Hi Everyone,

First of all I would like to thank everyone who gave us suggestions on how to get Clavamox into Rusty (liquid or pill; we tried them both). It was hopeless! He fights like a wildcat and will not open his mouth for anything, even when the pills were wrapped in turkey or cheese or pill pockets. (I think his mouth was damaged early in his life. When he was found on the streets of Plymouth MA in 2008 he had 10 broken teeth that had to come out.)
So after about 1/2 hour of attempts to give Clavamox this morning, we went back to the vet and Rusty got a shot of Convenia. It probably is not as effective as Clavamox for pneumonia, but it is an antibiotic. I worried about the allergy issue that we here on the board always discuss (Convenia lasts in the body for 2 weeks, so if the cat is allergic to it, there is no way to get it out), but decided that at this point it is our only option. Rusty, of course, took his shot without protest and since then has been OK. No signs of allergic reaction. Fingers crossed that it will cure his pneumonia. He sure is strong, and I think his body is strong, too (vet thinks so, too).

So today I waited around all day for the title documents for my new car. They were supposed to have been overnighted yesterday from Vermont. Naturally there was a glitch. So since we are leaving on Sunday for a week at camp, I arranged to go back to Burlington tomorrow morning and pick them up myself. That way I can go to the NY State Dept. of Motor Vehicles in the afternoon and complete the process. What an aggravation! I took the opportunity to mow the grass!

Rusty is eating pretty well today. I haven't gotten the Ultimate Flora probiotic yet, but will do so tomorrow. I hope it is tastless so that I can put it in his food. In the meantime I am sprinkling his food with FortiFlora.

Wishing all of you a good evening. Thanks again for all your help.

Convenia isn't always ideal, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I know Michelle had to use it with Mannie a few times and it worked out fine.

I've been having registration issues, too! After driving my beloved 2001 PT Cruiser for 17.5 years, last month we finally broke down and bought a new Kia Soul (I need quirky cars!). The temporary tag expired today...with no news from good ole NJ DMV about the registration. Argh. The issue goes back to Kia Financing, who didn't like that we put down a hefty downpayment - that held things up with financing and titling, and therefore registration. Fortunately, just under the wire, our salesman issued a new temporary tag until DMV provides the registration. Way to keep us on our toes!

Appy and feel better vines for Rusty!!

Whew, I've been waiting for your condo! Amy took the words out of my mouth, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. Tiger had convenia shots twice as well, for a UTI. Our vet did the cystocentyesis and said convenia was going to be effective for her UTI. The first shot, I knew nothing of the warnings against convenia. But the 2nd time Tiger needed it, she was so sick already there was no way I was going to give her clavamox so I agreed to the shot, luckily with no ill effects. Sending our strongest healing vines for Sir Rusty, hope he is eating again!!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Side note, congrats on your new car! I used to work for an insurance company, and I know New York was a nightmare to add a car, all kinds of mistakes made with registration and huge fines and such!:eek: Hope you can get it all sorted out tomorrow!

The problem was Vermont, not NY!
Great to hear from you, Ruth. We old timers have to keep in touch!
Hugs and scritches,

my crazy dh... today we went and bought a subaru outback.... ski season isn't far off....

I forgot to add yesterday that it might be a good idea to add a humidifier to your bedroom for Rusty....
at least that's what I read with respiratory issues and clavamox....

My vet has used Convenia for over twenty years and never had a cat have a reaction. All my kitties up to now have had it. They looked at me like I was crazy when I asked them not to use it after I joined here and learned about it. I am going to ask that they not give it to the kittens when they go for their spay and neuter next week, but I'm sure they'll disagree with me. I hate to argue with them, because they are really wonderful to us in every way.

I hope Rusty is feeling better soon and eating well. Sending healing and appy vines.

If there are other options, I think we all agree that Convenia isn't worth the risk, but if you can't get anything else into the cat, it's a lot better than doing nothing!!

Hopefully it does the trick and makes Rusty feel better soon and kicks that pneumonia to the curb!!

Bummer had Convenia once and I was so upset when the vet told me what he had given him ( I forgot to tell him NO to Convenia) He did just fine on it. I believe if there is going to be an allergic reaction to it, it is usually within the first 24 hours. Fingers and Paws crossed for Rusty.

Have you tried putting the crushed pills into a tiny bit of food for him to eat? That works with my boys............then I am not trying to force something on them, they have the control. Your probably have tried everything.......

Hope the Convenia does the trick for Rusty. I shove pills in treats (Orijen is pretty good for this) or use just a tiny bit of a Pill Pocket. Sometimes I will use a teensy bit of a Pill Pocket to "glue" the pill to a different treat, like Pure Bites.

I hope the shot helps Rusty feel better!
In Ontario (not sure about the rest of Canada) the dealership where you buy the car takes care of everything re registering the new ownership!
That's true here in NY, too. But I bought my car in Vermont. Everything got taken care of today.

thanks, everyone. Rusty did pretty well today (according to Edward; I was in Vermont getting the car title settled).

Tired tonight. It got very humid and warm (because of the hurricane out there on the coast).

Sending more vines for Rusty to feel better.

And congratulations on your new car! Standard shift rocks. ❤:bighug:
