Oh Ravan, teasing those sharks...I tell ya. Be good for Momma:cool::D

I saw Ravan just had another seizure recently. I'm sorry:(:blackeye:
I'm sure you're aware of this, just wanted to make sure. I looked up Calcitriol. Sorry, I'm being nosey.
Seizures are listed as a potential side effect if the dose is not high enough. Again, really sorry if i'm overstepping my bounds. Just trying to find a pattern to the seizures. They almost coincide with the Calcitriol. But, Ravans calcium levels are on the high end of normal according to his labs. So it technically doesn't fit that seizures could be caused by low calcium levels. I'll share the info nonetheless. I hope you have a great day Joy. Be good Ravan:):bighug:

Here's what I found....copied/pasted:

Are there any potential side effects?
Side effects are uncommon if the dose is appropriate. Doses that are too high may cause side effects such as increased drinking and urination, and lack of appetite. If the dose is not high enough, signs such as muscle tremors, twitching, facial itching, stiffness, weakness, unsteadiness, or seizures may occur.

This short-acting medication should stop working within 24 hours, although effects can be longer in pets with liver or kidney disease.

trying to find a pattern to the seizures.
No need to apologise I "Always " appreciate when anyone takes the time to provide me with information!

Ravan's last blood test was in November & it was good. His Calcium Phos Ratio was 49.68 which was lower than his previous Ratio Anything below 60 is considered very good.

He's due for another blood test but my vet retired & I don't know where to take him. I will not "drop" him off. The only way he will go to any vet is if I go in with him.

He's been doing good as far as eating, his BG is doing good right now (but that seems to change without warning sometimes) & he's also not peeing as much as he used to. The seizures are very unpredictable. He's only had 12 in over 2 years. The last one was a big surprise because it was only 9 days since the last one. I thought it was caused by a certain noise but now I feel he was ready to have the seizure & maybe a noise pushed him over to it but there have been many times he's heard the same sound & did not have a seizure.

As you mentioned ,Low calcium can cause tremors & a seizure but Ravan's calcium is on the high side.

I'm always doing research ,looking for new info. I've never had a cat with as many problems as Ravan! Many of my kitties have lived over 20 years. Daisy had cancer & surgery at age 20 & lived to be 24.
I guess just like with people. Some have great genes & live a long time no matter what they eat or do!

We are hanging in there, trying to take one day at a time. I try to keep everything as stress free as possible.

Thanks again for the information :)

Does anyone remember having cats as kids and they ate crap food no vaccines and lived vey long lives?
I miss those days! Dre is my first diabetic and the learning curve is immense and in my experience the vets have not advocated testing or any thing to help a long term diabetic. I called 3 "experts" and 1 yelled at me to leave his ears alone! I was done with "experts" after that. On the bright side 1 of my current vets is all about testing and even has a poster in the restroom about testing. Baby steps!

Yep! Those were ,"the good old days" At one time I had 2 boys 2 & 4 yrs old, my husband left, I had no job (I cleaned my neighbors houses to earn money )
I took in a litter of 6 kittens no one wanted. They were fed the cheapest cat food I could find & never saw a vet! They all lived over 20 yrs & the last one was 24!
Our world is too polluted now. The ocean is full of plastic & we probably are too !

My cat Ravan was the first one that ever got diabetes & now kidney disease & seizures. I got lucky ,my vet was old time medicine. He was willing to listen to my ideas & often gave me a break on the bill. He retired in March :(
I doubt if I'll go to a vet now. You're lucky you found someone that's willing to co operate.

Most vets are out for the money. They want you to use an animal meter & the strips that cost a fortune & they want you to bring them in for them to test!

When I started here I knew "nothing" about Diabetes. I read everything & did research. The more you know the easier it gets to handle everything without getting stressed out.

How come your SS stops at 2017?

HI
Yes I had barn cats that lived forever-horses dogs rabbits the whole shabang! I still am not a fan of vaccines.

I stopped charting because it was a crazy time-Rico my other boy got a heart condition/IBD as well, and Dre with FD I was so stressed and he wasn't going into remission and he bounces like a basket ball! I keep his number and meds in my phone since he has had fd 6 years now and just turned 21. After grooming all day then tending to my sweet Dre who is still grieving the loss of Rico as am I-it was just too much. He is my first diabetic too.
