Unfortunately Luka, my parakeet, had passed over the weekend from cancer. I miss her so much, and it still feels so unreal to me that she's gone...I keep looking over at her cage, expecting her to be there and scolding me for something or another. Be it because it's too hot, too cold, or a toy of hers is off by half an inch. And her sweet chirps, and how she kept playing with her hanging bell toy and would stop the moment someone besides me saw what she was doing.

Understandably, I haven't been too great for testing Tip over the weekend either. I at least managed to get +6's and preshots. I also had to take Tip in to the vet today because we were worried about the spot on her nose as it was starting to look like a mole. Thankfully it turned out to just be a scab from a tussle with Christmas. The vet managed to clean it right off, she does have a little scar on her nose now though.

Cindy ~

So sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved parakeet. It is never easy losing a pet. Sending you many hugs and know that Luka is now free of pain, thought I know your heart must be breaking.

Hi Cindy - so sorry to hear about the loss of Luka. :YMHUG: Parakeets can have such amazing personalities.

It looks like Tip got another 47. That's two below 50's on this dose so she's almost ready for a reduction. I'm glad she's fine and the spot was only a scab.

(((Cindy))))

I am so very sorry to hear Luka has crossed. Unless one has ever been around parakeets, they don't know how much company they are.

Fly free, sweet Luka.

I'm glad Tip's nose is ok.

Thank you all so much. I've been cycling through fits of crying and just being so tired. I'm sure she's in a better place. I'm so thankful I could be there for her in her final moments at the emergency vet as we desperately tried to help her. It was just her time to go. She was so anxious around people, just how I am in crowds, so we connected on such a deep level and helped each other with so much.

I agree on the reduction, I'm waiting to see how she reacts after clearing the bounce, but it looks like she is because of the drop. Definitely glad it wasn't anything to worry about. Though the vet did also pick up some signs of a heart murmur, but wasn't ready to say 100% that she has one. It was just something they picked up while doing the general exam part.

Quite a few cats have heart murmurs. Neko has one. I did get it checked out (echocardiogram) and the specialist told me that for her, as long as it doesn't change in level or location that it should be OK. Some cats get murmurs as they age, but other conditions can cause them too. If they do decide it's a murmur, an X-ray could be a first step. I'm always careful about heart murmurs, I lost a cat a few years ago to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart lead to a stroke) and it's something acrocats can get. But it's easily treated if detected in time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Luka, Cindy. I've never had any bird but they do seem full of personality. Pets make life so good. Wishing you peace in your grief. It's hard to lose a little one.

((((Cindy))))

I'm so sorry to hear about Luka. It sounds like the two of you shared a special bond. Parakeets can be so clever! I hope that Tip realizes how sad you are and provides some extra cuddles and comfort.

I didn't realize that you're not far from where I moved. (I moved to Columbus from Chicago in April.)
