Good Morning, Neighbors in Lantus Land!

Yesterday's Condo:

Today's News:

AMPS: 343 confused_cat
+2.5: 126 :o
+3.75: 85
+5: 117
+7: 210
+11.5: 312

PMPS: 298 (got this test in right before her shot but right after Part 1 of her PM meal)
+1: 366
+2: 385
+3.5: 348
+4.5: 361

Wishing all our kitty and bean neighbors a healing day with lots of hugs and skritches.

Missed opportunity last night? We saw a fairly safe number and a gradual slide happening in Clare's BG at +4 (Clare's nadir is usually at about +5 or 5.5) so we gave her a snack, put food in her timed feeder and went to bed for a regular night's sleep. Coral was late coming in for her supper. It was a beautiful night so I guess she wants to hold on to summer, too!

All's well this morning except we've got a stinky pinky bounce. Hopefully it won't last too long!

Have a good day, Everyone!

Hi guys .. clare, what the heck are you doing way up there? Time to head to the lagoon, lots of action going on there today! Have a great day guys!

Devon,

She definitely heard you this time. Yikes, what a drop -- I think she really likes the lagoon!

Re: 8/26 Clare AMPS 343;+2.5-126

that's a bounce-clearing drop! the good news is that was a very short bounce - less than a day and she's on her way back into normal numbers already. the bad news is that drop was likely fast enough to set off another bounce. doggoneit!

hopefully she's going to settle down before long. when she gets to green, a couple of teaspoons of low carb might help her surf and stay there.

Re: 8/26 Clare AMPS 343;+2.5-126;+3.75-85;+5-117

Okay, I guess we're in for another ride. Hopefully not too bouncy.

A question:
If we'd stayed up later last night instead of going to bed at +4.5, would there have been something we could do to keep her from bouncing so high this morning?

Thanks,

Georgette

There's the bounce. We're hoping she'll clear it in the PM cycle. Hang in there, Clare!

Settle down Clare - you look much prettier in green.

I would have done the same as you last night. She had only dropped a few points over two hours. Sometimes kitties delay the worst of their bounce or two, so she could have been bouncing this morning based on yesterday's green. What's more worrisome is the over two hundred point drop first thing this morning cause that'll likely cause another bounce. ohmygod_smile Since Clare sometimes really likes to dive first thing in a cycle, you might want to split her meal into a PS, +1 and +2 meals to see if you can ease her down more gently.

Re: 8/26 Clare AMPS 343;+2.5-126;+3.75-85;+5-117;+7-210

i agree with wendy - i think this morning's high was from yesterday's green day cycle. look how she went up from the mid-day greens to yellow at pmps. I sincerely doubt she got low last night - at pm+4 she was still nearly 200 - i think she was working her way up the mountain from yesterday's am+8 or 9 (the 131ish) until this morning's peak at amps 343.

cats have different styles of bouncing. some go straight up immediately, some take a cycle or even 2 or 4 to work their way up to the peak of the bounce. what i look for are cycles when they look "normal", ie, they go down from the preshot to (in Clare's case right now), a green nadir and then back up to the next preshot. When that normal curve is missing, then i start looking why. Last night wasn't a normal curve, and when you look backwards - there it is - the nice green nadir of the day cycle.

Today, other than jumping off the cliff from the amps, she was back in a normal curve, a normal-for-her-nadir, and then at +7 - here it comes again. A big jump upwards. You look backwards and you see the 220 point drop in a couple of hours first thing this morning and that's the culprit for this bounce.

There's also "big insulin poop out" or BIPO. Sometimes when the kitties skyrocket at the end of a cycle, it can also be from lack of duration. It happens occasionally but if it happens a lot, it's possible the dose needs to be increased. It looks like her cycle today but also, as Wendy and Julie said, a fast drop can trigger a serious bounce.

Re: 8/26 Clare AMPS 343;+3.75-85;+5-117;+7-210;+11.5-312

Wendy, Julie, and Marje (what a team!) -- thanks for helping me to understand this. I guess we'll know tonight if Clare can get through this bounce more quickly than the last time. I didn't realize that kitties can keep bouncing up and down before they settle into a normal cycle.

we're trying splitting up the meals tonight. Also, we won't mind increasing the dose if it will help her to settle down from these bounces. When she gets into the pinks, we can tell that she's just racing: she gets crabby with her sister (although that's not so unusual ;-) ) and meows anxiously for food or a walk (her two biggies) and I'm sure that it can't be too good for her internally.

As always, I'm grateful for all of your experience and willingness to help us through these different situations. It sure is complex and I'm really learning what you mean by ECID!

Clare's pattern today, so far, is a lot like her pattern on 8/24.

Hopefully she won't be bouncing all night. Looking for an active cycle, Clarie!
