Was able to get a ketone test - the first time I stuck the wrong end under him so I quickly grabbed another. It registered between negative and trace! I am picking up some B-12 shots for him on Thursday so we can strengthen those long white legs. I noticed that while he was pounding Bing on the head with one paw the other leg was trembling. I need him to stay strong so he can continue to keep Bing in line. It's so much fun to watch.

Hope Sno can stay in the sunshine and maybe go for a splash.

Robin, hope the B12 works.

Just an FYI from my perspective. The shots didn't work for Scratchie - I found they were giving him the human form and that doesn't work as well on our kitties - so I used the Methylcadmium (hope that's spelled right) that you get from the health store. It's expensive but his neuropathy cleared up in 58 days and that was last year! He's still going strong with no problems.

Yep - the rescue representive is giving me the B-12 shots. She has three diabetic fosters of her own. I can't wait to show her pictures of Snoball's new little paunch. Last time she saw him he was emaciated - poor thing. Insulin is a marvelous drug!

Must be that wonderful gourmet, home-made raw food diet you prepare and serve in your fine dining establishment that has plumped Snoball back up to a healthy weight. You may have to start watching the portion control if he starts having too many jiggley bits. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

That's funny Deb - yep, I am reducing his portions now (not frequency) because I don't do obese... I have never had a fat cat, even when I was feeding them all that bad stuff. Now they all look muscular and healthy and I just got my 13 year old crack (dry food) addict to eat raw! It only took six months!!

I don't really know how much he should weigh. He's nearing 11 pounds now and at 9 pounds the vet said he was not emaciated but skinny. He is a big cat - really long legs, big head. His swat puts Bing to shame! So, I am not sure what a good weight for him might be - 12, 13, 14 pounds?

Check with the vet on his weight next time you go, they are like human doctors, always want you on the low side of normal for health. If his weight for build is like 12-14lbs, he's safer on 12 for his health. Just like us.

Lord knows, I hear it from my DR! Or did, until I got sick and lost 70 lbs, now he wants me to add a few. Make up my mind! :lol:

Some larger cats with heavier bone structure need a bit more weight. My Lucian is slim at 10, at 11 he's starting to get 'full', at 14 he's fat! Been there done that. Most of his life he's been between 10-11, perfect for him. He is fine boned, almost delicate in his structure. He and the others, since he was the youngest, got fat when he quit playing. When I got Patches as a kitten, the other 3 were 14,18,20lbs at 8,10,12 yrs old. In 6 months, they were all at a healthy weight again, she literally RAN the fat off them. :lol: With as much time as I put in with 2 jobs, I didn't have time or energy to play, she took care of it. Now she's getting thick. Won't be long, I may have to look for another kitten to be personal trainer. ;-)
 
Got home late so he was shot late. Couldn't be helped. I can have nothing to do all day at work and then at 5 it all explodes. It's like a firehouse....

Then I bent the needle giving him his shot and am not sure it went in although I don't smell or feel any insulin in his fur. Then I stuck my finger trying to get the sheath back on the bent needle. Calling it a night before I hurt someone.

I don't think that's why his pmps was higher, I think he and Cedric ordered Dominos and had a party. I heard there was an unspayed calico running around. :o You know how they are?!?! :lol: Party girls! dancing_cat

(too bad no one warned her, our boys aren't interested :lol: :lol: )


I guess Lucian was the only one sticking to his diet at the party, I'm shocked! :shock: :lol: Glad he stuck with the hot wings. :thumbup
 
A party!!!! Oh my... that must be it. I think Snoball was a table scrap eater in his previous home so if there was a party, he was the one at the Dorito table - yikes. They need to learn dicipline and restraint from Lucian. I found some cricket legs around the house so I am still looking for the rest of the critter. I keep telling them that if they drag it in and kill it - they have to eat it. Not just the birds but the insects and rodents too. Don't leave them on my white bathroom rug for me to deal with.

Geez, I picked up the B-12 last night from the foster rep and sure enough the first ingredient is a long word that starts with "cad" instead of "meth" and the bottle says it's Veterinary. So I am not giving it to my Sno. I really like this rescue person but I still can't get her to believe that pea flour in the treats she uses means that they are probably high carb. She has a diabetic who has remission numbers but the minute she goes off the insulin, her numbers go up... I wonder if the pea flour is keeping this kitty on insulin. Oh well, I don't want to push it with her cause she really is knowledgeable and a super cat lover. Anyway, I guess I will have to source the proper B-12 myself.
