Who says acros can't surf green? Actually most acros should not be allowed to surf green on low carb food, because they have a functioning pancreas and low carb food can stimulate the pancreas and make them drop even more. I hadn't noticed that response previously in Jazzy, so today at +6 I fed LC to see where it took her. It took her surfing! It seems like, at least for now, Jazzy is safe in green. That said, I did reduce tonight because I'm going back to work tomorrow and I don't want to push it too hard. I know (or at least I think I know) that Jazzy will not go OTJ, so I don't have to keep her in the healing numbers <120, I just need to keep her below renal threshhold.
Also, the other true joy (ha!) of acromegaly is that things can change on a moment's notice, so you never really know whether the good numbers are coming from liking the dose, or from a change in the tumor's output. It's generally not a good idea to push acros too low because if it is a decrease in GH output, it would be really hard to get control of the numbers again. It would be the equivalent of overdosing a normal diabetic cat, even if it was a dose that was perfectly fine for the acro the day before.
WCR: Jazzy's attitude is improving along with her numbers. She purrs a lot more, plays a little, and is generally more social. She has decided she doesn't mind Mickey (civvie) too much, because he ignores her. She still doesn't care for Sammy and Lucy though.
