hi Pam
what are you using to get the blood? my vet showed me a pretty good trick . i put a smear of vaseline on his ear: just a little bit not a blob of it. it helps the blood to bead up and not get absorbed by the fur on his ear. then i prick the ear with a 20 gauge terumo ultra thin wall needle. they are pretty cheap for a pack of 100. this is the link http://www.thrivingpets.com/index.php/t ... f-100.html

it works way better than a lancet for me. these are the same needles i use for sub q fluids. hope this helps you

also are u sticking him just on the edges of the ear where the vein runs? let me know if you need it, i can make you a video to show exactly where to stick to get the blood easier

I was having a hell of a time with Obie getting blood. I used the lancet, and still do.
But, what really really really made the difference was holding the warm rice sock on his ear for at least a minute before you lance it to make sure it is good and warm.
I can usually get a pretty good blood dot on most first tries now.
Also,I give him the same food portion but I water it down into a thick soup that not only slows him down eating it and adds more liquid but makes his head less jerky from having to chew so much and
gives me more time to get the blood and shoot him up. Getting him to lay down and eat makes it a far easier thing too.
