Hi all,

Previous:
8/5 - Pookey - Enjoying our days

Overall, things are good.

He has been a little weird about eating. Sometimes he will make this crunching sound like he’s chewing dry food after he’s done. But the food is a slurry… I wonder if it’s just getting stuck in his teeth? Really hope he’s not having a dental problem…

He does have a little acne bump on his chin too, even though it’s all stainless bowls and plates. I have to clean them better. Otherwise, I’m trying to correlate it to the flavor, brand, me being home or away, feeding location, temperature, and I can’t quite nail it down.

His weight is steady so maybe he’s just being a cat?

Have a great week and hope the transition back here wasn’t too bad.

- Tim

Glad to see a Pookey update :)

Civvie had acne once. No bump, just the black specks on her chin. It turned out she had developed a chicken allergy. She hasn't had acne since switching to rabbit.

If you look in that second picture on the side of his back, he does have a hot spot (we've been calling it his racing stripe) where he's been grooming. And it doesn't seem like an arthritis groom spot, so maybe it is an allergy. If only I could get him to eat these expensive novel proteins...

Try rabbit and kanagaroo. Koha has both but the rabbit is often out of stock and the kanagaroo is only available in the 5oz can size. Rayne has both that is supposed to be good for sensitive tummies. I've never tried the brand with Leroy.

How about brushtail or alligator?

Pookey you need to be more like Leroy and eat the yummy food in your bowl 😺

Oh I’m sorry to hear you’re having some challenges with Pookey’s eating ❤️‍🩹
Do you have any reason for a vet visit (they come to you, right?)
I hope no issues for sweet Pookey🍀🍃🍀🍃🍀

No problem getting back on here, Tim 🎉🥳👏🏻

Nice to see Pookey's sweet face! :bighug:

Noogi had cat acne too. It's often food allergies but not always. We treated with a 50/50 mix of and aqueous cream and this stuff (I'm sure you can find similar product your part of the world). Tiny dollop rubbed into the area once a day for seven days. Maybe something you can consider if swopping out Pookey's diet doesn't clear it up.

I also clean Noogi's face for him every couple of day with a damp cottonwool pad. He does groom himself, just not very thorough, so I help him out.

Thanks Staci! Yes, good memory, our vet does come to the house. He’s due for bloodwork in another month or so. Loving the Ivy and her stairs pics recently :bighug:

That doesn’t sound too bad. Great idea about cleaning too, I have noticed sometimes the food gets caught up on his chin, especially now without the two canines. Thanks Helen :bighug:

Are you familiar with "whisker fatigue"? Yes, it's a thing, caused by having to eat out of these small bowls and having their whiskers touch the sides constantly. Plates are better. If he's having difficulty eating, anything to increase comfort may be helpful. For an elderly cat, lifting the plate by putting something under it might make it easier to eat.

A drop of vitamin E liquid on his food might help improve skin and coat.

Thanks Joanne! Could be that! That’s my one complaint with the auto feeder we have. The opening is like 4” x 6”. Little small. Haven’t heard of vitamin E liquid either…
