Hi, well, I hate to even be asking for help so soon, after OTJ, but on 8/14 I gave Daphne her first "full dose" of Adequan. (I gave her a half dose on 8/10, with no change to her BGs). I tested before I gave it, and her BG was 65, but the next morning her BG was 142, the highest its been since OTJ. It has to be the Adequan, we changed nothing else.

I don't know what to do, should I wait till its out of her system, (don't know how long it will be)? I'm so afraid that if I don't bring the numbers down, her liver will think that they are great numbers, normal numbers, and there goes the OTJ, and the whole thing starts all over again.

This is so upsetting, I really have very little of anything left inside me to start over, my physical health is not so good, and I have even more things going on now with it… I'm pretty freaked out, and so depressed about this. I hope there is some hope to save this OTJ.

More hugs for you, (((Barbara))). I have not noticed any change to J.D.'s BGs when giving Adequan to him.
I would test again right before the next feeding time and then again 4 hours later to see if she is bringing herself down.

Don't freak out Barb! The situation might not be that worse. I don't have the answer either but I am sure somebody can help.

I agree with Dyana. Test around her PMBG time and then feed, and then test three hours after and see what she's doing.

Ditto what Marje said.

There can be any number of reasons for BG to spike. Something may have frightened or stressed Daphne. I wouldn't be concerned unless there's a pattern. It's only one number.

Thanks you everyone… I should have said, its been a few days. Here are her numbers from after the dose of Adequan.
8/15 AM 142, +8 101, +9 98, PM +4 144, +6, 97
8/16 AM 144, +9 110, PM 139

I feed after each test, with larger meal at AM and PM, then I wait 3 hours, and test. (no test at +3 in the AM yet). The PM 139 was never a Daphne number, and the PM +4 144, was never a Daphne number either.

I'll test in a half hour to see her +3 tonight.

NOT TO WORRY!! Moonie's numbers were up slightly also after the Adequan shots--Tomorrow is her last one..so we can both check it out! If I had My SS up to date(MY BAD) you could see, but YES, if I gave her a shot of adequan in the am, her PMPS was up---
Barb please dont worry, I see the Adequan is Helping Moonie!! & It will help Daphne...I am happy with it..
Hugs to You please dont freak out...It's ok she will be fine--Why did you give only 1/2 the dose??
It needs to build up in the system..

The +3 is 99. I'm thinking we are still not out of the woods yet. For Daphne to have the PM # of 139, really scares me a lot. I guess she has been on the high side of OTJ the whole time. I have just been keeping my fingers/paws crossed this whole time.

Sienne, what would be a pattern, or another words, how many numbers are considered a pattern?

(((((Barb))))) I'm sorry that I don't know anything about Adequan, but Roni and Dyana do and both say not to worry. So try not to worry. Wait a few days, follow the advice given above, and see where you and Daphne are then.
I understand how depressing a situation like this can be, especially if you are not feeling well yourself. Rusty will send you some beautiful healing vines tomorrow, and also some "back- to- good- numbers" vines for Daphne. You are never alone when your LL family is around. Please keep posting when you need comments or advice, or just someone to listen.

I think if you are seeing her with a high AMBG and PMBG that don't come down into normal numbers after feeding and retesting and it continues for several days, I'd start to get concerned.

However.....take a look at Tuffy's SS before August. Look how high she can be in her AM and PM tests and then
drop down even into the 30s in three hours!!! Don't worry about her August test....she had a ton of stress. Just look at those numbers above it.

If you want to check it, take her off the adequan....although that is usually given as a weekly shot for four weeks and then monthly so I would think after the shot is given, then within a few days, her numbers should stabilize.

Roni, sorry, our post crossed in the air. Thank you for telling me that, I feel better now, and that you say it does come down. The shot I gave was 2 days ago. I did the half dose because Daphne's platelets are low, and there is a small rish of bleeding being on the Adequan, so with the low platelets, we were going to get a blood test after two weeks to see if the stay the same or get worse.

Thanks Marje, that is interesting, I didn't know that the kitties can stay OTJ with those numbers. So as long as they can get their bgs back down with food, its pretty much ok?

OK, thank you LL again, I'm much calmer now. And to think I was just going to go to bed and cry myself to sleep. So glad I chose to be brave and come to LL for help. :-D

You are one of the bravest people I know. If she doesn't bring herself down into green, or if the AM/PM numbers get way up there, let us know.

Sorry I missed you, Barb. I hope Daphne starts going down again. Please don't worry yet. Do as Dyana & Marje suggested and see what happens. It will probably turn out to be a temporary high bg like Moonie's.

How's Daphne's Ps? Other that the sudden "high bg"? Is the Adequan helping?
And how are you doing Barb? Wished that you are getting better & focusing more on taking care for yourself. We've all mised you.

Hey Barb -

I'm sorry you're seeing higher numbers...hopefully this is just a little bump in the road. Since Daphne is going down after eating, that is a GREAT sign. And I'm glad that Roni was able to weigh in and give you some peace of mind.

You are always and forever part of the LL family, so you can always feel comfortable coming here with any questions!

Take care of yourself, and keep us posted on Daphne when you feel up to it!
