:YMSIGH: We were so excited yesterday because his numbers started to come down.
amps 250 +6 315 pmps 308 and then this morning back in the red 400.
sad over here. oh well . we keep on going

You're seeing what your first bounce looks like. It'll take him about 72 hours to clear. The scientific explanation is that his liver misread the lower than normal numbers as the onset of a hypo and sent out stored sugar and counterregulatory hormones.

The way I explain it is: You're driving along on the highway at 75 mph. At first that feels really fast but as the trip stretches on pretty soon that speed doesn't feel all that fast even through your brain knows its still fast the rest of your body has adapted to that speed. Well Tibbs body has adapted to those 400s because he was diabetic long before you knew was even sick, cats are stoic like that. So his liver now thinks 400s are right where he should be.

Okay back to the road trip, you're still cruising right along at 75mph but here comes a town and you need to slow down to 55 mph, brain knows its still fast but to the rest of your body it feels like you're crawling along, it wants you to speed back up to 75 mph, and you have to really watch it so you don't speed.

Well Tibbs' liver thinks the same thing that he's too low so it panicks and steps on the accelerator. But just like if you continue driving at 55 it eventually feels normal again the longer and the more time he spends down in the lower numbers the more normal they start feeling again and the quicker he'll clear them and the less he'll bounce.

Nadine - don't get discouraged! You're in good hands here at FDMB.

As the wise ladies here told me, it's the Sugar Dance. It can be soooo frustrating on a daily basis, but keep up the good work and tibbs will respond. He will. :YMHUG: One day, you'll be able to look back over his spreadsheet and see just how far he has come. In the meantime, look for other positive signs as well ... is he more active, is he playing more, drinking less, peeing less, etc.

And, you're exactly right ... Mel's explanations ARE great. Don't know what I would have done without her and the rest of the Relaxed Lantus group.

thanks Geneva,
He came down to 308 again last night and he is totally active, playing. he is just like his old self so i know
he is better. I have been sticking with the 1 unit because i changed his food to high protein , low carbs
and he has been dropping steady every day ( until the bounce) but overall he is trending down so we are
hanging in there.
Thanks again
