Morning,

Day 3 of rabies watch and so far so good, i had a very lovey kitty last night who wanted snuggles all night long, i didn't have a very good sleep due to all the purring, headbutting, and digging to get under the blankets. We had a good test, shoot, feed with lots of purrs and headbutts.

I guess i should clarify that Leo has never had a rabies vaccination, i know lots of people thought that he wasn't up to date with his rabies, but he has NEVER had it.

Visiting grandma went well last night, she seemed better than previous days. When i walked in she was proceeding to give my dad sh#$ about letting me jump on the stove, she was very in and out of it. One minute making sense the next talking about something that happened 80 years ago.

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers, please keep 'em coming!

Hooray for Day 3, only 7 to go!! Hang in there, Tracy.
Your grandma sounds like she's having a good time re-living her life. Good for her! It may be painful and sad for the rest of the family, but you have got to believe that for her it is good.

Fingers and paws crossed for Leo. He has nice numbers this morning.

Nice to hear you two are surviving your confinement!!! At least Leo sleeps with you. My kitty hasn't since he was diagnosed with FD  I'm going to set up a ramp for him and maybe that will make it easier for him to get up and down from my bed and he'll want to come back.

I hope you're having a great day!

Hi Tracy-

I've been following your rabies situation and I'm glad to hear Leo seems fine.

When you wrote the part about your grandmother I wasn't sure if that was you jumping on the stove??? or your cat? I'm confused!

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, +4.5 83 Day 3 Rabies Watch

I'm following too, Tracy. I'm so glad Leo's feeling good, and being a little snugglebug. You're halfway there, now. Oh wait..it's ten days, not seven, huh?

And do what Grandma says, and stop jumping on the stove.

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, +4.5 83 Day 3 Rabies Watch

Hi Tracy, thanks for checking in with us on Leo. I and a others are thinking about you and Leo today. Glad to hear he is doing well. Hugs and prayers. Nice you got to see your Grandma. I had to read it a couple of times, too. At first I thought it was Leo jumping on the stove, but now I see she's reliving the past, bless her. Enjoy spending time with her.

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, +4.5 83 Day 3 Rabies Watch

((((Tracy)))) ((((Leo)))) I didnt realize he had never been vaccinated. Maverick had issues with vaccinations. As soon as he got asthma I stopped vaccinating him for everything. A friend of mine emailed me a journal article on vaccinations and I'm going to come up to speed on all of this for my three. Since my dog started fighting congestive heart failure we haven't vaccinated her either.

I'm sorry your grandmother's struggling. My grandmother is schizophrenic which makes for interesting visits. She has the biggest heart in the world and I love her with all my heart. Sending hugs for your grandmother also.

Give Leo a belly rub from me.

So we are thinking of you lots :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, +4.5 83 Day 3 Rabies Watch

Hi Tracy - thinking of you both... 7 days to go. I am sure that all will be fine with Leo. I bet he isn't too crazy about this quarantined stuff is he?

I am glad that she is doing better. I like what Ella wrote - for her it probably is good... the rest will survive it, and when she is all better everyone can have a chuckle or two over it all. I hope she continues to improve daily. Well wishes for her.

And Leo, my friend... keep on truckin'. It will be over soon, and you can get back to mousin'... no more bats for you though, OK?

Leo - dude! I hear you are in lock up. man that is not cool... I am sorry. hey - I was thinkin'... I know you can't get out, but well... we is having this full moon party tonight, and I sure wish you could come, but since you can't well... thinking maybe I could leave some party fuds by the fence ya know? so be sure and check it our later OK? Look for us!! Only the best for our Leo. later dude! ~~ Mannie

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, PMPS 70 Day 3 Rabies Watch

Lowest pre-shot to date  !!!! Weird how his nadir keeps moving, i have no idea what to expect when i test him. He peaked at +11, so i'll test a little more often tonight. He's still feeling pretty good too, still got alot of cattitude and talkative as usual.

And yes it was me jumping/dancing on the stove, according to my grandmother. Everyday we laugh about something she's said, its not at all sad for us to see her like this, in fact it makes everyone happy to know she's reliving her past, she sure does tell us some stories that sure are doozies!

How sweet that Mannie and the gang are going to leave some party fuds on the fence, maybe i can let Leo out to go and grab them after the gang has left.

I'm so glad to see that Leo is feeling good, and proving it with that pre-shot! Our prayers continue for you guys. I just know in my heart of hearts that all will be well.

I'm also very happy to hear that you are enjoying your visits with your grandma. She's a very lucky lady to have you in her life!

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, PMPS 70 Day 3 Rabies Watch

Hi Tracy

Why didn't they want to test the bat? If you still have access to the body, it needs to be tested ASAP. Let the pathologist determine if the brain is too far gone, not some whosit on the phone. Absolutely test whenever possible.

I think there is some confusion over the rabies quarantine. If an animal bites a person, the minimum rabies quarantine is 10 days under the assumption that the animal was aggressive due to rabies i.e. it was already clinical. Once an animal has symptoms of rabies, death is not far away so 10 days is reasonable. On the other hand, if an animal is potentially infected by another animal, animal #1 has to be observed for 6 months because it can take that long for clinical symptoms to appear. 10 days is not the right time frame for an animal who may have recently been infected, only for one who may already have rabies -- does that make sense?

You yourself can be vaccinated for rabies, your primary care doctor can order the vaccine. I'd consider it if it would give you peace of mind about your own safety.

To everyone else: PLEASE everyone vaccinate your cat at least once for rabies with the safest brand available, Merial PureVax. Rabies vax can last a long time, and you can avoid a lot of worry and heartache should the thing-you-are-sure-will-never-happen happens.

Re: 8/13 Leo AMPS 122, PMPS 70 Day 3 Rabies Watch

The 10 day quarantine is what the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) ordered. A minimum 10 day quarantine for Leo.....not me, although the vet did ask that i be the only person to be around Leo for that 10 day period. Also he did say that Leo would need to be watched for up to 6 months, as rabies can sit in the nervous system for that long before presenting symptoms, although very unlikely. Leo has not biten or scratched me and i am not worried whatsoever for myself, its Leo that i'm concerned about, so a vaccine for me......meh, i could care less.

The bat that Leo killed, i threw over the balcony of my apartment, by the time Leo and i were at the vet (we see a country vet about 45 minutes outside the city) it was approximately 16 hours after he had killed it, and it was killer hot that day, the vet and the CFIA determined that it wouldn't be ideal conditions for testing, so we didn't. Honestly, i'd rather not know. If the bat did test positive, and even if Leo wasn't exhibiting rabies symptoms, it wouldn't matter, Leo would be euthanized, so i'd rather not know.

Leo - fear not! We are on our way to your place. heeheehee... we even snagged a few mice for you. I hope they don't escape.... hey - we giots lots of stuff for you, all the drinks, and desserts, even some s'mores! I hope you are hungry! We thought we could have a mini full moon party at your quarantine boundary or sumthin'. We will try and not be too loud so that we don't get you busted or plaything, or make your neighbors mad. See you soon! oh - hey there you are! See us? We are rounding the bend! ~~ Mannie

Very nice numbers tonight for Leo!
