Looks like still bouncing, will wait for clearing before deciding if we are getting this dose right. These skinny and fat dose measurements are challenging!

Managed to get the big guy to eat lower carbs all day yesterday! Fortiflora is fabulous. Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

Thanks Melissa and Peter! Zener must be reading his condo again and following your instructions, he has come down a bit at +2. He is eating the lower carb today too and his appetite is good. Trying a new food with him - Natural Balance - turkey and something, also 11% carbs and he ate like a lumberjack!

Yes, Melissa that Fortiflora is magic. It is totally responsible for Zener getting off kibble and on wet food! We were making no progress even using ground up kibble, parmesan cheese, freeze dried chicken dust and I can't remember what else. When we added Fortiflora he would eat wet food. I still had to hand feed a few bits to get him started and even now I often have to rub a little on his nose. He licks it off, then looks at his bowl as if to say "oh, that's what's in there", and starts to eat. dancing_cat

We are trying to sort out going from a sk1.5u to "shave" to a f1.25u. Is there a difference in these two and how is the best way to measure? We aren't doing so well with the eyeball method. Thanks!

We are really having a bear measuring out this dose. We tried eyeballing and just can't see it consistently. So, we tried the drop counting method and only 1 drop looked like what we were giving for the sk1.5, 2 drops was 1.25u. So, we are confused about the difference in a sk 1.5 and a f1.25. I really think what we are giving is 1.25 rather than a f1.25. Any advice is appreciated!

Oops, sorry I wasn't clear about that. On 8/21 we had some 80s for Zener and were having to give him lots of carbs to keep him there. We "talked" with a few people on here and doing a dose shave was suggested. Then we were advised to try to shoot through his bounce, if we felt comfortable and we did it. Then on 8/22 in the PM he broke the bounce and dropped pretty quick into the low 100s and again had to give him high carbs all night to maintain the surf. Jill advised us to try the dose shave since we were having to work pretty hard to keep him in safe numbers. So, we started the dose shave on 8/23 while he was bouncing (again). Now, seems he may be breaking that one and we are just not quite sure we are accurate in measuring the difference in a sk1.5 and a f1.25. We've tried eyeballing and drop counting and it looks more to us like the sk1.5 and f1.25 are the same. That's the confusion we are having over how to measure.

Got a check at +1.5 and BG steady at 265. Starting to eat a little better, so able to get in 1oz 13% carbs.

i don't have any advice on that dose, although i have seen that pharmacists have a little magnifying tube that you can put around the syringe to be able to see it better. i know that in general, what you call it isn't important, just so you are consistent with it.

sorry that's probably not very helpful. but i wanted to say hi anyway. :-D

btw, ann and tess measures in drops - maybe she can suggest something for you.
