Yesterday's Green Morning

All is well is Zenerland this morning. Flat yellow continues from last night and if this is the bounce from the green AM cycle yesterday, that would be just fine! Sunny yellow beat stinky pinky! :-D

We've added in 1/8t of baby food squash twice a day to Zener's food to see if we can bulk up his poo a little and spread out our vetty visits for anal gland expression. Lately, we've needed to have the procedure about every month. Zener thinks the baby food squash is a-okay. Although jars are small, we were wondering just how long it can stay refrigerated, or do we need to freeze some of this and thaw as needed? Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions are welcome!

MamaLizBean got up early to run a 5k, the last race of our local summer running series. The kitties were supportive and twitched a whisker for luck as she left for the run.

Re: 8/10 Zener AMPS 271;+3.5 268 squash?

I never thought about freezing the squash. I just use it for about 3 days and then it gets tossed. I think only one time maybe and it must have been one of the smaller jars, did we finish one. When I give it to J.D., I take a tablespoon of it and microwave it for 10 seconds and then mix it in with his regular food. He likes that squash sauce ;-)

Hi Anne. Sorry, can't offer any advice on the squash but sending Zener lots of good poo vines. The flat yellow surf might be the precursor to a surfing cycle in the Lagoon.

Hope Liz had a great run. Have a great day Anne.

Not bad for a bounce, but come on down the party is starting early in the Green Lagoon!

Good luck at the race, Liz! Ice cube trays are great for freezing the squash.

Re: 8/10 Zener AMPS 271;+3.5 268 squash?

Hello!
I come by to thank Chief Inspector Crapdash and Detective Poo for visiting Lucy last night. :-D

I'm glad Zener is OK with baby food squash. :-D
I thought 1/8 t of baby food seemed really small ! :o I hope it will work!
I give Ginger about half an ice cube of pure pumpkin when I feel she's not pooping enough.
(I freeze pumpkin in ice cube tray, and defrost as needed, but pumpkin cans are larger than baby food jars... )

I am wondering what med you give Zener for his IBD.
Lucy also has IBD and CKD......

Hope Liz had a good race!

Re: 8/10 Zener AMPS 271;+3.5 268 squash?

Hopefully Zener slides down soon. I don't know about the baby food. The few times I've given it, it only last a couple of days. I hope Liz had a good race.

Re: 8/10 Zener AMPS 271;+3.5 268 squash?

Thanks for the kitty chart mol glad mine don't use nails to communicate what they want. Zener come down now you can't have goodies from up there...

Re: 8/10 Zener AMPS 271;+3.5 268 squash?

Nice and flat...but one of these days, it's gonna mean action  !

i was going to suggest what Mariko mentioned. Freezing the squash is a great idea; otherwise you'd end up wasting a fair amount.

I hope Liz had a great race. Have a wonderful evening, guys!!

Re: 8/10 Zener PMPS 268 squash?

Apparently, I'm just a bad mamabean because we use the whole jar and I've never thought about freezing. I use 1 heaping teaspoon a night and it usually takes us about a week to finish the jar. She never objects to eating her dinners, so I assume the squash hasn't gone bad...and it smells the same and doesn't show signs of ickiness. (<-technical term!) I guess I'll start paying better attention to the quality of the squash. :-|

Hope the race went well. I imagine you had a wonderful run and enjoyed every last step! :-D Happy Caturday!!

Re: 8/10 Zener PMPS 268;+3 313 squash?

I go through Ripley's bf squash within a 3-5 days (she gets about 1T each morning), and I use this ice cube tray to freeze her canned pumpkin (for her evening meal). I just put a frozen 'cube' in a container in the fridge the night before I use it, and it's defrosted by the time I need it the next evening. I imagine you could do the same with bf squash...

I hope you're all having a good night!

Re: 8/10 Zener PMPS 268;+3 313 squash?

Thanks Dyana, John, Ann & Tess, mariko, carla, Linda, Amy & TrixieCat, Deborah & Shasta, & Josie & Ripley for posting squash ideas in Zener's condo today. Thanks Josie for the link to the ice cube tray!

We are glad he is eating the squash in his food without any problems, and it does look like his poo is bulking up a bit. We wanted to start with a small bit first to see if he would eat the stuff and how it might affect his numbers. We're up to 1/4t now, so looks like many of you give a lot more. We'll keep moving in that direction.

We give Zener 1mg Ondansetron and 0.5mg Zantac twice a day before his AMPS and PMPS meals. The ondansetron is to help with nausea, as we often need to give him 0.25mg to 0.5mg Cyproheptadine for appy stimulation. The Zantac is similar to pepcid for stomach acid, but also helps a bit with GI motility. He gets 1mg Cerenia (tablet form) three times per week (although mostly used for vomiting, recent research shows it is effective as an anti-inflammatory for IBD). We aren't giving him anything specifically yet for his CKD, though the appy stimulant could be helping with poor appy from CKD. We also give 100mL lactated ringers solution fluids on occasion, if he is dehydrated. I'll post to your condo as well, just in case you don't get back by tonight.

Liz completed the 5K successfully, it was a gorgeous day. She's already talking about signing up for the summer running series next year.

Looks like the night duty bean has an easy night. So, a little earlier to bed is planned. I-)

Re: 8/10 Zener PMPS 268;+3 313 squash?

Zener - no reverse slide please. Time to turn it around.

Good to hear the squash is starting to do it's intended duty. And that he eats it! Hope the rest of your evening is restful.

Re: 8/10 Zener PMPS 268;+3 313 squash?

What happened to your dip in the lagoon Z-man? Stinky pinky no looky looky so mahvelous on you! Turn that bus around, big guy!

If I can only get the larger jars of baby food squash, I split it and freeze half. It takes me about a week to go through 1/2 of a large jar and he seems to be fine when it has been frozen and thawed.
