Morning.. ~O)

well the numbers have all been good for a while now but the behaviour sure is weird..... thus... Miss Skitzed out.

I think she is leery of me now.
We had a little accident and she seems to be blaming me.
I keep a cardboard shallow box ( what holds cans when you buy a case) in the kitchen because she likes to lay in it.... especially when I am cooking.
There are high cabinets above it.... has all the things in it like olive oil, flour, etc.... and my husband keeps a bag of raisins in there. I guess he didn't quite put them
up well enough because when I opened the cabinet last week.... the raisins ( half a larger bag) fell out and landed on Shadow's head.
Of course she ran. And I ran after her ... " I'm sorry", "you're okay" trying to sooth her. It scared her a bunch and probably hurt some too.
Well since then she'll come in the kitchen just a little and get my attention ( hey mom, food? ) and leaves pronto. She's not staying.
I don't blame her for that. I expect it will be 6 months of uneventful accident time before she'll come in there again.
But..... last night, when I tested her she really tried to get away where she normally sits here and purrs. And she won't sit with me in my recliner.
She is running away as fast as she can if I pick up a bag of treats. She does not want any of her treats at all.
I thought this morning that maybe it's the crinkly bag but she still comes to me for her catnip which is in a crinkly bag too.

Of course, the raisins are no longer allowed up in that cabinet.

We had an accident in the kitchen years ago....my DH spilled hot water on her (microwave and she got under his feet) and she avoided the kitchen for months so I'm guessing
we'll just have to go thru it again.
maybe I'll give her a little raw shrimp in the kitchen today after work and see if she'll even eat it in the room.

I hope she isn't going to give up her freeze dried treats though. That will really cause problems.

Healing vines for all who need them.... thinking of Bern and Tashie, and Jamie and Jupiter.

Hi, Rhiannon! Oh no on poor Shadow. I don't blame her for being hesitant about the kitchen ~ the shrimp sounds like a great idea. I mean, who can resist shrimpies?
I hope she gains trust in being in the kitchen ~ and all thinks crinkly and raisinny and treaty ~ very soon.
Enjoy your day! Scritches to Miss Skitzy (that may be my new favorite word!)!

Oh no, Poor Shadow!!!
I hope Shrimpies in the kitchen will make her feel better about kitchen!
It's sad when they associate bad things with us. :-|
I'm sure she'll come to feel safe around you soon enough, even if it takes longer for her to like staying in the kitchen again.
Have a nice day, Rhiannon!

Awww...poor little girl. My GA Mario would react the same way. One time, a hand towel fell into his water bowl (I don't know if he was drinking at the time - I found it there after-the-fact). He was leery of the bowl for quite some time after that. I bet you are right about the treat bag sounding like the raisin bag. It's so hard when we can't get them to understand it was an accident and it won't happen again. I'm sure she'll eventually settle down again...calming vines to sweet Shadow!

Hi Rhiannon,
Sorry to here about Shadow and the raisin incident. Hopefully she'll come around to the treats! Sometimes I buy the halo freeze dried in the plastic tub. You could try this if she is associating the treat bag with the raisins. Well, hope you have a good day and Shadow forgives you soon. Good BG number!

Poor shadow, she is lucky she doesn't live with Taz. Taz open pantry door climbs up the shelves and then starts throwing can goods on his sister and brothers, I can't understand why they keep going back in there with him  My kitchen can be cleaned in a heart beat they hear a sound they all run eating or not big scar-die's

Awww, poor Shadow. Did the people treats hurt your little head? It's amazing how long their memory is of such a single incident. About 6 years ago we had a contractor in the house who used a reciprocating saw for one day during a bathroom renovation. Neko was terrified of the noise. The contractor wore a baseball cap. To this day if a guy wears a ball cap in the house (even DH), she is still wary of them. I like the idea of special treats to try to lure her back to the kitchen.

I'm sorry about the accident, but glad Shadow is okay. I'm sure that really scared her. Maybe you could try giving her some of the freeze dried treats in another room and then work her back into the kitchen slowly.
