Hi Everyone,
First of all I would like to thank everyone who gave us suggestions on how to get Clavamox into Rusty (liquid or pill; we tried them both). It was hopeless! He fights like a wildcat and will not open his mouth for anything, even when the pills were wrapped in turkey or cheese or pill pockets. (I think his mouth was damaged early in his life. When he was found on the streets of Plymouth MA in 2008 he had 10 broken teeth that had to come out.)
So after about 1/2 hour of attempts to give Clavamox this morning, we went back to the vet and Rusty got a shot of Convenia. It probably is not as effective as Clavamox for pneumonia, but it is an antibiotic. I worried about the allergy issue that we here on the board always discuss (Convenia lasts in the body for 2 weeks, so if the cat is allergic to it, there is no way to get it out), but decided that at this point it is our only option. Rusty, of course, took his shot without protest and since then has been OK. No signs of allergic reaction. Fingers crossed that it will cure his pneumonia. He sure is strong, and I think his body is strong, too (vet thinks so, too).
So today I waited around all day for the title documents for my new car. They were supposed to have been overnighted yesterday from Vermont. Naturally there was a glitch. So since we are leaving on Sunday for a week at camp, I arranged to go back to Burlington tomorrow morning and pick them up myself. That way I can go to the NY State Dept. of Motor Vehicles in the afternoon and complete the process. What an aggravation! I took the opportunity to mow the grass!
Rusty is eating pretty well today. I haven't gotten the Ultimate Flora probiotic yet, but will do so tomorrow. I hope it is tastless so that I can put it in his food. In the meantime I am sprinkling his food with FortiFlora.
Wishing all of you a good evening. Thanks again for all your help.
