Sorry for the late start of the day here, but it was an early one for me, and I have not slept since Saturday night. I was not able to give the kittens to my friend to foster because 4 of them were in critical condition, barely hydrated, and I have been giving round the clock sub-qs, 25mL about every other hour. They are FINALLY starting to eat, and pee, two of them have pooed. I need to continue the IV's with 3 of the kittens but the smallest one, the Flame Point Siamese that I thought would die through the night, is doing good right now. Well, as good as he can for probably having pneumonia. He is super stuffed up. All of the kittens weigh under one pound. I found this little one about 50 feet from the barn, sitting in the BUN position with his head hanging down, just waiting to die... starving to death, skin and bones. Didn't need to trap him, just scooped him up and put him in a carrier. HE was the one that I triaged all night long, had to give the tiniest amount of sub-qs every hour. His little body couldn't handle a big amount, and there was no way I was going to get enough Pedialite into him to make up for his fluid loss.
By around 3am he was purring and thought that I was his mother. I started bottle feeding him the KMR and he was meowing and meowing. So freakin' cute. He saw Rocky and started walking over to him. Rocky just stared at him... Little boy had his tail in the air and wanted to meet Rocky, but Rocky HISSSED at him.. the little boy was un-phased. He still walked right up to Rocky, and touched his nose, but Rocky pulled back and hissed so I scooped up little boy and held him next to my chest.
Rocky wouldn't eat ANYTHING last night, and he puked up about one teaspoon of clear fluid this morning. I didn't think he would eat this morning either, but he did, and he ate his second meal too. I was worried that maybe he had a spike in his BG and we were going to end the OTJ trial today. Curious where his BG will be tonight.
