Had a Lemon Sammich Cookie Day Yesterday

Bleh. Already did this but accidentally put it in Health. That ought to tell you what kind of wonderful condition I'm in today. (The allergies do this to me.) Tried to give Rufus his .75u this morning and gave another fur shot. Not good. :(

Need to get Rufus his lion cut, again. He's got a vet appointment on Fri., might ask for a recommendation on a groomer then. Going to do more tests today. ohmygod_smile

Re: 8/23 Rufus AMPS 317... FUR SHOT. Grr.

:YMHUG: It happens. I've done that in the past, too. I'm hoping that Rufus will give you some good #'s today. :) I hope that you feel better soon, too. Allergies aren't any fun.

Re: 8/23 Rufus AMPS 317... FUR SHOT. Grr.

furshots are a bummer, but they happen .. it's ok ... hopefully he doesn't go much higher for you!

Hi Bee

what's going on here? Another fur shot? :o lol!
Is Rufus long haired? I've heard that some beans just shave the neck area themselves to get a better shot in.

I took my civvie kitty the first time to the vet for a lion cut, it sucked cuz they insisted she get bloodwork done so they can be sure she would be ok - fine!
Almost $200 later ohmygod_smile I told my vet at the time, that she is well behaved etc but noooo she needs bloodwork...geesh!
After that I found a local groomer (yai for groomers!) that does mostly dogs, but had done kitties too, and it was only $40, and she was fine!
So now I really like my groomer :-D And my civvie always looks so funny in her lion cut

these long haired kitties can be hard to shoot. I've given my share of fur shots. It happens, it's annoying and a real bummer but you and Rufus will recover.

OMG that is such a cute pic!

Re: 8/23 Rufus AMPS 317... FUR SHOT. Grr.

Lol, thanks everybody. I'm in a much better mood now that my Sudafed has had a chance to kick in. I was getting dizzy from all the sneezing I was doing.

And Bast looks so pretty, lol. Rufus had to have a modified lion cut to clear up some matting issues he was having (he was very poorly regulated at the time - his fur was just a mess), so it wasn't much by choice, but it was pretty funny when he came home. It was a bit chilly in the house and he tried to lay down on the (hard) floor - wound up arching his body right back up and glaring at all of us. Not only were WE the ones who kept the house cold, but we also made him bald. Ugh. Humans!

I'd shave a spot, or even just trim a little area to get a shot in, but... he just looked so cute with his hair-do. I'll admit it, I can't wait to see it again. :-D

Re: 8/23 Rufus AMPS 317... FUR SHOT. Grr.

I've been using the short needles. I only started shooting a couple weeks ago (Mom was doing it before). The long needles are what disturbed me about the process - but now that I've done it, I don't think it would be a problem. That being said - we had just bought syringes when I started, so we still have a few packs to go through. (Mom likes to buy them from the pharmacy - I'll just order the new ones long if I can't get Rufus groomed by then.)

Thanks for the well-wishing, everyone, Rufus and I appreciate it very much and he "conveys his most gentlemanly gratitude"... by running upstairs at the sight of a neighbor he's seen hundreds of times. I'm going to get a +4 from him (coming up in about 30min) and let him do as he pleases for a while... although I might see if he's interested in a little play time. :-D

Re: 8/23 Rufus AMPS 317... FUR SHOT. Grr.

I have a whole box of long needles I can send you, as Moonie doesnt need them-OK?--Be glad for someone to use them..Just PM me your address..
Dont beat yourself up over the fur shot--I just did one last week & look how long we are here!!!
Sometimes some insulin gets in anyway, so you will see what's what with your next spot check--
It happens to all of us--You are doing very well--Dont beat yourself up over it--Have a good Monday!

Re: 8/23 Rufus AMPS 317... FUR SHOT. Grr.

It's a much better Monday now that I've had a Sudafed nap. Wow, did I ever need that. When we took Rufus' +4 I was nearly catatonic. My hands could barely clutch the lancet pen. Poor boy didn't want to sit still, either - he could definitely tell that Mom shouldn't have been operating heavy machinery (or sharp objects), but we got some numbers anyway.

At +4, Rufus was 317 - the same as his AMPS. I wonder about that.
At +7 we got 250 - clearly I managed to get some insulin in there, but he's definitely not doing his best. I might do a little trim job on the flank to get easier access to some skin... that might be a two person job, though.

Roni, that's very nice of you, but are you sure you won't need them? (Not that they're hard to come by. :-D )
