Good day!

Tina loves her new Gabapentin. She started with a great PMPS yesterday after her first dose (about 123), but went up and stayed in the 150s instead of having a nice peak. I called Diamondback Drugs, and they did not have any info on carbs in those tasty little chews. So we will see how she does with her first cycle today.

Funny thing - my craziest civvie (tan/white "Al") has forced me to store the "treats" in a sealed container. He crawled up in the drug cabinet, so I moved them (they are already in their own container). Then he opened a drawer that I "hid" them in, so it became quite obvious what he was after! I've sealed and hidden in my closet, and closed the door. Al is still opening the drawer they were in, and scratching-searching for those goodies!

Wishing everyone the best day possible:bighug::cat::bighug:

Tina's vet prescribed these Gaba chews, so it is really going to bother me if it turns out they have any added carbs. From the chewiness you described, I bet they do. If the nadir this cycle is high, I won't be happy.

First thing, I'm calling that pharmacy again. I think I may have gotten a bad call taker. They advertise that you can talk directly to a pharmacist.

I did talk to a pharmacist this time, and there is a small amount of cornstarch added to make it taste good.

I missed it. What is she getting Gaba for?

I am so frustrated. Just called the vet's office and asked them to tell the doctor to change his prescription to specifically ask for the Gourmed version of the gaba, instead of the chewy little things with cornstarch that I received. First, she gagged and drooled with the chicken liquid gaba, so I asked my vet specifically about the Gourmed line after @Olive & Paula suggested them, and Ollie even comes running when the bottle is rattled. Those things I got sure don't rattle!

After a deep apology for not telling me Tina's glucose was over 500 in February; only being alerted in July, I would have expected a lot more, but keep being let down. I sure learned to always look at my pet's blood work, and never blindly trust. On a brighter note, her BG doesn't look greatly affected. But why add any carbs at all if you don't have to, geez.

Joy - Tina has spondylosis of the caudal lumbar spine, and collapse of the lumbosacral joint space at her right hip.
She is on .3 Metacam once a day, and the gabapentin is helping a lot more.

I never feel good about the Metacam, so she's on .3 when she might need more, but her kidneys are so important too.

ina has spondylosis of the caudal lumbar spine,

2 yrs ago I went to a chiropractor for my shoulder. He took a routine X Ray of my spine. He asked if I was in severe pain. I told him no, why? He said I had nothing between my vertebrae. It was bone on bone from my neck all the way down! Severe Spondylosis.

I told him I do Yoga for over 15 years, exercise & walk a lot. I never sit for more than 20 mins. I've stayed very active .( I'll be 73 in a few weeks) I take Curcumin 2 times a day & have no pain at all in my spine.:pHe was "Amazed"

I give my Kitties a pinch of Curcumin along with fish oil & CBD in a feeding syringe. Peggy Sue has Oral cancer. She does not get anything besides her supplements & she's eating good & even playing a bit! As long as it's working I'll continue to NOT give Pharmaceuticals!

Do they know what caused Tina's problems?

Joy, I have almost every condition Tina has, and am in pretty good health believe it or not! That's part of the reason I have a lot of hope for Tina.

I've been a T1 diabetic for 40 years. I have slight kidney and heart disease, and several herniated discs in my neck. Had a fusion at C6-7, and 3 spinal injections. After NSAIDS damaged my stomach, I finally found liquid Tumeric and take it daily, and follow all my neck PT. I'm a believer in essential oil use for myself.
Tina does not like fish oil. I should revisit that though. I can find some CBC oil . . . Do you have a recommendation? I also give her pre/probiotics, and a kidney rejuvenator, from Amber Technologies, from my local pet health food store.

I walk my dog every morning, which gives me the boost I need to start the day.

Tina was always very nimble and active. She has a nice outdoor enclosure she can no longer use. We have coyotes close by - no outdoor kitty is safe.
Older age is the only explanation I've gotten. I wonder if too much jumping and leaping from step to step could have hurt. I will be turning the outdoor enclosure into a senior cat house, with much closer steps and ramps.
Oh, I did get some curcumin for Tina and she doesn't like it. I love turmeric chicken; not her.

Turmeric supplements, quality ones, are very good for your health. Anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory (I have IBS and they help tremendously), anti-viral (same). However I did not know you could give them to cats!!!! Amazing.

I agree completely. I need to try again to put a little bit of the Turmeric powder I bought, in Tina's food. I think we all know how discerning cats can be. And they don't all like it!
