Hope you all had a good weekend!

It's been one week since Maddy has had any insulin. I've been tinkering a bit with her feeding times to see if I can keep her below 120 for a longer portion of the day. I'll be contacting her vet to see how he thinks we should proceed, but in a previous conversation he told me that he feels treatment is successful if we can keep her below 200 most of the time. Her numbers are a bit higher than other cats around here who are OTJ. Would a small amount of insulin help get her lower? Should I wait another week?

Maddy has been happy and seems to be feeling well. Generally, I give her 1/2 can of Fancy Feast Classic at her AMPS, +6, PMPS, and a frozen half can at +2. She continues to eat the frozen fancy feast when I put it out for her before bed (no matter how much "frosting" I put on it). I'm starting to lean toward getting the automatic feeder so that she can get the food at the proper time. She also got a water fountain this morning, which she is pretty excited about.

She could probably use a tiny bit of insulin to drop those preshots numbers but I'd start with a mere drop because of how low she brings herself down. Although first I'd rule out any source of infection or pain as both will raise BGs. The leading culprit is teeth. So how are her toofies? If she could use a dental just getting her mouth cleaned up could finish dropping her into OTJ status.

Otherwise the easiest way to give a mere drop is to push the plunger down hard and hold it when you put it into the pen or vial then let it flex back into place that will consistencely give you a drop.

Maddy's numbers looked like Mona's did when I first made the switch to wet food. They were sooo close to normal! I ended up giving her a just the tiniest drop (using the instructions Mel gave) for a few weeks and though it didn't seem like it could make a huge difference, it was enough to get her OTJ and in the normal range completely after not too long at all. I hope things go the same for Maddy!

Thanks for the advice, Mel. And thank you for the encouragement, Katie and Nadine.

Maddy had a dental cleaning in March. The vet didn't have to remove any teeth and didn't mention any issues, so I think it's safe to say that her teeth aren't elevating her levels. I'm still waiting to hear back from the vet, but I agree that giving her a drop of insulin might help push her numbers lower and increase her chances of getting OTJ.

One more question, is there any "no shot" limit for just a drop of Lantus? In the past, I haven't been shooting her if she's below 150, but that guideline doesn't seem to apply in this situation.

I won't shoot a cat that's bringing themselves down like Maddy unless they are over 100 and preferably over or close to 120
