? 8/15 Zeke's numbers all over the place. Expired pen?

I am at a loss to explain Zeke's increasing numbers. The Lantus pen I am using was filled 3/12/20. It isn't cloudy or floaty, could it be expired? It's been left out a time or two for 6 hrs or so. It has about 20 more units left and will be getting a new script this week. Any ideas if anything else is going on? Nothing else has changed.

Zeke is so adorable! In reviewing your SS, it looks like the dental could be key somehow; both needing it and recovering from it. He didn't spend a lot of time off insulin, but yes, he appreciates you giving him what he needs - a little extra ;) You are doing a good job with him.

The dental, and meds before and after, look a little suspect to me. But I'm only guessing based on what we know. Does he feel good generally?!

He seems to not be quite himself, and is very hungry again. He's eating and everything the same. What do you mean a little suspect? Thanks.

Good questions about the dental. Did he have any extractions? Anything more than a cleaning? If so, were follow on xrays done or at least a dental follow up? To make sure there weren't any infections.

Could you help me understand what dosing method you are following this time? It doesn't look like TR.

I am using TR, its just been off since hes been going up. Everyone knows I work 10 hr night shifts and can test only 3 times per day when I am working. Ive been testing more the last couple of days, due to being off work, for myself. Have vacay coming up in 4 days, so will be trying to get back on track.
He was on Clindamycin for several days, got rid of infection before the surgery, so no extractions were needed per my vet. No xrays done that I know of, but vet said his mouth was in better shape than he first had thought. He had another round of the Clindamycin afterwards. I really don't think he has any infection.

X-rays should be done before a dental, to make sure there is nothing lurking below the gum line that cannot be seen by visual inspection alone. Had that happen with Neko. Even the dental specialist needed the x-rays to see what needed fixing. Clindamycin should kill any infection, though it does a number on your GI system (speaking from personal experience ) and you usually need to add a probiotic. That might have been why he's hadn't been feeling quite himself.

I wasn't commenting on the testing for following TR, but rather the timing of increases/unearned decreases. Zeke is now considered a long term diabetic. With TR, that means decreases below 40, or one week in greens, or 3 days with numbers from 40-50 if he's not holding reductions well.

He’s back to .75 should I hold there now or increase to 1u? He did have flora probiotic. He had bad diarrhea but that is over now for at least 2 weeks.
We can’t go through that again . I trusted that th vet knew what he was doing. This makes me sick.

I'm always concerned about dental X-rays if there were extractions. In that situation, post-procedure X-rays are really essential. Wendy is correct, that pre-procedure X-rays are very helpful but they may have been done the day of the dental since most cats won't stay still long enough for good pictures and why anesthetize a cat just to get the pictures when the kitty will need anesthesia for the dental. You may know know if they were done -- it may be all rolled in to the cost of the dental.

Like Wendy, I agree that if you're following TR, you may want to review the guidelines. It looks to me like you're holding the doses for too long and I'm not sure why you reduced from 0.75 to 0.5u or from 1.0u to 0.75u.

He had no extractions. When the vet looked at him beforehand, he told me his mouth was 'rough' and he would probably need 3 extractions, he sent us home with Clindamycin. On the day of the dental, I was told no extractions were needed, that when he got in there, he saw no infection, that the Clindamycin was all that he needed. We then got another round of it, which was VERY hard on him, even with the Flora probiotic, and that was it. Do you think he should have done extractions like he thought at first? and the antibiotic fix was only temporary? and now we have to do it again!!
As far as my dosing, I thought he could reduce after 50. he hit 50 and 52, guess I 'jumped the gun'. After he started going back up again, I kind of lost it and was not as compliant with the rules, I guess. This has gotten me most upset. hes on .75 right now, I will hold now. It doesn't look like we'll be seeing greens anytime soon. If they never get out of blues, do you just keep holding them there?
