I can't wait to get rid of the pinks and yellows!

Had a 35 minute conversation with our vet. She is our regular vet. We discussed the IM vets notes, my current observations, what is happening now and what our plan is.

So all meds (metro, pred, cypro, cerenia) will be kept at current dosages for now.
Supplements (s boulardii, folate, B12 injections) will be kept.

Stopping the methyl b12 and SEB for now. The concern was that for cats the B12 is not absorbed well by ingestion and Jones' is in the tank right now (as per the consistent weight loss) and the folate will do a better job of RBC production. For the SEB - she was concerned that it could be interfering with the other meds. Which it could be, I do give it about 3 hours after shot time. She wanted to do more research as I indicated it does help when his tummy hurts, which is mostly at night. We will revisit in 2 weeks.

And from tonight forward all he gets is the Rawz turkey that I have been moving him over to. Just turkey - no other protein source. It is what he was on before when he was doing so well and gained his weight back. The theory being that chicken is the number one food allergy in cats. So stop all food that has chicken in it...which there goes the YA treats. I am stopping at the store tonight to get some turkey breast to cut of up and cook for him. We may try rabbit in the future that is the one I haven't tried yet. All the others seemed to cause diarrhea or he wouldn't eat it. But as he was getting other foods it is hard to say exactly if it was the new proteins or "old" proteins that don't agree.

We discussed
  • the tylosin vs. metro - and she agrees the dose is high but is hoping if we can get this flare under control then we can drop back the dose. If not, then we will discuss changing him over.
  • Leukeran - if we have no improvement in two weeks - then we will start this at a 2mg once a week dose (she wasn't a fan of the higher dose pulse dose but she is also going to looking into it).
  • I could do an U/S or can get a biopsy. Not sure if it worth the stress to Jones...I am to think about this for the next 2 weeks.

So my focus for the next 2 weeks - only turkey for Jones - nothing else and try to get these BG numbers under control. And pray for healing white light to help Jones heal up and gain some weight back - at least stop losing it.

Good notes: no gooey poo for the last day, Jones continues to eat well (hope that continues with this diet switch) and he was all cuddly last night.

I feel like I have a plan and a partner to help me. Which is great.

I got lost in web surfing the other day, looking at food energetics for cats (TCM view on ying/yang of proteins). Interestingly enough, a lot of people are feeding both turkey and rabbit as the only two that work. I hope Jones eat the Rawz for you and can eventually handle rabbit too.

I hope the new plan works for you. An alternative to biopsy is an endoscopy, which is less invasive, but you need the U/S first to see if there is inflammation in an area the scope can reach.

That is interesting on the turkey and rabbit. She wanted to add another protein and not to be exclusive turkey as it is still a fowl protein.

I hope it is a good plan.
