Trixie is back into lovely numbers, and I am thrilled! Fingers crossed she'll set a spell here!

Zen ate a nice, normal-sized breakfast all on his own this morning! Of course it wasn't ideal food: a mix of Orijen kibbles and Mario's K/D kibbles, but it was food none-the-less, and he didn't need any coaxing or assistance. Naturally, though, I'm still a bundle of nerves; this was just one meal, but hopefully he's back on track. He's behaving more normally, but still not 100%. And he's being a little weird about being petted. Normally he's a cat who can't get enough attention. While he is back to asking for attention, he's kind of ducking when I pet or scratch him. I'm wondering if that's a side-effect of the mirtazapine.

Petey, on the other hand, is still hissing and growling at Zen. Whenever someone comes home from the vet, they always get hissed at by Petey and Noah, but it usually only lasts an hour. The growling this morning was pretty scary...I spent a good chunk of time trying to comfort and calm him down. I hope this doesnt' turn into anything major!

I believe Zen's bloodwork should be back sometime today. I'll let you know when I hear!

Thanks again...your support and help is greatly, greatly appreciated!

Amy

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

Morning Amy, great report!

The mirtz really worked well with Simon, only gave him the one dose a few weeks ago (still have the rest of the pill he was sent home with).
He did have some behavior change with it, mostly vocalization (LOUD meowing) and was super affectionate. It really worked appetite-wise.
I wouldn't worry (ecid), behaviour was back to normal after about 48 hours, and he kept eating. He didn't get hissed at, but there were many
"what's up with him?" looks from the others, especially the first day.

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

Thanks for the input, Bruce! This is my first experience with mirtz, so I'm a bit nervous. Hopefully Petey will remember that Zen is his brother (literally - they're littermates!) soon!!!

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

I've used both mirtazepine and cyproheptadine with Gabby. There were no behavioral changes.

When they ran Zen's bloodwork, do you know if the vet ran an fPLI? I'm wondering whether this could be pancreatitis.

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

She ran a senior blood panel...I don't know if that includes an fPLI or not. I'll be sure to ask when she calls with the results. Pancreatitis had crossed my mind, too. The only thing that throws me off a bit on that is his appetite disappeared the same day he started with the heavy-duty snuffling, and he didn't show any signs of discomfort while she was palpating his abdomen. But I'll get more info from her (hopefully) later today.

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

When cats can't smell their food they sometimes will stop eating also. Are you giving him lysine for the sniffles also?

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

great news on both trixie and zen! hopefully the oogie vetty smell on zen will go away very soon!

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

Hi guys .. so glad to hear zen ate well and that trixie is back into prettier numbers! Hope the hissing stops soon .. we get a lot of that around here after vet trips too ..sometimes it lasts for days .. have a great day!

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

Come on now Petey, be nice!

Very happy to see that Zen ate. Sure it's kibbles but it's better than nothing at this point. I remember when we were kids, mom was too tired to make us breakfast so we'd have cake before we got to school. It's better than nothing! And it has breakfast things in it anyway like eggs and milk so cake should be counted as breakfast! :-D

Re: 8/2 Trixie AMPS 108 +2 91/Zen ate!

I hope Zen continues to eat with no more problems. Thank goodness Trixie is such a sweetie....she's keeping her good numbers going so you don't have to worry about her too right now!!

Re: 8/2 Trixie PMPS 95 +1 88/Zen ate!

Trixie's first green pre-shot in nearly a month! Keep it flat now, Trix, keep it flat!

I'm sure you guys are familiar with this feeling: the closer it got to the end of the workday, the bigger the knot in my stomach got. I was getting more and more worried that I would come home to a Zen that wouldn't eat. I was happy to see he was waiting for me by the laundry room door! He's had a couple decent rounds of dinner so far (my cats love to drag meals out over the course of hours!), but he'll still only primarily eat Mario's K/D. I went through this K/D thing with Zen once before, so I have a feeling it's going to take me a while to convince him otherwise. He also played a little bit of "peek-a-boo" with me, which he hadn't done since last week...I peek around the corner, say his name, and he chirps back. Yes, it's quite adorable if I do say so myself! He's definitely not 100% still, but he seems to be making progress.

I have not gotten the test results back from the vet yet, though. I'm hoping she'll call this evening.
