Morning LL,

WCR Sara is doing good re peeing on the towel. The problem now is with her eating. I have'nt seen her eat in a couple days. She seems fine. I was thinking that she is connecting her eating with getting the pill. [baytril] I would pill her right after she eats because she should have food in her stomach with this pill. She is really hard to pill and it is very tramatic for her for me to have to pry her mouth open and shove a pill down. She would use her tongue to spit it out and I have to do it a few times before it goes down. I have given her food where she is resting and I think she eats some. I did'nt give her the pill last night and I'm going to the store to get pill pockets and try them. I did'nt buy them before because she won't eat it in a treat. It's amazing how good they smell.

Sorry this is so long. I am just stressed about this pilling. I have 2 more weeks left of it. Now when I give it to her I don't even know if shes got anything in her stomach. :-| Tuna juice won't work, nothing. If only she knew it would be so much easier on her if she would just eat it in a treat. I never wanted 2 weeks to go by so fast.

Have a good sunday.

How much/little is Sara eating? She's got to eat! You don't want to risk hepatic lipidosis so please keep track of how much she's eating.

If you can find the allergy formula Pill Pockets, they don't contain corn syrup so are FD friendly.

For the future, you might ask your vet if it's possible to get what's in a pill compounded into a liquid you can give orally or inject.

Sienne,

I know shes got to eat and I've been feeding her treats to get her to eat something. She has never done this before and I'm sure its pill related. I don't give it to her in the eating room [bathroom] anymore. In fact I have'nt given it to her today yet. She would'nt eat it in a pill pocket. I am going to ask the vet monday if they can have this compounded into a liquid so I could inject it. That would be heaven.
Thanks Sienne.

Sara is a smart one...like Raja. I agree that they put two and two together....when i was giving the liquid clavamox...I would have to leave the room so Raja would go over and eat. she just KNEW what was going to follow. I hated grabbing her after she finished...but we were only doing that for 2 weeks.
The day before the last day, she really squirmed in my arms. She was acting as if saying "I am SO done with this stuff!!!" I really feel for you knowing that she needs 2 more weeks of it!
Wondering if you could smash the pill and give it with a dropper or syringe? I never know about certain meds though so I hesitate to even mention it....is there a way you could find out if it can be crushed and given with water that way? She is still going to know you are coming with it though. That is something you can't change.
I had a problem finding those allergy Greenies locally but Sienne said they are made with duck and that Gabby really likes them.
Good luck Jan...I wish she would eat for you....different rooms was a good idea though....

Re: 8/22 Sara AM+4~151

She's sleeping on her sleeping bag and looking very content. I did slide her food bowl to her when she was behind the hutch and she ate a little. She has'nt had any of the baytril since yesterday morning so I don't think it should be making her feel sick. This is a nightmare. :-|

Oh I hate pilling (especially, my Ginger who pushes it with her tongue and rapidly starts biting with her teeth, crushing the pill in her mouth, and then all this yellow (or whatever color the pill was) foam starts coming out of her mouth). I know exactly how you feel that the longest weeks are the pilling weeks. Good luck getting the medicine compounded. If your vet hesitates, I would beg and cry and tell him/her she has to eat.

Re: 8/22 Sara AM+7~144

Shes running a little higher lately, could be stress. I just fed her about a tbs of wet food w/water and she ate it. At least she will still eat a little on her own.[if you give it to her] I do think she looks a little depressed. I'm keeping an eye on her, and am checking out fatty liver just in case. I'm going to check with the vet on a appetite stimulant also.

Dyana, I am very familar with the flashing tonuge and biting the pill and foaming. If they only knew how much harder they are making it on themselves. :?

Hi Jan, I can really relate to your pilling problem. How big are the baytril pills? I have discovered that I can give Stu his small pill fragment in a little bit of butter. He loves butter and eats the pill right along with it. Randi told me that she puts butter on Max's pills and pops them into his mouth. Since they are slippery from the butter, they go right down. Anyway, I hope that Sara will start eating better. Is there a food that she really loves much more than the other foods? Maybe try that special one!

Best of luck, and I hope those 2 weeks fly by!

I think if Sara wasnt eating much her numbers would be very low. This is what happened when Spike was on clavamox. It was upsetting his stomach and he only nibbled. I squish the pill in a piece of pill pocket and roll the rest of the poclet in little balls and leave in front of Princess (hard medicine taker) and walk away. As soon as Im gone she eats all thats there.

Janice, I just don't see her eat anymore. Usually she is always at one time or another going in and nibbling. She might be and maybe its not as much and I just don't see her. I am making sure she has something anyway since she will eat some if I put it in front of her. Some of her #'s have been a little higher lately.

Ella, Thanks for the well wishes. Butter though which I have been using, for me actually makes it harder. She won't eat it in anything. She can probley smell it and she has had bad experiences with it in her mouth soooo. The butter makes it kind of stick to my hand and I have trouble getting it far enough back. I may have to try it without again.

Dyana, Sara has a vet apt tuesday and I'm going to talk to her. Hopefully we can figure something out. I'm all for injecting it. I don't have a problem with that. :-D

Have a good night.
