Morning ~O) ~O) and :( oh darn, back up to yellow after such a nice cycle yesterday. I guess it could be a bounce. Usually Maggie doesn't bounce, but she has lost some regulation with the constipation issues. She's feeling good and 4 P's, but no poo yet for Inspector Poo and Chief Inspector Crapdash's report. *** It's very strange. She reaches a nice Nadir, so I think my Lantus is okay. Looking at her ss, numbers started climbing when Mags started with the constipation. Last week the Vet mentioned Cisapride for Maggie if the Miralax isn't working. It's a prescription and from what I've read can be pricey as it has to be compounded. Have any kitties here used it?

*** ETA *** At 6:00 am Maggie deposited a long prezzie +2 short ones; sorry, I've always been detail oriented!

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241

What's up with the yellow Maggie? That is very unusual for her. She will get back to her normal self in no time.

No help here on the meds. I have never heard of it but we have never dealt with constipation with either of our kitties. I am sure the constipation has something to do with the higher numbers.

Hope your heat and humidity finally broke. Still in the 90's here but it beats the 100+ anytime. Have a great day Ann!

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241

Good Morning Ann & Maggie,

I hope that today will be the day that Maggie will get "regular" and start to get back to her usual bgs. I don't know the medicine you refer to, but I hope it will work. Maybe give yogurt a try. Will Maggie eat yogurt? If so, try some plain, Greek-style, no-fat yogurt with bio cultures. She may simply need to get the "good" bacteria in her intestines working better. You could mix a little into her food, or, if she likes it, serve it up plain.

I hope that cooler weather with less humidity is coming soon to your area,

Ella & Rusty

Good news! Maggie just deposited some prezzies at around 6 am! So it seems this is a once every three days, which the Vet says is okay as long as the consistency and size is okay, also something about diameter. :?

Hi Melissa, hope so, too, on Maggie's numbers. The heat and humidity are a little better this week.

Hi Ella, thanks for the reminder on the good Greek yogurt which Mags loves. The one I usually buy has a little sugar, but I'll see if i can find one with no sugar.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174

Does she eat cat (wheat) grass? Since we changed to canned food, Ru has had trouble every few weeks, so I'd been giving her little doses of Miralax.
I picked up some cat grass a couple of weeks ago and she just loves the stuff. And it seems to be keeping things moving along nicely. I don't let her eat it every day because it seemed like that was a bit too much help, but every other day seems to work for her.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174

Yay for prezzies again!!!

Do you think maybe Mags needs a little more juice to get her back down into Maggie numbers? Trix's needs fluctuate quite a bit...who knows why. Personally I've almost given up trying to figure it out, and just adjust her dose when her numbers tell me to do so....

Have a great day!!!

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174

Hi Amy, I never thought to try some cat grass! I an making a stop at PetsMart after my hair appt., so I'll take a look at their cat grass. Thanks.

Hi Amy & Trixie, yes, she did need more juice and this is her 2nd day on 4 drops, so we'll give it a fe more cycles and see if she can hold it.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174

I just bought it on a whim. I was really expecting Midgie would be more interested in it than Ruby. It was when I was looking around to see if I had to worry about it affecting Ru's BG that it occurred to me that its fiber!

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

I haven't seen this mentioned so it's just a thought.
Accidophillis is what's in the yogurt that aides motility. You can buy just accidophillis in capsules.
So many of us are already adding B12 in food. What about accidophillis? The pill form wouldn't have sugar ( i hope)
Maybe there's a reason against it that I don't know about.

Hope Maggie keeps sliding down with a nice blue surf. Green is even "gooder".

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

Good! You got a prezzie! Maybe that will help quite a bit. Hope you are doing ok, Ann.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

She is coming back to some better numbers, let's just hope that it's still a little NDW and she will settle to the dose soon.

Tess skips days too and days that she hasn't left a deposit I give her a little Miralax. Every day she gets a dose of Petdophilus (probiotic formula for pets). I get it at the local health food store. A bottle lasts about 4 months. Are you on or off the raw food? They don't need to poo as much with that. BTW we're using the regular NV chicken (not the organic) and Tess seems to like it just as well, much cheaper! It's 5% carbs instead of 4%, but only 145 instead of 160 for the phos.

Hi Rhiannon, thanks for that suggestion. I was just out for an appt. and just got home and forgot to pick up the yogurt. I did pick up some kitty grass, and Mags munched on it a bit. I'll keep that in mind.

Hi Dale, thanks and Maggie is feeling so much better after the prezzie. We were even playing with her pole toy. I'm exhausted from running around doing stuff and not getting anything done! We have a nice marine layer but in my area still humid.

Ann & Tess, I gave the NV Raw away to a neighbor. I didn't want it to add to more of the no poo problem. Great that Tess likes the other NV and less expensive. Would the Petdophilus be similar to my giving Maggie yogurt? Also Rhiannon's accidophillis.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

Hi Ann

Sorry to hear about Maggie's poo problems.

I second what Ann/Tess sd about Pet Dolphilus. It seems to be pretty good stuff. It has similar properties as yogurt but has some added ingredients specific for pets. Helps with both diarrhea and constipation. It is similar to foriflora but seems alot more potent. It last a long time. I keep in the frig.

Here's to hoping Miss Mags become just a "regular" kitty again.

cheers,
tena

Oh...how about some pics of our sweet girl. :)

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

Thanks very much Tena on seconding the Petodophilus. I think this is why Maggie's numbers are a out of range for her with the poo problems.
Okayeen on some pics. My hard drive crash, so there went all my pics. As soon as I reload my camera software, I'll post a pic of Maggie. Nice hearing from you. I hope all is well with you.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

Yes, what Tena said!  They are all probiotics, but Petdophilus is live culture so more potent and is designed for pets. Slightly different strains of accidophillis.

Our vet recommended it and it mixes right in her food, she doesn't even notice.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134

Yeah for prezzies from Maggie and yeah for playing with the pole toy. It sounds like she feels pretty good.

Wohoo on the prezzies from Maggie! What a good girl:)

We managed to stay in the blue! :-D

Thanks Carla. Yes, when Maggie plays with her pole toy, I know she's feeling good!

Thanks Tamara, it's always a good day when Mags does the prezzies.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134; PMPS 194

A happy Maggie is all we love to hear! Glad she is cheerful & "reliefed"
Maybe spend some time on the green Maggie?

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134; PMPS 194

Hi Ann
Yay on the good sized tootsie rolls. It's interesting that cat grass will cause other cats to poo. Checkers never had specifically something called cat grass. Is it the same thing as backyard grass..as he just pukes that up.
Lovely blues for Miss Maggie today. :-D

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134; PMPS 194

Here is a third vote for Pet Dophilus. I have had a hard time finding it in Canada, but I picked some up at the Whole Foods in Fort Collins and both kitties have been getting a little bit each day. It does seem to make things a little less dry and easier for both. Now I just have to see if I can get it anywhere up here or have to include it on my US shopping list.

Re: 8/23 Maggie AMPS 241; +3 174; +5 134; PMPS 194

Thanks Tamara, now if only her numbers would improve.

Barb & Checkers. I bought some of the kitty grass, and Mags likes it! It's called "Pet Greens Pet Grass" powered with Green Nutrition, it says. I would think it would be the same as your home grown grass. The sales person said after she done, add some water and refrigerate! :? Refrigerate grass - says on container, too!

Thanks, Wendy, on the vote for Pet Dophilus, third one.

Detective Poo and Chief Inspector Crapdash are very please with Ms Maggie's LB deposit! Perhaps you will need some calipers to measure all the parameters of poo? Paws crossed her numbers start to come down after this sweet relief!

When Zener was having serious motility issues early this year, we talked with our vet about cisipride and had a prescription for the compounding pharmacist. Karre of Karre & Maverick is the one who told us about it and how well it worked, I think. You may want to PM her. Once we got Zener on the miralax and got his other tummy issues settled with the ondansetron and cerenia, we didn't ever fill the prescription. I seem to recall our vet telling us recently that cisipride was off the market in the US. We read here in LL about using Zantac, which some cats take instead of pepcid, and it has a bit of GI motility action. There are generic forms of it that are very inexpensive and the dose is very small.
