Going to try to get a nadir today. Started at 8am at 334. Will enter numbers into Calley's SS....which is up and working thanks to combined efforts by Katie and Mel. Thanks Ladies so much.

Great. This will help us understand your sugarkitty! It looks like her nadir was early unless the +6 was influenced by food. Nadirs can bounce around somewhat. Thanks for the efforts in testing.

Well I'm totally confused now...as her +8 was 334 and then her +10 was 239. ????????

She had food right after her AMPS....then nothing again until +6...after I did the test. Then no more food until just now at +11.

Why would her bg go down midafternoon?

I can't figure this out. She is all over the place.

It looks like she is still bouncing. If you factor in the +/- 20% meter variance, her numbers today are rather unchanged except for the 239 which since shes a bit lower could mean she coming down from a bounce. Did you say you feed at +11? Normally we dont feed anything the last 2 hours before shot time(+12). If you feed and wait an hour and then test, she will be higher because of the food spike. We usually test/feed/shoot all within 15 minutes. I like to shoot while she is eating to make sure there isnt an appetite issue and she is eating ok. You dont want to give insulin on an empty tummy..at least I wouldnt. I still think she may be going lower overnight.. without food that happens. Then she bounces up during the am cycle. Im not an expert and I am only going by what I have been told by others that are, and by my experience with my own kitty for the past 7 + months. I wonder where Mel is?? maybe she will turn up soon and advise.

The +11 was her last test of the day. I'm out of strips and I had to leave for class so I had to test and feed an hour earlier than normal. I don't understand this bouncing that people talk about. What is she bouncing from? Nothing has changed for her for a couple of days....why would she bounce? Is bouncing normal and what do I do to not have her bounce?

I test and then feed and give the shot while she is eating. No vomiting so far today. She vomited a huge amount last night around 2am.

Bouncing is when a cat will drop into low numbers and the liver responds by releasing hormones to help the cat stay safe. It is like a built in mechanism in cats. if the cat has been diabetic and untreated for a good amount of time, the liver thinks that the high numbers are normal. So when you give insulin, and the numbers start to come down, the liver panicks and doesnt recognize the lower numbers as normal and responds. Some cats bounce alot, like mine, she will bounce from numbers in the 100s. Sometimes cats just stop bouncing and continue to drop and and insulin is reduced accordingly. That is what we wish for! All cats are different in how or when they bounce, they just do until they dont.. confused_cat . I think Calley might be dropping low at night and the liver panicks and she soars high for the next cycle, and this could be happening alot. without pm #s, its just a guess.

But why would she only bounce at night and not during the day; nothing is different. I can try to get a +5 here soon...at midnight but that will still have her going 7 hours unchecked. We'll see what happens with the +5. Maybe over the next few nights before I go back to teaching, I can get a few +5's or +6's.....as that is only midnight since her PMPS is at 7pm.

So when a cat bounces....do you give more insulin or less?

She has been on insulin for 8 months now. When is it decided that one insulin does not work and a change to another needs to take place? Her numbers were more even and lower when she was on the N insulin.

+3.5 = well who knows what the number was. I took three tests within a minute of each other....got 309 first, then 71, and then 229. How the heck am I supposed to know her number if I get three very different numbers?

Yep... Linda is right - many cats have lower cycles at night. I always know my Alska went a little low over nite when he bounces. What you want is for bounces to be lower. Alska used to bounce into the 300s in the beginning and now he bounces to the mid 200s.
