Oh my ~O) ~O) may need one of those White Peppermint Mochas today! Yes, I checked it twice and then waited 30 minutes and checked a third time right at shot time! I don't yet have a 2nd human meter to compare. I did order one from ADW. I think it was the kitty grass I bought at Petco. with the AMPS! I thought it might be okay and would add some fiber, but I could kick myself for not researching it more! It's called "Pet Greens Pet Grass" and I have a call in to check what is in the "Green Nutrition" that is added, a good guess is sugar! No wet noodles please; I already gave them to myself! :( Anyway, I set the grass down on the carpet and wasn't aware Maggie was already chewing away on it an hour before shot time, and then all of a sudden some barfing up the grass! She was loving it, almost attacking it, non noming away! She's okay and was sitting on my lap reading condos with me and purring away. She had two mini meals of Wellness Turkey and no vomit.
Healing vines to Mannie and all kitties and Beans needing them.

Anne & Zener, from yesterday's condo, thanks for the info on Cisapride. Apparently it is off the market, but Vets can still give scripts to Owners for their pets from what I've read online. This was something the Vet mentioned if the Miralax wasn't enough. Thanks on the Zantac. I didn't give Maggie any pepcid after the vomit, as she seemed okay and has good appy. So you're saying the Zantac would be in place of the Pepcid for those times when Mags has an upset tummy?

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291

Maggie! What the heck girl? Come down from there. You are not a dark yellow kitty. I hope you get it figured out and she comes down for you. Could be the grass. I'm not sure since we only use grass from seed that was sent to me by MJ. If you would like to try and grow some of that, I have a bunch of seeds and can send you some. It is FD friendly. At least she is feeling good. She can't understand why mama bean is so tense. Silly kitty. Have a great day Ann!

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291

Whoa, Mags....come on down!!!

Cute that she dove into the grass...till the barf and BG spike came along, that is.

Have a great day, Ann!

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

+5 146
Much better. It most likely was the "Kitty Greens" and the vomit causing the almost pink number!

Thanks Melissa on the offer for seeds. It does seem like the Petco grass was the cause. I gave a call in to learn what is in the added greens. She sure did enjoy it!

Hi Amy, looks like she's reading her condo and sliding down. I gave her a poke break. he was in such a deep sleep I hated to wake and test.

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

I'll put my money on the yakking to cause the higher number.
That is stressful on the body, just think how it makes us feel.

I haven't tried any grass for fun because it's always made our cats upchuck. Maybe it's a "can't eat just one" kinda
thing. (one blade of grass)

Stay low Maggie. No need to go shooting back up. Just put that notion in the rear view mirror.

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Ok that +5 is more like it Maggie!!!! Sorry about the pukus and the possible spike from the grass. I found the grass helped Ella with some of her lb issues so hopefully you can find something that won't shoot Maggie up:)

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

About the Zantac, we read in LL (and now I can't remember where) that you could use it in place of pepcid and that it has an additional benefit for GI motility. We give Zener 1/8 of a 75mg tablet twice a day. We think it's helped. :?

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Hi Ann.
I'm glad to see Maggie's numbers coming down. Now you've got me thinking about grass and upchucking. I realize the Pet Grass is packaged, and may hve additives, but it never crossed my mind that upchucking itself, might cause higher numbers.

I'd like to think there's no connection, but Checks has been going for an evening stroll on leash lately...he loves to eat grass, and hack it back up overnite. I wonder now about those numbers.
I'd be interested to see what others say about your grass and Maggie's upchucking.

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Hi Ann,

Rusty doesn't go for grass, but Stu used to eat grass so that he would vomit (on purpose) and get up hairballs. I had a lot of success growing Cosmic Catnip Kitty Grass (a mix of oat grass, wheat grass, barley grass). You can buy it at Wag.com (which, I believe, is where you buy your cat food):

http://www.wag.com/cat/p/cosmic-catnip-kitty-cat-grass-137869

I don't think that it raised Stu's bgs. The nice thing about Cosmic Catnip Grass is that the seeds come from the USA. I always like to know the origin of what I buy. Too many scary products out there!!

Good luck. Looks like Maggie is coming down nicely,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Glad to see Maggie has come down, maybe the grass did cause the spike. We have not offered Jasper grass, he likes lettuce but that leads to auto barf. We give him a little bit of canned 100% pure pumpkin to help with hairballs. I have not noticed it causing any spikes, the can is gone but I would not be surprised to find it has some amount of sugar like any fruit. Have a great day!

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Glad to see Maggie back down in the blues, if not the greens where she belongs.

It was most likely the grass that caused the pukus and the pukus that spiked her numbers. One of the main reasons that cats eat grass is to hack up hairballs or something else that has upset their tummies. It acts as a trigger to vomit, but they still like it. Silly kitters! Most of the stuff sold is wheat, oat or rye grass. I looked up "wheatgrass' in a nutritional chart and it's Glycemic Index is very low, so I don't think carbs are the cause of the spike. I think she just ate too much and had the expected result.

As for the "green nutrition" I doubt if anything was added if it is growing grass. They just put stuff like that on to impress us and make us buy, buy, buy! Bottom line is, if she likes it let her have some for a treat, just know that pukus isn't unusual.

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Hi and thanks for all the responses to the Kitty Grass and upchucking.

Hi Leslie, interesting that Jasper likes lettuce, but sorry he auto barfs! I'm not laughing that he barfs, but just the term auto barf!

Thanks Dale, I sure was glad to see at least the insulin is working. :-D

Ella, thanks for the info and link on Cosmic Catnip Kitty Grass. I just ordered fom Wag.com and will add this to my list. I love how fast the products arrive (within two days).

Hi Barb & Checkers, I think that's so cool you and Checkers take a walk, and he's ok with the leash. It does seem any time Maggie has a pukus, her numbers spike!

Thanks Anne for explaining the Zantac and the helping GI motility. Zener seems to be doing so well in that area.

Thanks Ann & Tess, that's what maintly the person said on the phone about the Wheat Grass and the added Green Nutrition. I guess next time if I do let her have grass again, I will take it away after she has a few chomps.

Tamara, most kitties do well on the grass or so I thought. The company who makes it is to send me an E-mail on it, so I'll be watching for it.

Rhiannon, true, it might be the yakking to cause the higher number, and not the grass. One thing I noticed is that the grass came up whole pieces, so she wasn't chewing it, just down the hatch for some reason!

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146

Sorry to hear about the grass and the vomit this morning. I'm glad Maggie is coming down for you. If I give grass to any of my cats, they always throw up. I don't let Furball have grass any more because of that.

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146; +10 164; PMPS 184

PMPS 184
Not too bad of a day considering the higher AMPS; we managed to stay blue rest of the day!

Hi Carla, interesting that most of the cats vomit up the grass once eaten! I think it would be good for a stubborn hairball. I will also be hesitant to give her any, unless just a small treat, and then I would need to cut it into small slices!

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146; +10 164; PMPS 184

Vyktor chews on grass and then huks it back up on occasion, I caught him doing it on video this week, just a couple of seconds but it's hilarious his eyes look like they are going to pop out of his head  I will see if I can work out how to load it up in a Vyktor condo over the weekend.

He seemed to know when I got to Maggie's condo just now and climbed into my lap to have his ten cents worth - he loves his Maggie :-D

Hey Mags, you are the prettiest. I bet you still look good when you're having a vomit too. I will hold your hair back anytime - love Vyktor xxx

Re: 8/24 Maggie AMPS 291; +5 146; +10 164; PMPS 184

Awww how sweet Vyktor is willing to hold Maggie's hair the next time she vomits.

Leo has always been a big grass eater, but lately he seems to puke it up afterwards. A friend gave me a packet of cat grass seeds that her kitty loves to eat, i planted some seeds today and hopefully they'll be ready in a few weeks.

What was up with those numbers this morning Mags? Good to see she's back down into some blues for tonight.

Have a great evening ladies.

Even better tonight for the pm cycle.

Hi Serryn, almost every kitty seems to upchuck the grass once eaten! I'd love to see the Vyktor video eating the grass. :-D
 Vyktor, so sweet of you to hold my hair back while I do a vomit, love, Mags

Hi Tracy, yes maybe it's just the particular grass. Melissa has some seeds for grass that she uses for Tarragon. I haven't decided on whether I want to try it again on Mags. I hate to see her go so high.

Hi Melissa, much better this evening. I think Pat & Shadow & Raja are sleeping, so I can safely say I just bought a second meter from ADW, and it arrived today. I bought the Arkay Vital, and it's user friendly and only 4 points variance with the Relion Confirm. The meter was free with the strips I bought for it.

Thanks Amy, I just saw your post and yes, much better this evening.

Hi Ann- sorry for the late visit... as usual the day got away from me, and Mannie ash been keeping me busy...

my goodness on Maggie's amps this morning. WOW - I had to look at that twice. I am glad to see that came down over the course of the day. and the grass episode! what a day for you. My Elsa loves that stuff too - Mannie could care less. She's always chomping away on grass somewhere.

I hope you have had a good day today. Enjoy the evening!

Oh no! I'm so sorry!
Ru has never thrown up from the grass but I try to not let her snack on it for more than a few minutes at a time. Its the same brand I got and from everything I read, the grass itself shouldn't directly spike the BG, but I guess the barfing can.

Hi Michelle, yes, I about choked on my coffee when I saw the AMPS. I blamed it on a wonky meter until I checked three times, and it was the right AMPS, not the meter.

Hi Amy, oh not to worry at all. I left it out and Maggie was chomping at it too long, so it's my fault. I think she just ate too much of it and it was before her first meal of the day. I was withholding food, and she found the grass which I left on the floor.

Shes a cat not a cow, a cat not a cow, maybe a little cow there??
Know how much our Cat Cows love greens--Moonie has chomped on most plants in our house--Copper was even worse than her!!
Not so much anymore as she cant get to them--I alwasy asked her --Are you a cat or a cow??       !!
She never answered
Scary amps, but redeemed during the day--Hugs & Love from us!!!! Miss ya!
