I am a little confused as to what to do here....
after the dental he was getting almost all yellow preshots and looking good
Saturday night I had the sitter come in...Dont know what the hell happened
but I came home to a cat that was not fed, shot up, but apparently missed because he was in the
300's all night! talk about pissed ( i tested him about 3 hours after the supposed shoot up)
I raised his does a little the next morning to make up for his missed shot..
since then I am all pink preshots!!! WHAT THE HELL!!!!!
Could he have hypoed in the first hour or two and bounced after the 2 hours all the way to the 300;s
because this @$&*#(%&@#()& did not feed him?

should I lower the dose a little to see what happens....

Thanks for any advice

Densie and Shakes

Shakes liked the 3,0 better than anything higher. I would:

1-Go back to 3.0 and see if he returns to liking that dose and giving you some more blues
2- Find a new sitter.

Yeah, I'd say get a new sitter! I think I would go back to 3 units....but I can't even figure out what to do with my own cat so take my advice with a grain of salt!

I agree with Carl's advice--get a new sitter. If they can't do any better than that, I guess I won't worry too much about Alex missing a shot this weekend.

The ironic thing is that she works in a vets office as a vet tech
and her father is the vet!!
Yes Ginny I am also starting to think that maybe it is best to be a few hours late with a shot and shoot
a reduced dose, rather than subject Shakes to this!
Thanks Carl, I was definately thinking that!
I think I will go down to 3 units and see what happens
my only other question ...was his numbers still better because of pain pills
and the anestisia maybe still being in his system?

Well, I think pain raises BG, so it's possible. But I don't have any experiences with pain meds and insulin at the same time. Hopefully someone who has got it will see this and chime in.

Carl

Hey Denise!

Definitely get a new $%&*#@& sitter! And for the record, I hate this $#@#%^ ing dance also!

Pain and inflamation definitely can raise BGs, so the pain pills could have been helping keep Shakes numbers lower.

Good Luck!

Well, that's just lovely! I read on this board somewhere about a cat that was boarded at the vets, he left his son in charge of the animals overnight & the son seriously overdosed this persons cat. The cat didn't die then but eventually did...I don't remember if they ended up having to PTS or not. It was horrible...she is somewhere in MD. It's so scary that most vets just don't know about diabetes!

Its very scary to leave your cat in someone's hands that don't know or don't care what they are doing.
I think of poor Rocky and what happened to him at the hands of his former owner.
Its hard to know who to trust.
Denise, I thought Henry would be better after the dental but he actually was high and flat right after for awhile. He still is high in the morning, but the pattern seems to have broken but that was for 3 weeks after. So give him some time, he might just take a little longer.
Hope he starts giving you some better numbers. I hope Shakes walking will keep improving; Henry's walking is a lot better, he has even tried to run after the other cats and been throwing his toys arounf and chasing them.
