Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Morning Melissa, so sorry Tarragon is still having a hard time with the asthma. That has to be a worry for you and DH. Sending Tarragon some healing vines for a better day. It's a really nice AMPS today for him.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Love seeing those blue numbers on him, but sad to hear he's still having coughing fits. Sending lots of healing vines!!!

Hi Melissa and T.

T., we hope that your breathing will improve today. Rusty is sending you some "breathe-well" vines--special order. Nice AMPS!

Have a good day, Melissa. Hopefully Tarragon's asthma will improve when the weather cools off.

Ella & Rusrty

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Come on T -- hope you start getting the asthma back under control. No coughing if you're gonna hang out with Gabs.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Sending breathing vines for Tarragon.

Just a thought: is he able to get albuterol.......sometimes a puff in the evening can help kitties through the night...it opens the bronchioles up a bit......I remember Cini-Mini's mom giving him the syrup version....no sugar added......she had it made up at a compounding pharmacy.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Tena - I am giving him a puff of albuterol in the morning and another puff in the evening before his 2 puffs of 250 flovent. With his flare, I have also been giving him another puff or two during the night of the albuterol trying to get his airways to open up.

Darn...I was hoping we could add a little something to help Mr. T.

Sending more breathing vines......

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

I know. I am running out of ideas. The vet did say they could do a pred shot. However, the last two times he has gotten one he has ended up in the ER with pancreatitis and DKA so I really don't want to do that. The shot is too final and you can't control the dose once it is in their body or taper down based on BGs.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Hi Melissa,

I'm so sorry Tarragon is having asthma attacks again. I missed your previous post on it and this is the first I knew. How often are his attacks? When did he go up to 10mg? It's great that he's still able to maintain a blue bg.

Do you ever bring him in for a shot? I haven't with Racci but I know a lot of people on the asthma board would do it when it was bad. What I do is bring her in the bathroom and steam it up with hot water from the shower, sink, tub and sit with her for 20 minutes or so and that helps her.

I hope he feels better soon and whatever is causing the flare stops blooming!

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Melanie - Tarragon has had asthma for 7 years and used to get shots all the time (every 4 - 8 weeks). They were really the only thing that would completely kick it. However, he ended up with FD because of the shots most likely. That is when we switched to Flovent. His asthma is pretty bad and the Flovent has never taken care of it completely so we also give 5 mg prednisolone every other day when things are good. We have been giving 5 mg a day for the last month or so. On Tuesday we upped it to 10 mg a day so he has had two days of it now.

We have had a shot twice since FD diagnosis and both times he ended up in the hospital for a week with pancreatitis and DKA. We won't do the shot anymore. With the pill, you are able to stop it immediately if you see something weird with the BGs. With a shot, you shoot it all at once and you can't take any back. The vet is completely against it because of this, as are we.

We have done the shower thing the last two nights (and once last week). Not pleasant when it is 95 outside. It seems to help somewhat, but not completely.

Edit: The attacks are happening anytime he really exerts himself at all or you pick him up right now. :(

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Yes, I knew you were giving him 5mg. That's why I was surprised and saddened that it got bad enough that you had to go up to 10mg. I wouldn't use the shots either under those circumstances. I was just wondering since I never used them and had heard so many say they did. I wish there were something to help poor Tarragon.

I know the shower is no fun especially in the summer! If it helps though it's worth it. Racci seems to get them when picked up too. I try to pick her up without touching her chest, but holding her butt and back in the front instead. I'm so sorry! Let me know if there's anything I can do please.

Have to give Racci meds. brb.

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Just another thought....

One thing Curry's vet had me do was to give the albuterol every 4-6 hours...round the clock. Yes, I was going home at lunch to give it to her but I was able to sneak away.....she wasn't coughing as much though...but did open mouthing breathing upon exertion....and her respiration rate was pretty high at rest.

Cini's mom was givng the Terbutaline syrup which lasts 12 hours...so only two doses.....easier than giving the albuterol every 4-6.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Poor baby. I'm not much help with the asthma issue but I can send Tarragon lots of healing vines for easier breathing.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

That is a good idea Tena! I will have DH give some albuterol when he is home at lunch. I always try and give the albuterol about 1/2 hour before the flovent to let it work first so the flovent goes in better.

Unfortunately any kind of syrup won't work. Tarragon and I would just end up with it all over both of us and none down his throat.

Hope the extra albuterol helps him.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Melissa, I am so sorry to hear that Mr. T is having problems again with the asthma. It sounds like you are doing everything you can to help him. Scary about the shots and how he had to go to the ER both times. Definitely wouldn't do that again. Sending tons of healing vines and prayers for Tarragon and you and DH.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Awww. Poor baby. Sending healing vines for Tarragon's asthma. So sorry you are struggling with this.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Sending tons of healing vines for Tarragon, Melissa. :YMHUG: He's showing you a very nice AMPS this morning. That's a very lovely #. Hoping for lower AMPS very soon for you both.

Thank you for pointing out the error in my condo subject line. I appreciate it. :)

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Morning Melissa. I hope tarragon feels better soon. How tough it all must be. Really nice amps today though.

Hope yiu have a great day.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Awwwww, Melissa....This is not what I wanted to see! Sounds like you are doing everything right.....I hope something lets his asthma ease up a little. Makes for some very long nights! I would be terrified of a depo shot for all the reasons you stated....if he has had reactions like that in the past, I would be scared to try it again.

Have you ever tried Claritin with him? I have used it with Zoe when she sounds congested and that seems to clear it right up. I use 1/4 of a 10mg tab every 12 hours. Just a thought.

There is also Terbutaline and Singulair that have shown to help some asthma kitties.

LOL on the syrup.....sounds exactly like what happens to me and Zoe when I try to give her liquid meds.

Good luck!

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Sorry to hear tht the asthma isn't getting better, hopefully another day at the 10mg will help. Pretty blue AMPS in spite of it all though.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

Thank you all. :YMHUG: Paws crossed the 10 mg will kick in and do the trick.

Sherry - Tarragon was on Singulair for about 6 months and it didn't work for him. I have tried the Claritin a few times and it didn't seem to help but I might give it another try. I just got a big bottle this weekend.

DH said no coughing at lunch. However, Tarragon was asking for water which is not a good sign and is sitting like his tummy is bothering him a little. He is eating fine though. He gets Pepcid with his prednisolone.

Re: 8/23 Tarragon AMPS 128

lots and lots and lots of healing light being sent your way.

Melissa, thinking of your sweet Tarragon and sending healing vines for a better night and hope the prednisolone kicks in for him.
(((Hugs)))

Is there a factor causing Tarragon's ashma attack? Temp change? Seasonal change?
I'll try to take a pic of my DiY steam chamber box for your reference when I come back from Singapore next week.
Sending healing vines to Tarragon! I occasionally have breathing problem myself & I know how terrible & stressed that is.
