Havent had time to post. So much stress and anxiety and crying in the past 2-3 days about these cats.

They turned out to be completely feral. They were never my Aunt's to begin with. I had to let them go back up there! :((( im so sad and disheartened about the whole thing.

I know there may be people who will be angry with this decision on here, but please let me explain before you judge. :(
I thought these cats had been somewhat inside outside cats and had been accustomed to people. When I went up there to get a cat who I know to be domestic and who loves me, walks right up to me, and would jump right into my car....I couldnt find him. I saw this mama and baby and thought that I could help them, thinking they may have been ok to people and that I COULD help them. I made the decision to take them and it was the wrong one. Has anyone ever made a mistake? Well, this turned out to be a big one on my part :(

1. They turned out to be TRUE FERAL. And they were locked in my upstairs bathroom/laundry room where we shower. This got scarier as the mama began coming closer and closer to the door and she just kept freaking me out so bad. I ended up having anxiety and crying for days.

2. My husband wanted them out of here!

3. Ares hardly comes out from under the bed now since I have had them here. It is so hard to test him now, I have had to grab him out from under the bed to test him and shoot him. He is also hardly eating and his numbers are still elevated. This is a HUGE concern for me.

4. My brother who lived there, after i already had them in my home for 2 days, proceeded to tell me about just how wild they are and scary they were for even him (who is 6'2" and a bigger guy) He advised me to put them back ASAP.

5. My aunt, who, i thought, was their caretaker before, told me that they were NEVER hers, they had just showed up. She wanted me to take in at least one of HER cats that she had as inside / outside cats.

6. I could NOT get them to any appointments on time because i couldnt touch them and the mama was too smart for the traps we had set (overnight and it took 4 hours with me and my dad to catch them this morning) So I could never have set up a spay and guaranteed she would be there on time. I am also being charged now before hand at my vet's office because I couldn't make the mama's appointment.
This is VERY important: If I cannot get the cat into a trap or carrier when she needed to go, then how could i ever get her spayed?!

7. They seemed like OK, but mostly hiding from me during the day, but at night, the wild came out and i would get nothing but hisses and growls. Then the aggression began after a couple days. I had LOTS of hope before, but it kept dwindling down as time went on.

8. I did NOT make take this decision lightly! I prayed constantly on what to do. I talked to my husband, my brother, 2 aunts, and 2 people from my church about it because i took this VERY seriously!

I still feel like a failure. I tried to help, I tried to take on a responsibility for these cats, but I couldnt finish the job.

I AM going back to get August and Sophie too. I have been up there today looking for them. They didnt show up, but Im going there EVERYDAY until i get them. These two ARE my aunts cats. They come right up to me and beg for food and pets. They are both very loving. They both are in desperate need of medical care and I WILL provide for them! I already have a neuter appointment set up for August on the 28th, already paid for. AND I already have a home lined up for him after I get him to health!
Sophie is spayed, but she is older and she needs somewhere she can live out the rest of her life with love and food and shelter. I was told my 2 people that Sophie might have to be sent over the RB, but I dont want her to die out there! I want to care for her!

So please if you are a huge believer in ALTERING cats, know that SO AM I!
This turned out to be a situation that I could no longer handle. And I still feel so bad about it. :(

Im so sorry to Nyomi and Kimbo that I couldnt save you two.

But they did not want to be in my home!

Oh Ash you did everything you could , you couldn't have Ares hiding all the time trying to get him out from under the bed, him being upset and hardly eating, not fair to him or Maggie.
I would never judge you. You have such a big heart , I know you are very upset about this but you were making yourself sick over this. Ares and Maggie need you.
I'm so happy to hear that someone is going to take August once he's neutered and what ever else has to be done
I pray you can find someone to take Sophie too.
Why would someone tell you that she may have to be sent over the RB?
Would your nice take her? The neice that you mentioned that would take one of the ferals .
Please don't be so hard on yourself. You tried but it just couldn't work out.

Don't tell me the vet is also charging you for the missed appointment for the mama cat ?
Sending you lots of hugs , you are an amazing person :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:♥♥

How has Ares been since they are gone?

@Ashleigh & Ares

Thanks for your kind words Diane :bighug::bighug::bighug:

My brother just called me and i went and picked up both Sophie and August! They are going to be 2 handfuls! they are both smothered in fleas. And they are both very vocal. Since Augy is not neutered yet, he is probably going to be very hard to keep in the room!
I also have to get them to the vet ASAP to test for feLV. They both been eating together out of same bowls for years now. So, if one has it, then the other will too.

My neice who is taking August is the one who would have taken the ferals (before they were ferals of course!)
I dont think she should take both. She has full time job and her hubby does too. Also, they have 3 young children in a small house. Soooo ill just have to play by ear.
Got a LOT to do around here, have to keep vacuuming daily in order for fleas to keep from spreading too much.
I just petted them for half hour in the room and im itchy as heck. Have to change clothes to go in and out of there just so im not exposing too much on Ares and Maggie.

They are both used to being outside at night, so it may get a bit crazy at night around here!!!
August need neutered quick. cant wait til that happens!

Husband's bday is today and i had just given him presents, grabbed Ares from under bed to test feed shoot...then my brother called and said THEY ARE UP HERE, COME NOW!

I dont know why they said she may have to be put down...they are all like, "something is wrong with her" ... well i think she just needs some meds and alot of love. Her voice is super low and scratchy...she sounds like an old ass dude...:smuggrin::smuggrin: i actually love the way it sounds! And August sounds almost exactly like Ares...

Big day, big night for me

I hope i can do this without too much stress. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I didnt get charged, but will for now on up front :rolleyes:

I'm glad you got them , poor babies covered in fleas , I feel so bad for them and you.
I hope Ares and Maggie don't get them. I wonder if the vet can give them a flea bath
asap.
Do you put anything on Are and Maggie for fleas ?
Keep me posted :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Ares and Maggie flea meds are near end of cycle and they aren't strong enough to withstand this! Must get them bravecto soon!

I spent almost 3 hours giving them makeshift baths last night. up to 2am. At least 1k fleas cone off but MANY still there August poor baby has red marks ALL OVER HIS BODY. Hurts my beart.
He was being so tough. Sophie harder to see skin, but she was definitely itching whole time. Got lots of them dead. Liquid soap KILLs them on contact!

i have a couple more sessions of this and STRONG flea meds to put on them before the worst is over. I also change out clothes when going in and out of the room since all the eggs can easily fall right onto me. And i put a barrier of cedarwood mix with lemongrass lotion AND a spray on to protect me....lol. im going psychotic already and its only been one night :facepalm:

Then will have to likely flea bomb and vacuum thoroughly for 2 weeks every day. And will likely throw out a ton of items that I had.

I cant wait to see them both with healthy skin!

built a barrier at door with silica and liquid palmolive soap. had to tape handle and a dign on door for hubby saying DO NOT ENTER. you can imagine how happy he was about that getting ready for work this AM!

OMG :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:.
FDMB members have the biggest hearts and warmest souls. You went, and continue to go above and beyond. :bighug: No judgement here, just very impressed by your selflessness.
Thank you for being kind.:bighug:
The guy who helped me trap the ferals gave me guilt trip after guilt trip for taking the mama back out without getting her spayed...it just made me feel soo much worse.

Now my first generation Italian-American NY'er self is judging him! Did HE offer to get her spayed or at the very least, split the cost of the procedure???? FWIW, I wouldn't let a sanctimonious (insert explicative of your choice) make me feel guilty for giving it my best effortS . That is exactly what you did. That's just my not so humble opinion.

You might want to consider using Capstar. It's a tablet that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes and can be given once a day (if necessary) but it'll really knock down the fleas that are currently on the cat until you can get them on Bravecto that will help prevent any eggs from hatching (and if a few do, you can always Capstar them again)

This is the exact same medication as the "brand name" and it's 6 doses so for 2 cats you could give each cat 3 doses (if needed)

As for the "guy that helped me with the feral's"....why didn't HE take them. If you were doing such a lousy job, maybe he should have manned up and done it himself, right? You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.

I don't know where you live, but there are TNR groups all over. Maybe try contacting them and letting them catch the 2 you returned. They know what they're doing and usually have agreements with certain vets to take them when they can catch them. Most are spayed/neutered the same day they're caught, spend the night in a cage in a garage and are put back where they were trapped the next day.

YOU TRIED! That's more than the "manly man" did!

He is actually the trapper from our TNR group. Think that's why he was so upset. Bit i poured my heart out to him and he just couldn't care less.
You straight up NY :joyful::joyful:

As for capstar, i gave both Sophie and August one in a pill pocket. And August just isnt responding much .
Only thing working well is the liquid dish soap.

Yeah Dawn in the blue bottle with the duck on it is amazing. Kills the icky critters but gentle on our furbabies (and feather-babies too like ducks/geese stuck in oil spills)

Just goes to prove you're the better human. It's easy to talk a good game. It's a lot harder to put the work in.
