Hi, Gobbles went to the vet today for cardio follow up 2 week visit. He had been on Lasik a little over 2 weeks now. He seemed better after a few days on lasik--grooming, social, wanting out, 5 Ps in place, except playing though he is not playful. His respirations are all over the place, from 24-48. Today the vet added enalapril and plavix. Also, he has been on cypro for a few months, for appy. He has several lumps under skin, 2 of which are now sores. They cropped up overnight--there were 10 a week ago, now there are a few more. Vet said definitely not allergic reaction and that the 2 sores were infected...prescribed clavamox...no need to biopsy them because I'm not going to take any action if cancerous,,,if they are not healing in a week, then i will know it is cancer. His Echo report:" pericardial effusion-mild, moderate, severe bilateral enlargement, thickened and dilated LV, mitral and LVOT turbulence-moderate, severe, unclassified cardiomyopathy, CHF, prognosis guarded to poor". My QUESTION: i have read that there are drug interactions with enalapril-Lantus (can cause low BG) and enalapril-lasik (kidney function, i think). Does anyone have experience with this combo of meds? I assume I better get some mid-cycle BG tests. I am heartbroken. There is nothing else I can do and feel terrible giving him soooo much medicine. Med schedule: 6 am/pm-lantus & lasik, 10 am/pm-clavamox, 12 noon-cypro, 2pm-enalapril & plavix. He had a dry cough earlier...i read that the enalapril can cause that. This is all VERY SCARY. Please keep him in your thoughtsi pray earnestly that he has no suffering..

Good to hear Gobbles is feeling better. QOL is what is important now.

Lasix is hard on the kidneys, mostly because it's a diuretic, and kidneys like more, not less water. Neko took benazapril, not enalapril as her ACE inhibitor. It had no impact on her BG. Neither did Plavix.

And yes to those mid cycle tests. ;)

I'm glad Gobbles is feeling better. I hope the lumps heal. I hope you can balance all the meds and keep Gobbles feeling good. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
