For those who may wonder what Harley did last night - well, he kept me up most of the night with 30's bg. ss will be updated soon. at +3/205. Shot a fatish 3.5. May try a true 3.5 tonight depending on what he does today.

Ended up falling asleep when I should have been working - boss is not going to like this but she is understanding.

Re: 8/10 Harley AMSP 296

hi guys .. harley, what are you doing down in the 30's? You are silly .. you don't need to be that low and your momma certainly doesn't want you that low .. that is great that your boss is so understanding .. have a great day guys!

Re: 8/10 Harley AMSP 296

I was wondering how the night went for you two...
I can't see his ss from tbp (dagnabit!)I'll have a look at lunchtime. I think, with him sliding down the dosing scale pretty fast (did you ever think youd see those words in his condo), sneaking the dose down may be the best strategy. He will most likley bounce,(I kinda hope he does so you can catch a few uninterrupted ZZZZZs) but who knows! Glad your boss understands, but I'm sure you don't want to push it.

Another decrease for Harley!

I never thought he would be sliding downward - NEVER thought he would be in the 3u area. I am now thinking that a true 3.5 might be the ticket tonight. Even with food (snack 2 Tb FF) he is sliding downward. I will be gone for about 2 hours in afternoon but will test before I leave.

Jeepers! Harley is on a roll!

I'm hoping your timed feeder is set to feed regular mini meals somewhere along the cycle here...
(Also wondering how/what you fed last night)

Easy now Harley!!!! Do your mom a favor and surf blue, would ya?

ETA-
I never thought he would be sliding downward - NEVER thought he would be in the 3u area.
I remember when BK got down into the 3.5-ish or so period, I would occasionally get teased from folks on the board at that time, that BK was becoming a "microdose" kitty. . .

Re: 8/10 Harley AMPS 296, +11 533

This is where I become frustrated...+11/533 ??? this is not good for Harley. If this stays...I will be using a touch of R tonight to get him down.

Pattie

Re: 8/10 Harley AMPS 296, +11 533

Where did that come from???? Did you double check?

Any dry or karo on board today???

ETA - if he is still this high a DROP of R would be appropriate.

Re: 8/10 Harley AMPS 296, +11 533

Yes, doubled checked with the old meter - that one was 549. No dry, no HC...just a couple snacks of FF/LC. When he was at 110, I did leave for about an hour but that was all.

Have no idea where that came from...

Re: 8/10 Harley PMPS Hi/555

I did a 911 to get some quick answers. His new meter says Hi - the old meter says 555. I would like to stick with the skinny 3.75 but then give a skinny 0.25 R to get him down.

Suggestions?

Re: 8/10 Harley PMPS Hi/555 - dose tonight

Took off the 911 - talked with Sandy and this is the plan. 3.5u lantus and drop of R. I think it will be 0.1u R. I will test often to see what he does.

Re: 8/10 Harley PMPS Hi/555 - my thoughts

After Harley's PMPS I thought about today. His eating pattern has not changed. He did get some karo last night to stop the hypo. Has not had any R in several days.

One change that I have not even considered, is that the last 2 days I have had to shoot with short needles. Walmart or Target did not have any but they will be in tomorrow. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Re: 8/10 Harley PMPS Hi/555 - dose tonight

Glad I caught ya! When I looked at the ss I thought you shot 3.75skinny and no R. . .
(I hope you made it a fat 3.5u)
Yes, please keep an eye on him. On his last trip to outer Mongolia that DOR brought him back to pink pretty quick!

According to the ss, he last had R on 07/29, unless I'm not seeing it.
Pattie at this stage it's critical that somewhere on the ss you note all R doses given, along with regular meal amounts/type (LC/MC/HC) and +hours eaten, as well as the amounts/type/+ hours of food and or karo given to guide the numbers.

I'm happy to help but I have to know what all the moving pieces are and trust that you have given the full picture.

What you want here is to keep the Lantus doses, as well as his feeding, steady and consistent as possible, and not muddy the waters with excess R. If R is in the picture, even 3 cycles back, I would not fully trust a drop into the 40s as deserving a Lantus decrease. Because at this point, if you want them to stick, decreases should be earned based on Harleys response to Lantus alone.

Well, Harleys liver got really PO'd!
Don't let that ugly number get you down. Look at the slightly bigger picture. Harley just had 40+ hours of green/blue/yellow. In looking at the last 2 weeks, that's a record. That, combined with the drop to the 30s last night makes sense that his liver freaked out. His liver does need some serious training, however you have to be vigilant about keeping him from going too low. Even if it means aborting a fast dropping cycle sometimes to let you sleep,

Based on the info provided on your ss, I recommend that you wait out any red or pink bounces at this stage. Use the recovery time to catch up on your rest. I think if you keep working it the recovery time will become shorter and shorter and the bounces less severe..

Re: 8/10 Harley PMPS Hi/555, +1/511

The 3.75 skinny is what I drew up but thought that since I was going to give the R, I would go to the 3.5 - then I saw your post and knew it was the right way to go..

He only got the 3.5u lantus and 0.1u R. The last time was on the 29th...nothing since then.

Re: 8/10 Harley PMPS Hi/555, +1/511

Sandy..here are some answers to your post.

Today I bought a digital scale and will begin to weigh out his meals and snacks. That will give me a better idea of what is going on.

In the past, I have not been real good with keeping track of the amount of food, snacks, karo given. It has been an estimate of what I see. Last night, I measured out the food (tbsp) and karo (tsp) so that I would know from now on what the reaction is. I know you have said this stage of the game is critical and I want to know everything that I do.
As I said I have a scale and auto feeder. This should help me regulate the amount and times better. I am looking at this for a pattern:
AM breakfast

+2, +4, +6, +8 either .5oz of FF or raw (or cooked chicken)
PM dinner
+2, +4, +6, +8 either .5oz of FF or raw (or cooked chicken)

The auto will be used for the snacks and premeasured/weighed. This will start tomorrow.

I am being very honest and diligent with the ss as far as what I am shooting. I know that with Harley, the R goes a long way and I do not want to lose track as to when things are given.

I have even gotten a magnifying glass to check my doses. If I see any bubbles, I draw up a bit more insulin and get the bubbles out of there. 7/29 was the last time I used R. Even with the high 300’s I wanted to give R but wanted to see what he could do on his own – so no R given.

Pattie

Again, Harley might be taking the express elevator down. I think that if he hits 150ish, I will give some MC food (1 Tb HC & 1 Tb LC). I don't have any cans that are MC.

Oh good...when you posted the below-

A big red flag went up in my head! In my mind "several days" doesn't go back to 07/29. Thanks for clearing that up. Whew!

Sounds like a nice consistent feeding plan you have there. I think it will make things better for Harley and for you as well.

So far, so good...It's hard for me to imagine he is on the express...but it is Harley and he did have a DOR...

Good job Pattie. This territory is way different from IAA land, where beans spend their time relentlessly beating down unyielding high BGs with massive amounts of both slow and fast acting insulin. This is so much more nuanced. You two have made a lot of progress.

I hope you can get some rest tonight!
