woke up with Shadow next to my pillow this morning. She's getting up there on her stool but she hadn't
been doing that.
We also mostly sleep on the couch in case I need to test and she did fall off the back at 3 am.
I have noticed that her sleep is a lot deeper than it ever was. She mostly catnapped all her life
and now you actually can move around and she doesn't watch. She's just konked out.

Re: 8/24 Shadow AMPS 83

Hi Rhiannon,

Shadow is looking great! Beautiful #s and being able to jump up on the stool and bed again is super. I wouldn't be surprised if a celebration is in your future too! :-D

Nice numbers for Shadow!
Interesting with the deep sleep, as I've noticed the same with Maggie. Have a nice day.

Re: 8/24 Shadow AMPS 83

Dear Shadow,

Can you have a chat with the rest of our kitties and explain to them how this diabetes/BG/eating thing works and what they ought to be doing to be more like you?! Ok. Thanks!

~Deborah

p.s. Rhiannon, you're doing a great job! :-D

Hi Rhiannon,

Thanks for visiting us yesterday:) Shadow is having a nice surf right now  I hope it lasts alllllll day! When Ella is low she sleeps extra deeply as well. Must feel extra good to be in those healing numbers!

Hope you have a great day!

Re: 8/24 Shadow AMPS 83 +3~82

Hi guys,
Rusty sleeps deeply, too. He sleeps the whole night through, usually. And when he takes his "down time" during the day, it's often difficult to wake him.

Beautiful numbers for Shadow today! I'd like Rusty to get back to those numbers!!

Rhiannon, I wipe the needle and the plastic top of the syringe with a piece of paper towel after filling the syringe and twisting out the excess insulin to get down to my dose. Otherwise the "nose" test for a fur shot won't work!!

Have a great day,

Ella & Rusty

Hi again, Rhiannon,
To respond to your comment in Rusty's condo:

I saw your note to me.
I'm afraid of wiping off the syringe that way.
I'm nervous about hurting the coating on the needle or bending the needle.
I've had to toss a couple because those needles (being so fine ) bend Easily! . I have a vial of lantus, not the pens and I have to be very diligent not to bend those needles.
I guess I'm more of a heavy handed oaf.

And trying to load the small amount in the syringe and stand up , ready to go, I've even started checking
to see that the fluid is still in there with the magnifying glass right before the stick.
Since the plunger doesn't have to slide very far, I often feel like I'm just shooting a whisper of air.

That's why I don't do anything else to it. I don't even turn it upside down , pointed downward to let the drip fall off.
Guess I'll try turning it tonight.

You barely have to touch the needle with a small piece of paper towel or a kleenex. Just enough to absorb any extra insulin. In any event, I don't think the needles are coated with anything, it is the inside of the barrel of the syringe that has a coating.

Why would the stopper of the vial be any different to insert the needle into than the stopper on a pen (or a cartridge)?

When I wipe off the needle and the tip of the syringe I usually do it with the syringe held vertically, needle pointing upward. I don't think that pointing the syringe downward would help at all, and may even be a hindrance. Those tricky Terumo plungers have a life of their own and may decide to slide, and then you would lose your insulin and have to start all over!!!

Good luck

Ella

Re: 8/24 Shadow AMPS 83 +3~82

Hi Rhiannon
I saw you mention it on Rusty's condo, and wanted to say, that one of the brands of syringe I used, had that little well, where the insulin would gather on the outside.
I found the simplest way to get rid of it without touching the needle, was to just lightly touch a corner of a tissue to it, and the tissue will instantly absorb it. No need to put your finger near the needle.

I just looked down at the responses, and see that Ella said the same thing, but said it first. I refuse to delete mine.

What a beautiful day for Shadow.
