Yesterday's condo

AMPS 131, +3=106, +7(Renavast given @ +3.25)=77, +10=103
PMPS 101, +3=121, +5=119(Renavast given @ +3), +9=80

20cc Core 5% just after AMPS, +0.75, +3.25 (with Renavast), +4, 5cc snack @ +9.
20cc Core 5% just after PMPS, +1, +3 (with Renavast), +3.75, 5cc snack @ +9

Yesterday's values:
AMPS 88, +3=87,+6.25=108 (after Renavast at +3), +9=110
PMPS 118, +3=118, +6=82, +9=78

AMPS is a little higher this AM, but he's acting fine. I'm really surprised at how carb sensitive he is. If his numbers stay consistent with yesterday's values, would it be ok to stay at the 0.10 unit? Is there a method to draw up between a 0.1 and 0.25 consistently if I should need to bump it back up since he's on the Renavast? I just want to do right by my little guy.

Re: 8/26 Shadow B AMPS 131, +3=106

Whew! Sure am glad you take good notes on your spreadsheet!

I was looking and saw those "R's" and was thinking "What's she doing using R with such fabulous numbers!!" :o

The only way I know of getting a dose between .1 and .25 would be to try counting drops. You draw up 1 unit (using something other than insulin that you can see well, like colored water, tea, coffee) and slowly twist the plunger until you produce a drop at the end of the needle.

Try to get all the drops the same size and then you count how many drops you can consistently get from 1 unit. Once you know that, it's a matter of math to try to "twist" the right number of drops out so you just leave a dose in between .1 and .25

Example...you get 12 drops from 1unit...that's 3 drops per .25, so if you were to pull up 1 unit and "waste" 10, that would leave you with a 2 drop dose (a dose between 1 drop and 3 drops)...although if you were using insulin, you'd probably want to pull up .5 so you wouldn't "waste" as much each shot

Hope that made some sense! It takes some practice though!

Shadow's really looking good :-D

Re: 8/26 Shadow B AMPS 131, +3=106

Oh no! What does "R" usually stand for? I must have missed that memo! LOL

I may have to resort to the drop counting method. I'd like to get tighter control for his sake, but I'm a bit torn in that I'm a lot more comfortable with getting a little extra sleep with the nice stable numbers he seems to be getting recently. Maybe I'll try that over the weekend. Overall, I'm really happy with how well he's responding to everything. And as always, I'm eternally grateful for all of the support we receive here. Thank you all!

Re: 8/26 Shadow B AMPS 131, +3=106

"R" is a type of short acting insulin that some people use when their kitties have really high numbers. It can help bring them down and stop a big bounce if done correctly. Good luck if you try counting the drops. Shadow is looking good today.

Re: 8/26 Shadow B AMPS 131, +3=106

"R" is a fast acting insulin that is sometime used for cats in DKA or for cats that just won't respond to the longer acting insulins like Lantus.

By giving a drop or two (and that's usually all it takes) for those cats that are stubbornly high, it can bring their BG down enough for the Lantus to really be able to "grab hold" and do it's thing.

For cats in DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis), they're almost always already at the vet and being monitored very carefully with glucose drips on hand if necessary

It's a very useful tool in the toolbelt, but it's also a very dangerous one if you're not very careful with it.

Re: 8/26 Shadow B AMPS 131, +3=106

Gah! No wonder you might be a little freaked by that. Sorry. I will change that. Thanks for letting me know.

Re: 8/26 Shadow B+7(Renavast at +3.25)=77, +10=103

No need to apologize!

With Shadow getting such great numbers, there's no way anybody would have ever discussed using R with you so you couldn't know

Good luck with whatever you decide to do..whether it's just hold where you're at or try counting drops!

Re: 8/26 Shadow B+10=103 PMPS 101, +3=121

For the first night in nearly two months, I'm going to try to go to bed before midnight! I'm skipping the +6 and going straight for his +9 at snack time. Wish me luck! :-D
