Good morning!
Boomer left some of his +3, all of his +6, and I don't think he would have eaten his +9 if I hadn't got up and fed it to him  All 3 meals had fortiflora in them so I guess it's lost it's appeal already. Back to sticking a treat at the bottom of each dish!

AMBG 77 :D:D:D:D
Ok so I guess I'll start calling this what it is...and OTJ Trial (anti jinx) lol

This Bean is tired today and the back of my legs (read bum here) hurt from all the squatting/crouching that I did during the newborn session yesterday  Today on the agenda.....editing :p I'm really far behind as it's been a busy busy 2 weeks! However, I do get to go downtown and have lunch with a friend of mine which will give me a break from editing for a couple of hours :D I've decided that if I can get enough editing done today and tomorrow (I have another newborn session tomorrow) then on the weekend I'll give myself a break and go on a short road trip somewhere (anywhere is ok lol). I ordered and received a brand new camera on Saturday and I haven't had time to learn how to use it and I definitely can't do a portrait session with it until I'm more comfy with it; it's quite different from my other two lol.

Happy Day 6! Go Boomer!

Enjoy your lunch with a friend.

Hurray!!! Happy to see the OTJ there and good work Boomer. Doodles like the fortiflora long ago but it was short lived and doesn't go near it now. Eat your fuds Boomer, you need to stay big and strong. Enjoy lunch and the new camera!

Awesome start for Boomer! He's really rocking this OTJ trial. :D

Hope you'll have a productive two days. A road trip sounds lovely. This is my last weekend before the new semester starts and I am trying to figure out what I should do this weekend. ...but, then again, Walter probably has his own ideas about what I can and can't do.

Oh my! I've been so caught up in my own troubles I didn't realize Boomer had been skipping shots! How exciting!

Go Boomer! Go Boomer! Go Boomer! Go Boomer! Go Boomer! Go Boomer!

I know you already know all this, but just to make it official, here are the Trial instructions:

Start the trial on the next green pre shot.

If he/she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time; just feed small meals and go about your day. If he/she is blue at your normal "PS", feed a small meal and test again after about 3 or 4 hours. If his/her number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then the pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. He/she may have a sporadic blue number.

Don't panic but post before you decide whether to shoot so we can have a discussion.

After 14 days of no insulin, we have a party!!

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens; we just give him/her the support needed. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

Good luck with the trial!!!

Once he/she is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

Thanks Tricia!
The trial was totally unplanned and just happened because Boomer went in for a dental and afterwards his BG was low enough that I didn't shoot. And it's continued to be low! So I just started calling it a Trial today; I guess I was afraid of jinxing it!
