Lousy yesterday

Zener is doing better today. Appy is much better. He has done a couple of yard patrols. :-D :-D He also has a new friend. We got a HEPA air filter, mostly to run when it's smoky (as it has been a bit this week). Then I decided to see if it would help Tillie's occasional sneezing. It's kind of loud so I put it in Anne's office at the back of the house. Neither Tillie nor Zener had been in there much since Anne left but they have both been in there frequently since the air filter has been back there and Zener is sleeping on the floor right next to it. Crazy cats.

Thank you for all of your prayers, good wishes and kind thoughts, and, of course, the appy vines! They seem to be working for our guy and we surely appreciate that. :-D :-D :-D Zener wants to hang out for a while longer and we are both very glad. I'm adjusting my thinking on the insulin dose, mostly to keep him safe and to relieve my anxiety about him not eating. If you look at the SS, I've greatly reduced it and I've changed it almost every cycle. Ugh. Not ideal, but that's the best I can do for now. I'll try to get some consistency if possible.

Another factor is that I'm giving him fluids now and that seems to cause his BGs to tank.

I bought some high carb food today, to tempt him when the appy is failing. Would kitten food be ok for him? He definitely needs the calories. I bought a couple of cans just in case.

OT: Anne is done with her tournament in Denmark and will be on her way to Bonn, Germany tomorrow for a bunch of meetings. Home on Aug 26.

Thinking of ailing kitties and beans. Paws crossed for OTJ trials - woohoo!!! I hope everyone has had a wonderful Meownday! :-D

Re: 8/11 Zener AMPS 579;+3 584 better day

kitten food is ok if that's what he'll eat. it might be a little high in phosphorus for their (kitten) bones to grow, but i think when you have an appy issue, the best food is the food they'll eat.

so glad to hear he's a little perkier today!! great news! maybe he wants to plan his birthday celebration for when anne comes home!

seems to me that if a cat is dehydrated, the fluids can cause the BGs to come down, but if they are well-hydrated, the fluids don't seem to impact the BGs much. just my observation.

continuing to send best appy wishes to our little buddy.

I'm glad Zener is doing better today. I hope he continues to do so. How funny on the kitties and the air filter. Sending more prayers for Zener.

Re: 8/11 Zener AMPS 579;+3 584 better day

:-D :-D :-D :-D for better days and more of them. i've given Tess kitten food, she too needs the calories. Have you tried the ]MaxCat 3 oz cans? We give Tess:
  • MaxCat Adult With Savory Duck Chunks in Sauce, 8% carbs
MaxCat Adult With Savory Venison Chunks in Sauce, 8% carbs
MaxCat Adult Chicken Supreme Entrée Chunks in Sauce, 9% carbs

She will always eat that and the phosphorus is between 173 and 214 mg/ 100kcal.

Better appy makes a happy day. :-D :-D Extra special vines from North Vancouver coming via express freight, just in case. :YMHUG:

Too funny on the Hepa Filter buddy. Scritches to Zener tonight for being such a good boy. cat_pet_icon

I'm so glad Z-man is having a better day, (((Liz))) and (((Anne))).
Adding many vines to the pile ~ I hope he continues to do well. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:
And sending safe travel vines to Anne during her trip.

I like this report!!! Zener's love affair with the filter sounds like Mocha's love affair with Devon's humidifier. The heart wants what the heart wants  ! As for kitten food...personally, I'd feed him what he wants to eat. If you have any phosphorous binder on hand, you can sprinkle that on the food to reduce the phosphorous levels.

BTW, when Trix was on insulin, I found that I had to shoot her insulin far away from where we did fluids; otherwise she'd drop like a rock. We do her fluids in her shoulder region, and I moved her insulin to her flank, and that really stabilized her BGs.

I hope Z is still feeling well this evening!!

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D YAY! Z-Man is feeling better today. I have been thinking about you guys, and Zener all day I am glad to read that things are better today. Nice too on the fluids, and yes, that can cause a drop in numbers, or so I have been told. I agree with Amy on the fuds too - feed him what he wants to eat, you can always adjust the dosing to compensate if need be. I had to do that with Mannie, as his appy just tanked, and well, he had to eat, so he got whatever would work for that day.

I hope your day has been a good one. :-D

The subject line alone made me happy, but the condo was especially great! YAY for a feel-better Zener. Keep it up!!! Still sending lots of big-appy vines and feel-better vines. BIG HUGS!!!! :YMHUG:

I, too, was delighted when I saw your subject line, happier still to read your condo. You've all been in my thoughts and prayers all day.

Sending more healing and appy vines, and more prayers for Zener and his family, too! :YMHUG:

I'm so glad Zener is feeling better. Given that the kitties are hanging out with the air filter, it does make me wonder if they have been effected by the smoke.

I was sorry to miss this condo yesterday, but so glad to hear today that the Z Man is doing better. It sounds like you are doing just what is needed to keep your boy feeling good. The HEPA filter may really help with the smoke conditions. Smart kitties. Also, it might have a tone or vibration that they like.

Hang in there, Liz,

More appy vines for Zener,

Hugs & scritches,

Ella & Rusty
