:bighug::bighug::bighug:I'm sorry you got red 'cause we know how much you hate red but the hardest part of this dance is those dang bounces. Angel had a nice surf in the blues today and she just isn't use to sitting at lower numbers for that long. This too shall pass!

What a crazy crazy bounce last night. She seemed to somewhat clear it kind of fast tho which is good. Numbers this morning weren't awful. We are also taking up our non diabetic kitties dry EVO food after 10 mins of eating 4 times.a day to ensure Angel isn't getting any of it. If this process works and we feel confident with how things are going we may switch him to something else that might help more with his megacolon and motility disorder. The only reason he eats Evo is because of Angel. So 2 days with increasing Angels wet food from 2 3oz cans to 3 and zero dry food. :) :)

Hey there Cherish. I was off the boards for several days and just realized you have switched to Lantus. Welcome to L & L! I hope that Lantus will be a good fit for you and Angel. :cat::)

Just a bit of housekeeping, because Lantus is a very large group, we start a new thread each day with kitties name and date and the AMBG's. All data and questions for one day goes into that thread. If you have a question you need an answer for, you can just change the title and put a question mark to get eyes on your thread. By keeping one thread a day, the thread doesn't get too long and it helps advice givers to quickly read through and get the pertinent information for right now.

Also, we link yesterday's thread to the new one so that we can go back to see what transpired the day before if more info is needed.

So far so good today's cycle. Looks like a bounce is starting all ready from the nice run of blues today. :cool:

OK, I just saw the 185 @+8. Sorry if I jinxed the reducie..:oops: I didn't mean to:oops::oops:
But still - lovely cycle.:bighug:
She may bounce again like last night. She got super high after a great day time numbers but then headed backwards down. She's definitely a bouncy kitty. Bf gave her 1.5oz low Carb snack after 105 so that mignt have brought her up slightly.

Welcome to the club! :bighug::blackeye:
Good thing about it: you are in the good company, and very large company that is!;)
What do you think of reducing to 1.75 for a week and trying to keep her day time numbers in yellow until she gets used to being low most the day? She's super high at +10 right now and bound to be over 400 for preshot.

I think if reduction wasn't earned it should not be taken...
I'll find my updated Reductions guidelines and post it here for you later on.

I do not dose advise, do not feel competent enough. It took Ducia a while (weeks!) to mellow in her bounces with front load feeding. I am afraid you have to be patient - it is very early days for Angel on Lantus; you need to collect more data on her reactions to it.

Feeding 5% early in the cycle in great but perhaps you can switch her +5 snacking to something lower in carbs? I do not suggest to reduce the amount of food at +5 because it will reduce over all daily caloric intake - not good if she is in her ideal weight. Plain boiled or baked chicken, Tiki Cat 0% - lower carbs close to the nadir time.

ETA: today her amps +4=226 but the +5 was already 142. It is over 80 points down in an hour - that much points would make Ducia bounce relentlessly. I'd take a notes as to how often does Angel falls between +4 and +5 and if often enough to call it a pattern I'd feed at +4 instead of +5, and test at +5. It might help making a nice slide out of sudden drop. After a while with this type of thinking Ducia's cycles improved/mellowed. Just an idea. :bighug:

Are you familiar with the fancy feast broths? I bought a lot of them and intended to feed between meals but the carb count came back a negative number and I didn't trust it. Do u know if that's true ?
No.. Is it as expensive as FF Naturals?

If it is in the price range of the Tiki Cat price - $1.89+tax in CA per 2.8 oz I'd recommend trying the Tiki Puka Puka and Koolina Luau instead- all chicken white meat in broth, goes wonderfully with extra water mixed in and guaranteed 0% carbs. You won't need a lot of it - just for mid day/ late in cycle snacking. I refrigerate the content of opened cans in a plastic container with air tight lid and it stays fresh for over a day at least.

:confused:o_O I am rubbish with numbers but how is it - minus X% carbs?:confused:

I will properly respond to all of your ideas after work! Thx so much for the help. Going to get some tiki cat. Hmm I thought 5.5% was low carb tho.

I thought 5.5% was low carb tho.
It is. I think anything under 10%. Some kitties are more sensitive to carbs than others. Gizmo is one of those. I am experimenting with different carb foods now to see how it affects his cycle. I can see the difference between 4% and 5% (believe it or not). Some kitties do better with a bit higher carbs and others it doesn't matter. With low numbers MC will bring Gizmo up and other kitties take HC (and lots of it). You will just need to see what works. Keep notes either on the SS or in a separate document for future reference.

Thanks for all the info on dose reductions. I think I just love her so much and want her better and it makes me very impatient.. At least I realize it! haha. But I will try to calm down and just wait it out for awhile. :) I have a bunch of those fancy feast broth packets. From what Im looking at they are zero % carbs. 92% moisture. So we are going to go ahead and give her those as her in between meal snack until I can pick her up some tiki cat at the pet store next time i'm out. I think we are headed in the right direction so far this evening but we will see. :) :)

thanks! did i do my post wrong? i thought i had it right. :)

Lantus is a slo-mo insulin, Cherish. You have to be extra patient. I often compare it to driving a tank versus a sports car ( like the in and out insulins).
