Moonie’s numbers have not been great recently, even after going up by 0.25u on Friday. We may do another dose increase tomorrow morning depending on how tonight goes. We leave on Sunday night, so we still have 12 cycles before we head out for a week long vacation - and probably 6 cycles before we need to consider draining her depot.
I realized last night that my own stress and mood has likely contributed to Moonie’s high numbers.
She has been uncharacteristically “difficult” in the last few days. Spitting out her Prozac (which of course made her crankier and less cooperative because we weren’t able to give her Prozac consistently for a few days). Moving her ears away when we try to test.
It all came to a head last night when she kept flicking her little ears away when we tried to warm her ears, and because we couldn’t warm it properly, we didn’t get any blood even after something like 6-7 pokes. After a bit, I could see Parker and Moonie get visibly frustrated. So I sent him out to get dinner, and I just quietly sat with Moonie. I waited 15 minutes and she just plopped.
I pet her and I sang to her about what a beautiful and kind and patient kitty she is. I modified a Lion King song to sing about her voracious appetite. She then let me test her with zero resistance and zero bribes.
And in that moment, it hit me that I couldn’t think of the last time I wasn’t stressed or hurried doing her Prozac or test. And as soon as I sang silly songs to her like I used to, Moonie accepted the testing just like she used to.
That or maybe the price of ear pokes is bad singing and I wasn’t paying the appropriate homage
In all seriousness I do think that Moonie’s blood glucose regulation is impacted by the emotional regulation of her humans - and we haven’t done a great job at that recently. We’re going to do a lot better now with that very important reminder in mind
This is Moonie from yesterday giving her best model pose. We were eating lunch and she wanted to make sure that we knew she was there with NO lunch
