Tiger is gradually doing better-yay! There is something in Friskies seafood that seems to build up and cause him neurologic problems-my best guess. So glad it seems to be an easy enough fix. Tracking and treating neuro problems can be difficult/expensive/impossible! Adding the B12 again for good measure.

Thank you all for your help and support!:cat:

I definitely will stay away from Friskies & Fancy Feast if I can when we try switching to LC wet.

Both seem to be so inconsistent in quality.

Glad he's doing better!

I’m so glad he’s improving. I wonder if there could be mercury in the fish? I don’t know what kind of fish it is.

Interesting that it's the seafood flavor causing it. I've read that some fish contain thiaminase that destroys thiamine, a B vitamin and causes neuropathy: https://feline-nutrition.org/nutrition/thiamine-in-a-raw-meat-diet. This is why it's suggested not to feed cats any fish, but apparently thiaminase is not present in salmon or cod so those might be safer.
Supposedly the quality of the fish is ok in Friskies. No mercury poisoning. But I don't know about the thiaminase. He does seem to be able to eat FF fish!
Thank you Katherine! I will check out the link!:bighug:

I've been thinking about this and wondering if Friskies seafood might be lower in B vitamins than Tiger needs. You might want to think about doing a B complex in addition to B12. There's lots of good info on the felinecrf.org site about B vitamins. She even says on it that cats who eat seafood often develop thiamine deficiencies: https://felinecrf.org/vitamin_b.htm.

Thank you again Katherine! You are so sweet to spend your time on research to share!!! We appreciate you! I am reading the other site you linked and then will look at this one!! Awesome info!

Given that Tiger seems to do better with B12 (do you use the Zobaline which also has folate?). I would start him on a B-complex (I think Katherine suggested this as well). I use the Jarrow B-Right B-Complex (which is mentioned on Tanya’s felinecrf site) and divide it up into ten small gelatin capsules (size 4). I bought a set of very tiny spoons from Amazon for the purpose because otherwise it is almost impossible! It is a bit of a messy operation anyway. I put down a piece of wax paper (or foil if you don’t have wax paper) and my son invented a little stand for me out of 4 pieces of LEGO, two flat pieces and two regular pieces put together into a rectangle. The back side of the LEGO holds the number 4 gelcaps perfectly in the little holes (and size 3, which is larger, fits in between the holes). That’s more than you ever wanted to know about it. They sell little holders for gelcaps on Amazon, too. So I spoon it into ten size 4 gelcaps. It’s worth a try. A lot of older cats have trouble absorbing B vitamins anyway- and they play so many important roles in our bodies (heart, brain, nervous system, red blood cell production, skin).
