well.. the past few days just trying to adjust and think on things. a number of things are making sense now and things I didn't realize before.. and im pretty upset about it. upset is putting it lightly. we go forward now.. but will say this that at the time we were dealing w so much I didn't check his papers (when he was sick a bit earlier this year and went to hospital), and that ER fool didn't mention a number, but was told his BP was high at the time.. and so I called yesterday to see what the reading was, they sent the records.. it was 240.............. 240. why she didn't stress to me or have us go home w meds or do something is really inexplicable, or explain that this was something to keep and eye on.. have him take another blood pressure test. SOMETHING. apparently 1 in 3 older cats have hypertension as well. you know, you pay these people and expect them to help u! but the truth is, some of these professionals do not care. and at the time, I was mostly distressed about his being able to eat and he's always very stressed having to be in the car and go to the vet so it can make BG AND BP high... and the regular vet noticed his eyes a little but chalked it up to cataracts at the time.. just a number of things are falling into place and making sense, and im angry. 😅 this went unchecked for months. and mind u, he's seen multiple people.. no one can be bothered to open they're mouth as a generality and say "he's older, keep an eye on that, esp w FD going on at the moment"? I mean.. something. but competence in the establishment is.. lacking to say the least. just caring.. and I'm certain dealing w the heat and stress as well didn't help.. hoping it didn't arise from it.. 🥺 but idk. 😞

.......... WOOF! 😑 I'm not too happy rn... a little better but.. this is kinda stinky cuz I can't test for this and its something else he has to deal w (its really hard to do at home unless someone might know; and machine is really expensive.. and peanut ain't gonna let me do that.. he puts up w enough w the tests and shots..) so we just going slowly.. and he is my older baby.. but I feel terrible he's felt bad all this time!!!! I just chalked up to getting back to numbers and the sugars..... sigh. its nerve-racking to add this too cuz bottoming out isn't good at ALL w BP also but, eh.. 😕

well.. we got some meds filled yesterday cuz the compounded gel (Amlodipine) takes time to be made and shipped.. (used Chewy..) because peanut gives me trouble in the past having to do pills.. but I know nugget aint feeling great so I definitely wanted to try doing something in the interim. talked to his eye specialist, got some tablet form and they are so itty bitty (cuz it gotta be cut 4 ways..) that I was able to smoosh between a turkey treat and he scooped it up amidst the others! we got it in far as I can tell! word!...... he's so good. 🥰 he really is a champ..cutting them up tho is a pain in the can cuz even w a pill cutter they all uneven....... so just cherry picking the best pieces. glad to have a transdermal coming... also bypasses the GI tract, which I certainly dig..

and checked his numbers, a little higher then ideal right, but I reduced today because of this.. focusing on the BP meds for the day and since it was the oral route, seeing how is on the tummy.. considering he had a few days on this dose (prior to today).. numbers looking nice. 😇 thinking maybe to continue, tho suggested maybe to go up. but lmk thoughts.. ✨

ugh.. hope all hanging in. ugh. 💜

Max had high bp. I used amlodipine. I weighed the tiny piece on a gram scale. I’m not so sure I would ever use the transdermal.

Few meds are as good administering that way.
No, transdermal amlodipine is not as effective as the oral pill for treating hypertension in cats
. While it can still lower blood pressure to a degree, studies show that its bioavailability (the proportion of the drug that enters circulation) is significantly lower than that of the oral form.

What about hiding it in ground food like sardines? That’s what I am doing for Mocha’s Zyrtec. If that did not work I would use gel capsules. If you must do the transdermal you may find you need a larger dose. I did buy a Doppler bp machine but didn’t get to use it. I pieced it together which took time. Some people say cheap ones on Amazon work. Tanyascrf has a section on them. Max did not have ckd when first diagnosed with high bp. I never would have known had I not asked my vet to take a baseline bp. Stress and white coat syndrome can make them test even higher at the vet just like with people.

I'm sorry this has happened. It's so aggravating when the people who have the knowledge don't rightly share it with us or don't guide us as they should. I hope Pudge will begin to feel better with the medication.:bighug:
hugs! thanks.. us too haha 🥴 its terrible honestly. ive noticed that in a lot of professions.. stuck up walking around like they know what theyre doing or talking about.. 🫤.. its confusing. (this seemed like a very basic thing to call attention to………. ugh. ❤️‍🩹):bighug: tysm!! very glad able today..

he did?.. ✨ thanks for heads up ❤️‍🩹 good to keep all in mind.. we’re gonna do what we can. we’ll see how goes. did manage today and do have some tablets left.. and thats what i thought too when u mentioned if comes to it; if the case, dose might have to go up on transdermal to compensate, true 😊.. it was like a difference of 20 points.. (if i saw the studies u did) and exactly.. can inflate numbers.. the stress.. but hes having other symptoms too.. so.. ugh. figure also that when it comes down to it just getting anything at all is gonna help. (?) ✨

Awww I’m so sorry to hear all of this going on with Pudge. I’m so glad you are now on top of it and he is getting the medication to help him feel better 😘 ❤️‍🩹

There’s so much to pay attention to and question it just blows your mind 😥

BP is something I have to watch also with hyperthyroidism, but every time I take Ivy in for labs and ask for a BP check, they tell me she’s too fractious to do it 🤬
So I don’t get enough readings, or as often as I would like) to keep close tabs on it. Very frustrating.

Sending you and sweet Pudge hugs. I hope he feels much better 🥰 ❤️‍🩹💞
