Since switching to the wet, low-carb diet, Maddy's numbers have all be below 200. Her last dose was 0.5 units at 8:30am on Sunday. This morning she tested at 149, I didn't give her insulin. She just tested at 71.

I know that she's built up at depot of Lantus over the past few weeks. About how long will it take to see if what her "real" numbers are?

That will be up to Maddy! Seriously, that is a bit of a crystal ball question but what I notice is that she brought herself down and stayed there yesterday . Sure wish you had some more tests in the PM cycle.

She brought herself down again today, so I would hold off on insulin and see what she does. Frequent smaller meals help support a pancreas that is getting back into the swing of things. Good luck! Go Maddy!

My understanding is that changes to the dose aren't recommend until after at least 7 full days on that exact same dose am & pm. At least that's what the protocols for Lantus that are referenced here say, and I assume that it's because it takes that long (or longer) for most cats to settle into a dose.

April - wow, Maddy's numbers are looking good!

I don't have enough experience to tell you anything about dosing. After I adopted Alice and started home testing, she was on 1.0u for 4 days, .75u for 4 days, .50u for three days and .25u for just two days before starting her Off the Juice trial.

Maybe Maddy is like Alice ... maybe it was just a matter of getting her off the dry food?

I guess I just have to be patient and see what her numbers do in the next few days. I'll try to get in a few PM cycle tests as well.

I wouldn't shoot her at all unless she goes above 150 and stays there. You just might have a diet controlled kitty!!!
