I am leaving at AM +3 tomorrow (8/21) and will be back at about AM +11 Saturday (8/23). My pet sitter will shoot four cycles: Thursday PM, Friday AM, PM, and Saturday AM. She will not be testing; Polly won't cooperate with ear sticks from someone else.

Any advice for dose during the four cycles I'm gone. (I'd like to avoid .25 units. My pet sitter is great but I'd like to reduce her stress, too!)

Polly will have lc food available (free fed) throughout my absence; she will, I'm confident still eat at preshot. She's a gobbler!

This AM started Polly's 5th cycle at 9.0.

hi marilyn!

let's see how she does by tomorrow afternoon, but i'd be inclined to go with either the current 9.0u, or if it makes you nervous, just go back to 8.0u. I'm saying that because she hasn't really gone down in a dose at any point yet, so i'd anticipate she's going to need to go up before long.

there's nothing that would make me think she might go low. But . . . for absolute safety, and so you don't worry, maybe the 8.0u would be best.

Let's get sienne to weigh in. She has lots of experience with leaving Gabby while she travels for work.

I don't have specific dosing advice and I've never had a petsitter watch Trix since she's been diabetic, but I know one good tip I've seen others use: Fill a syringe with colored liquid to the dose you want the petsitter to shoot - maybe even take a picture of it and leave it with the colored-liquid syringe, too. Your petsitter can refer to the colored-liquid syringe when she's drawing Polly's dose. Frighteningly, there can be confusion about how much "1 unit" might be to someone who isn't experienced, so the reference syringe will help eliminate that.

I don't have any dose advice. I hope your trip goes well and Polly cooperates with the petsitter for her shots.

Gabby is like Polly -- no one but me gets to test. Looking at Polly's SS, I like Julie's suggestion. Dropping the dose to 8.0u should keep Polly safe. When you get back home, bring the dose back up to your usual 9.0u.

I'd also leave a sample syringe for your petsitter. It's something that I've done to avoid any problems with measuring a dose.
 
Have a great trip! Polly, stay safe while your Mamabean is away. Very nice that you have a pet sitter who will give shots. :-D

Enjoy your holiday Marilyn. Polly will be safe and will get back on track quickly enough when you are back.
