure this should wait til morning.

if you could at least talk to your vet, he might be able to give you an idea if tiberious should be seen tonight or if he thinks it can wait til morning...
