I put more 'yuk' anti lick gel on his foot last night. I woke up and checked on him every 30 mins last night except for the 2 hours before we woke up this morning... My phone died so the alarms didnt go off until Danes alarm went off for him to wake up for work... And when I woke up Jupiter was licking the bandage! It doesnt seem like he chewed on it much or anything like that... just a few licks and maybe a single bite mark... so not horrible.

Gave Jupiter some FF salmon & shrimp pate with some FF appetizer on top and he ate a decent bit. Going to try offering him every hour today. Really want him to eat more.

The yuk gel we have is really working as long as we reapply every few hours but.... its such a little tube and we are almost all out and just cant afford to buy more right now - so I am watching him like a hawk all day and not letting him out of my sight so we dont use the yuk gel during the day, so we can save a little bit for at night tonight.

We have an appointment scheduled with the oncologist in Pittsburgh ( http://www.pvs-ec.com/oncology ) at 9:45 am on Monday August 12th. It is a 2 hour drive for us (probably about 2 hours and 15 minutes since the traffic will be bad in the morning) so I am worried about how Jupiter will do in the long car ride. But, this is something I am going to try to worry about more later as the date comes closer, and for now I am going to try to focus on Jupiters appetite and him keeping the bandage on (and not chewing at it! so it will heal).

I want to say thank you to all of you. I appreciate your support, advice, suggestions, vines, prayers, etc (too much to name all of the things you guys have done for us). This week has been so trying and so overwhelming and I just dont know how we could have gotten by the past few weeks without this board. Jupiter and I are so truly blessed to have the support and love that we have here. I will never be able to thank you all enough.

A thank you to Rhiannon, who helped us to be able to get some more FF appetizers and some baby food for Jupiter. We appreciate it so much.

Sending Carl lots of prayers for comfort and peace. Fly free Mullet.

ETA: I am going to try to take a little nap with Jupiter. Ive missed visiting you all and sorry I havent stopped by your condos. In a few hours I am going to do my best to visit some condos today and catch up.

That's great Jupiter made it through the night without getting the bandage off. Sending prayers to you and Jupiter.

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52

So happy Jupe left his boo boo alone for the day, yes Jamie i think you should talk to Jupe and tell him Mommy needs her rest MOL. Nice low number though, sending Blessings to you all

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52

Okay so the vet wanted us to try to have Jupe keep the bandage on for atleast 3 days. That was tuesday afternoon that he got the bandage.

Since it smells like urine, I am having such a hard time keeping him from biting it. I can only stop him if we put yuk gel on it every 4 hours. problem is we are almost out of yuk gel (and I cant afford to buy more atleast for a few more days). I have a very bad migraine today and I am going to need to sleep.

I am really considering changing his bandage tonight because I think he will be tempted to bite it a lot less if it doesnt smell like urine.

Any opinions about this? If I do change the bandage should I just take the outer layers of vet wrap off and leave the gauze and not peel that part up at all and just wrap new vet wrap around the outside? Or should I just redo all of the bandage?

Tomorrow would be day 3 but I dont think we can wait that long. The tape is already peeling up and if I sleep for a few hours chances are, he will get it off. I think if I put on a new bandage and put on some yuk gel right before I go to sleep, I should be able to sleep for a few hours without having to worry about him biting, chewing, or licking the bandage.

any and all opinions would be so greatly appreciated

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52 - need opinions about changing banda

Jamie I think i would just take the outer layer off just be careful so it does't pull, but maybe he will stop biting it, kitties hate stink. good luck hun

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52 - need opinions about changing banda

I would change it. given it smells like urine, he is probably trying to clean it and get the smell off him.

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52 - need opinions about changing banda

yeah even though the vet wanted to keep it on a little longer i am thinking it might be better to change it rather then have him bite and chew on it.

everytime he chews on the bandage he makes it bleed a lot - so I think its delaying the healing. thats why im thinking changing it would be a better option..

just wanted to get a few opinions on wether to only take off and replace the vet wrap or remove all gauze too

Maybe start to peel off the layers and decide how far you want to go.

what MJ said, see how far you need to take it - maybe the urine didn't penetrate all the way through.

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52 - need opinions about changing banda

I think I would prefer not to disturb the inside layers of bandage if you can avoid it.

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52 - need opinions about changing banda

Hi Jamie,
I am sorry you are having such a hard time with the bandage.
I hope he will heal soon, and bandage can go.
I don't have any advice, but wanting to send tons of healing vines to both you and Jupiter.

Re: 8/1 Jupiter AMBG/52 - need opinions about changing banda

yes i would be worried about taking the last layer or gauze off don't want to make it bleed again, good luck hope he lets you fix it
