I would continue to give the antibiotics until they are gone.

Chase may have developed an aversion to the foods he normally eats. People do this sometimes. When you get sick, the last thing you ate gets associated in your mind with being ill. Can you maybe try a new flavor or brand of food, and see if he'll eat that? While it's important that he eat SOMETHING, and treats it will be be if that's all he'll eat, you obviously don't want to keep giving those to him. Have you tried plain boiled or roasted chicken meat? I used to boil a boneless thigh for Harvey when he wasn't eating well. He loved to drink the broth and would eat the chicken, too. It's easy on an upset tummy.
I didn't try boiled chicken. When he was at his sickest, just before he started on insulin, I did that. He would lick at it, but he is very funny about textures. LOL

They gave me Cyproheptadine.
I have that (now) too but haven't given it yet. I gave Gizmo Mirtz the last time.

Gerber turkey/chicken
I didn't know either but Gerber has corn starch.

Actually, it was after I gave him some of his old treats (not good for him but I was trying anything).
Eating trumps everything - :)

Chase is doing very well this morning
YAY!!

Like Tricia mentioned, he could have a bit of an aversion for now - but it may pass once he's feeling better. Or, maybe he's craving his version of comfort food, just like we do when we don't feel 100%. Obviously it's not ideal in the long run, but the fact that he's enthusiastic about eating something - anything - is big!!

With Trixie, I did find that assist-feeding did almost act like an appetite stimulant. Sometimes they get caught in a vicious cycle...they don't feel well, so they don't eat; then they don't feel well from not eating, so they don't want to eat because they don't feel well from not eating. With Trixie, assist-feeding helped break that cycle, and a lot of times it would get her eating on her own again. So, always hold that in your back pocket, too.

I'm glad you got the gelcaps...they make such a huge difference in pilling.

I would continue with the antibiotics without a doubt, and I would continue with anti-nausea meds for at least several days past signs of him feeling better. And, if he shows any signs of his appy backsliding after discontinuing the anti-nausea meds, I would restart them right away. And, of course, rely on your vet for guidance...call persistently if you have to! You were just there a few days ago, so having questions is natural and the shouldn't be surprised if you need more information.

Prayer continue from us.
Yes.... I think he did have some kind of aversion. It was the old treats that seemed to "get him interested". LOL. A comfort food makes a lot of sense. These gel caps totally saved the day. Phew. :cat: I've never had a vet NOT return my call, so I wasn't happy about that. But when I actually went to the office a different vet came out into the waiting room, sat down and talked with me, and then came back with the appy stimulant. And she just gave it to me.... didn't charge me anything. I think I'll request her in the future. The other vet seemed great, until AFTER we checked out. Who knows, though... maybe she was busy saving lives all day. And that definitely takes precedence over what was going on with us. :) The initial vet didn't give me much Cerenia, but they would have sold me more yesterday... only they were out of it. ONLY in Sierra Vista. :( I don't know how much they cost, but from what everyone says, they are like gold. :) I will definitely give it to Chase in the future if his appetite changes.

I'm sorry you're going through so much, Sandi. Feel free to vent here anytime. Looking after an FD kitty is very stressful, especially when they're not feeling well. It can be the proverbial "straw" and push you beyond your limit. Would your kids be willing to help out with chores, etc. while they're visiting?
Thanks, Kris. You are SO right about the straw. Unfortunately, my kids aren't like that.

Sandi, I'm so very sorry things are so discouraging right now. Feeling alone in anything is so awful. And then to have chronic pain and exhaustion on top of that...My heart goes out to you.

The lady at work that is being so mean is probably that way with everyone which doesn't help you at all, but sometimes if we know it's not personal, it helps a little.

Are you able to talk to your kids about how you're feeling? I hope you are able to really talk to them and if not, then someone close by. And I'll bet your kids won't mind at all if you aren't able to clean.

I'll be praying for you. It seems like we can go along okay, handling big things that come up, and then our cat won't eat, and it's just too much so I get it. Hugs to you and many prayers!
Thank you for the prayers, Glennie. Prayer definitely changes things. :) I know I'm not really alone.... not with being able to come here and talk to wonderful, loving people.... but sometimes having a real person to get a hug from makes a big difference. LOL.

Yep, a hug from a real flesh and blood person is very much needed. Sounds like Chase is doing much better. So thankful for you. Continued thoughts and prayers. Blessings to you! :bighug:

Hi @LizzieInTexas ! They gave me Cyproheptadine. I had tried everything to get him to eat (except for putting it on a plate instead of a bowl). I will keep that in mind for the next time this may happen. I gave some baby food, but it was Gerber turkey/chicken. I didn't know I was supposed to only use Beachnut Classic. Actually, it was after I gave him some of his old treats (not good for him but I was trying anything). :cat: Chase is doing very well this morning.
Actually...I did tell you to only get Beechnut turkey/turkey broth or chicken/chicken broth :):)

Ummmm.... ok. Well I didn't remember you saying that. I got a TON of information at once, while trying to take care of Chase and keeping up with work and being sick, myself. I plead insanity.

I'm glad you got Cypro instead of Mirtz. Most vet prefer Mirtz, but I didn't like the side effects. Plus, you can give Cypro twice a day and Mirtz is once every three days. I don't know what dose the vet said to give, but you might experiment with giving a smaller dose to see if it's effective - I think my vet said 1/4-1/2 tablet and I found that, after the first time, 1/4 was enough.

Sending appy vines to keep him eating. I'm so glad you're feeling better about things, Sandi. That's what we're here for - to support each other!
