Yesterday's condo

Well, China's being sweet (pun intended) and staying in numbers that make me feel OK about leaving her home to be at the hospital with mom. (although I could stand for them to be a little lower and still not worry)

Didn't go rushing over first thing this morning since I know the morning routine at hospitals is busy, and I'd just be in the way, so am heading over there now. My brother did make it over there last night, so she wasn't alone until she was asleep, and the nurses there know all of us very well, so do take very good care of her. We're all on pretty much a first name basis with the doctors and the nurses

Report from the nurses this morning is she's making better sense, but her blood pressure isn't coming down the way they'd expect it to considering the drugs they're giving her...but they're going to keep working on it throughout the day. The neurologist that saw her on the 15th dropped in and left scratching his head...he has no idea what could have happened in less than a week (since he saw her), much less in a 24 hour period to make such drastic changes in her BP as well as her cognitive abilities. He doesn't think that not taking her pills twice would have had this much effect on her BP or be causing this kind of confusion. She hadn't even started on the Nemenda he'd ordered (we'd had to wait for the pharmacy to get it) and he'd given her that to try to help with her memory (but at that time, she knew who she was..and who I was..and a lot more than she did yesterday)

They've gone ahead and started her on it today though, and are definitely going to keep her another day (at least)

Thanks again to all the visits, prayers, vines and hugs. You don't know how much it means to me.

I must have missed your post yesterday. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.

Missed seeing your post yesterday. Sending prayers for your DM and I hope that they find out the cause soon. It is so hard to cope with the aging of our parents, to care for them but maintain their independence and dignity. You will find a way.

Sending lots of good vines to your mom and good thoughts to you. This has got to be incredibly stressful. Take care of yourself, too.

Thanks again everyone for your visits, prayers and vines. Mom's doing better this afternoon, and they've got her blood pressure down from the 200's, so progress is being made, although it still has some dropping to do.

If it's not BG, it's BP...can't all the B's in my life just agree to be normal? (mini-rant over)

My useless son agreed to come visit and sit with her for awhile this afternoon (as long as I put gas in his car). I'm not saying he doesn't love his grandmother, because he really does, but everything with him seems to be "what can I get out of it" and after seeing this attitude his whole life, I'm sick of it...at 29, he really needs to grow up (by the way, he got this way because his grandparents could never tell him "no"...anything he ever wanted, they gave him so he thinks he's somehow entitled..I begged them to stop it, but they'd just do it behind my back)

Since he came to visit and sit, and I think my brother is supposed to come by after work, I grabbed the chance to go home and get some rest for myself. I can't keep this up forever.

China's doing great though...she's being quite cooperative in not adding to the drama :-D

Do wish she'd come down a little more into the blues anyway...while I'm so busy and gone, I'd feel OK with leaving her for longer periods than if she was green....there's time to work on that when my life settles down...whenever that happens.

Just the latest news for those who've been following. Mom's doing much better tonight, and they've started her on a patch for her blood pressure. They haven't said if they're sending her home on it, but it'll release medication for 3 days so hopefully would control her better than forgetting to take her pills.

That still doesn't explain the big difference in 24 hours time, but it would help with one problem if they do send her home before we can figure out how to make arrangements for her to either have someone in every day to help her, or move her into assisted living (that's my choice, but it's not fully my decision, and money is an issue)

Unfortunately, as a lot of elderly people, she's on a lot of other medications, and we can't use a patch for them all, so it's not a cure all.


China's being such a good girl...not adding any more stress to her momma :-D

I'm glad your mom's doing better.
I hope they can figure out what made such a drastic change in such a short time, and that you will come up with good plans for after she comes home.
China is such a good girl making her momma not worry about her, so you can take care of your momma.

I'm also glad your mom is doing better, Chris. Just a step at a time....

I'm sorry you haven't had much help from your son. I'm sure it's very stressful on told of everything else.
