Good evening,

Binie had a day in mostly higher pinks after seing green numbers on the libre yesterday. Now she is going down gently and at 2.5, we are already seeing yellow numbers again. Curious to see, how 1 IU is working out on the long run.

Today we went to the vet. She took blood to check her t4 and tsh as this was still not in balance and to check if there are still signs of inflammation and to check on her kidneys. I think monday or tuesday we will get results.

After the the two failed urine tests we discussed if we should take urine directly from the bladder or use the sample I collected this morning. The vet couldn't explain what I did wrong and didn't wanted me to waste money but was o.k. to give it another try. If that is not working we come again next week and she takes urine directly from the bladder. I was scared oft that because I read that a bladder rupture might occure but my vet explained to me, that this is very rare and she never had it in 30 years of working with cats. She sees the bigger problem in finding Binies bladder without ultrasound because Binie is chubby and it is hard for her to detect her bladder with her hands.

Finally she looked at Binies wounds. Last night Binie had another hour where she was licking her whole body wildly including the wound. Something is bothering her and I don't know what. The threads in her wound are hopefully absorbed so that shouldn't be such a problem anymore. I thought about fleas but couldn't find any. This whole body licking started when she took the antibiotics and it never stopped completely since then. So the wounds on her breast didn't look good to me today. But even though the vet was pleased. She said the tissue feels normal again and she thinks now only the skin is damaged because of the constant licking and the wounds are very superficial. So no steroids at the moment. :bighug: Even though I would love to find out what is bothering Binie and why she is licking herself so much. Sometimes she doesn't do it at all and sometimes she goes crazy for a full hour or so.

Just one more interesting thing: I told my vet about Binies early drops the last days and she says she sees this a lot in summer days. The insulin gets absorbed faster and the insulin from the cycle before and the new insulin are working at the same time, so it is acting almost like an increase. Humans have these problems too. So next summer I will have to make an investment and buy an AC for us. Thank god from tomorrow on it will be cooler for the next days, so things can come back to normal.

I hope everyone is having a good start in the weekend! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike, I’m glad to read the report from your vet visit. It sounds like the vet is pleased with how Binie’s wound appears.

It’s great no steroids will be needed. You must feel so relieved.
And hoping the next trial of getting urine is successful.

Ivy has had urine extracted by the vet many times and no problems. So your vet is most likely right in the instance of an issue Is rare.
If you are successful catching the urine, great. If not try not to worry too much.
(Easier said than done, I understand)

I hope her bg slides down gently. It’s great the weather is getting cooler. Hope that will help with insulin absorption and her bg.

Keep us posted on the lab results. Paws crossed for good results.
Hope you both have a restful night and a great weekend :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Heike :)
I'm happy that Binie's wound is a bit better and that she doesn't need steroids. That's nasty stuff.
Does Binie get probiotics? The skin is the speaker of the gut. You said that this started when she had antibiotics so to me it sounds like pretty clear a case of AB killing healthy gut and causing massive distortion. I'd look into giving her probiotics if she doesn't yet.

It's very interesting about the absorption of the insulin in summer. But where we live we anyways have only two weeks of heat :banghead::banghead::banghead: the past few days have been more difficult for me than I remember. I think I live too many years in Europe and got used to the cold temperature :p:p:p It's already raining today which I'm not happy about. But in Switzerland mid August is always the end of summer.

Paws crossed the blood results will be good.
I hope you're enjoying your weekend :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you so much Staci! Glad to hear Ivy had this extraction from her bladder done without a problem. Makes me more calm, in case we have to do it. I am super careful now, because lately everything went wrong with Binie, which can go wrong. I just hope this time we are lucky with the urine. Hope you have a relaxed sunday! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Shelly,

what an interesting thought about the probiotics and the skin! I started to give Binie probiotics with the antibiotics but I stopped it on friday, because I thought maybe she is allergic to this special product. I will wait a few days to see if there are any changes and maybe we have to switch to something else. Binie took quite a lot antibiotcis lately and I am sure her gut is messed up but I didn't see the connection to the skin. That is really helpful, thank you!

Maybe I have to move to Switzerland too, I am fed up with the hot summer here. I lived many years in the north of Germany and these temperatures are much more suitable for me. But somehow complaining about the weather is something very German... Hope you still have a few nice sunny days this year! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Do you not live in Germany now?

I think complaining about the weather is a Germanic thing I guess because the Swiss complain about it all the time, whether it's cold or hot :p

I'm happy this connection sounds helpful. The more you share about Binie's medical history the more I'm convinced it's a result of antibiotics. And not such a rare one thought allopathic doctors don't know these things.

I would say she's probably not allergenic to the probiotics but perhaps it's not helping her. What probiotics have you been giving?

There are some good recommendations for PB in this group. I tried kfir grains and it's wonderful. Just read about it lately again. I'd like to make it again. I just got os much kfir from the grains I had to find a way to downsize the production because I had no time to keep on making new one and not enough space to store it.

Hi Shelly,

I still live in Germany but in the south, Baden-Württemberg, close to Heidelberg. It is the hottest region in Germany and when I came here more than ten years ago I thought that this is is an advantage. Today I feel it compromises my quality of life.

You really opened my eyes about that skin issue. I am very interested in everything about the microbiome so it is strange I never thought about it before. I give her omni biotic, but after some research I don't think it is the best option:
https://shop.omni-biotic.com/de-de/...izMfn_gdQZ7Eq3cPbn2w9vZo9K05Fz1oaAloMEALw_wcB

I tried to find out if I can get visbiome, which is recommended here all the time but I can't buy it in Germany. But I found there is something identical from Switzerland:
https://www.napfcheck-shop.de/produkt/sivomixx-probiotikum/

That will be my next try. I didn't know you can give Kefir to cats! He is just drinking it? I love Kefir too so it would be worth starting a production... Thank you for another great recommendation! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Heike, I’ll reply more later. just wanted to write to you to NOT buy sibomixx. It has a lot of sugar. I didn’t check that and gave it to Fistuk and it spiked his numbers like nobody’s business

Thank you Shelly!!!! I didn't see that and thought it is just like Visbiome! And it is so horribly expensive, I am glad to know that!
