Good Morning Everyone!

This morning Reuben ran away when we sat down in our testing spot bcatrun_gif ... like he thought all that poking was over and life was going to back to normal today! So I have him a few minutes to think about the pros and cons of our venture, and then went and found him on the terrace and explained my side of the situation. He grudgingly gave a nice test after that... :YMSIGH:

But for the injection he was amazing! It was like he knew I needed help figuring out, and he acutally lay down on his side and didn`t move while I found a spot to inject into... cat_pet_icon

Now let's hope I did it right!! We'll know in a couple of hours... (insert 'fingers crossed' emoticon here :lol: )

I just keep thinking about how impossible testing seemed - and how now it`s not - so the same thing is going to happen for injecting.

Jane and Leslie - oh gosh, thank you so much for the specific instructions clearing up my confusion! I was looking at the picture 'wrong', thinking Karre was facing a different direction that he was. Also, I think i need to grab more skin to make the tent, make a longer tent. Does that make sense?

Hi Alexa, glad your shot went well! Everybody has to try thigns to figure out what position works for their cat, I favor whatever approach that he does not want to bite me :lol: . I hold Jasper across my lap for testing, but he prefers lying on the floor for shooting, cats, go figure. The tent should be high enough to ensure you are shooting into the open space inside the tent, and long enough to make sure the needle tip is inside the tent, not sticking out through skin at the other end of the tent. You also want to avoid shooting your fingers. I massage around his shoulders a bit to make sure I am in the area he accepts before we get to far along. If he truns and nips at that point I know its not discomfort from the needle or the juice, just need to move over a bit. I use 2 or 3 fingers and my thumb to pull up Jasper's tent, I would say its about 2 cm high and maybe 3 cm long more or less.
Some folks vary the shot location like shooting alternating sides. We are still fairly new at this, so we try to shoot the area each time, one less variable to think about.
I agree this community is amazing, we just joined FDMB in July and it has already helped us help Jasper gain remarkable improvement. And even newbies can help each other out!

Thank you so much for your message yesterday, it helped immensely! And now just to keep things interesting...Reuben no longer is agreeable to the testing and we struggle :-( He lets me do the injection (if I give him a plate of grilled chicken), which is starting to make more sense to me. We are doing it where you describe now, not worrying about rotating the area, but still it seems like no matter how much I pull the tent Up to find the lowest point, there is more to pull up, and a lower point to go to... Does this make sense? Someone said dehydration makes it harder, and indeed it could be making things harder.

The ketone strips should be here today, thank heavens. He acts completely normal part of the time - grooming his buddy Zack and snuggling with me - and so wan and not even drinking other times... so I give him water with a syringe.

I looked at your SS and it is so amazing how you got Jasper's numbers under control so fast. I really need to get the injecting down so that I know for sure he is getting ALL the insulin, as I suspect he needs a bigger dose to get this under control.
